Super Mario World Hacks - The Muncher Run 2 Show random
File Name: The Muncher Run 2
Added:
Authors: Bad luck man, Ersanio
Demo: No
Featured: No
Length: 5 exit(s)
Type: Kaizo: Light
Description: Mario has realized he can actually swim, and thus he facepalmed. The island started to collapse since it's leader is gone now, and Mario has to escape immediately. He manages to escape from the island, and jumps into the ocean. What adventures awaits him this time?

This hack features 5 levels. The difficulty is from Difficult to Insane. Have fun playing it.

This hack is a bit different from my C3 Spring 2009 entry. This one has a few bug fixes and the last touches, with the intention of "perfecting" it. Hopefully I have reached my goal.

P.S. In THAT level, I have added a real exit, so you don't end up killing yourself anyway. You will have to search a little bit, though.

Hack made by Ersanio (ID 3) and Bad Luck Man (ID 81)

I cannot understand that a hack like this, which appears to be only playable (without crashes) on outdated, non-accurate software emulators or specific emulator settings (neither of which are mentioned in the description or in any readme file), has been accepted on the site for over 4.5 years simply because it was not fully broken 11 years ago on whatever emulation software the creators used back then.
Is a random 2020 user of this site assumed to know that they're supposed to use ZSnes or whatever for this hack to be able to play it at all? Otherwise what's the point of hosting a hack like this if people cannot just download it, patch the rom, and then just play it the way we can play any other hack from the site?

It's up to you to do research and ask why something is breaking because there's also a possibility that you have a bad base rom and patching hacks to it break hacks. This is not one of those cases but anything with the "fixme" tag has a high chance of breaking on accurate emulators/consoles.
Also this hack was accepted under old hack rules and guidelines things change over time it's how things work.

There are random crashes in various sections, and the music/sfx are bugged out throughout the entire thing.
Also, seeing a 3.4 out of 5 rating (8 votes) for this hack makes me feel that the entire rating system on SMWCentral is worthless.

You realize it has a note in the description which states it breaks in Snes9X which is a good indication it breaks on accurate emulators including consoles. Also the newest Snes9X and bsnes have added options to make legacy hacks work that have broken music so YES it is can be finished on emulator but NO it probably will not work on console unless the intro thing gets fixed.
You really should do a bit more research before just jumping in and saying it's fully broken.

I've rated this 'Kaizo: Light' due to some really strict star placements and a couple of nasty tricks in the last legitimate level. In general, you'll probably save yourself a lot of hassle if you just play with savestates but be my guest if you actually want to try without them.

This hack was actually pretty fun. It manages to be fairly engaging despite mostly consisting of star runs, and the hack as a whole is pretty good looking. This hack has some hilariously awful 'music' in certain points and the very idea of the hack just makes me feel like it was made as a joke. Far from a bad thing though, as it actually works out well.

Also, after the noise effect as the HDMA bar comes down when you boot it up, all sound goes to crackles and squeaks, so you'll need to use ZSNES.

4/5!
