Bowser has kidnapped Peach and brought her to a mysterious forest near his castle. The only way to access his fortress is to hit the four switches scattered throughout the forest- Each of which is guarded by one of Bowser's most trusted minions: Fast Mole the Mega Mole, Scurvy Spooks the Big Boo, Puff Norris the Porcu Puffer, and Kamaar the Magikoopa.
I finally bothered to reupload this. This is a mini-hack, meaning it's only five levels long. You can beat any of the four levels in any order you choose to get to the fifth.
fixme: hack is unbeatable in accurate emulators due to broken music
A hack with some really thoughtful and occasionally tricky concepts but a few annoying rooms, particularly in Puff Norris's level. Some of these concepts could've done better in smaller rooms to eliminate the tedium. The item quests vary from chains of finding things to logic puzzles like counting berries and finding the space between the two hinted at in order to move forward. The Fast Mole races are cool, and Porcu Puffer is rarely used as a boss.
Overall, the hack was very memorable despite its flaws, and the final level impressed me with how it altered between regular stages and a revisit of each boss. The palette in the rooms before and after Bowser in the castle level was rather tacky though and the Scurvy Spooks and Kamaar sprites are rather crudely drawn.
The hack breaks in Puff Norris's level in accurate emulators and music will restart every time you enter a new area because this was made with an early public release of the Java AddMusic and did not use the hex edit to get around that.
