Pretty appealing pics there. Too bad the design isn't as good.
Indeed, the design isn't too good, but it's decent. The author used a standard-ish design, action oriented, without fancy shenanigans. The last level of the demo is the worst of the hack, and not because it's a water level, but because there's nothing going on in there except a few enemies and spikes. Not much more to say I guess.
Aesthetic-wise, well, it's great. I loved this kind of style and the graphics used, which really make for a good looking hack without it being clashy in terms of style. Some errors in the tiles assembling are easily spottable though, like in the first pic, the grass is creating cutoff in the linear ledge. I'm still positive on this factor though, probably one of the best hacks in terms of exgfx I've seen.
- Music breaks on accurate emulators (sfx that use noise kill it instantly).
- "#5 Roy's castle" makes you die immediately. Prolly an unfinished level, but losing a life like this is kind of unfair.
- You can't go back on the first submap's levels after clearing "Eggplant Mansion" due to OW tiles.
- The level "VANILLA SECRET 2" freezes the hack even on a ZSNES.
Overall, a good hack aesthetically, but not as good in design. 3/5.
