Super Mario World Hacks - Mario - The Currently Unnamed Hack
File Name: Mario - The Currently Unnamed Hack
Added:
Authors: Halzyn
Demo: Yes
Featured: No
Length: 6 exit(s)
Type: Standard: Hard
Description: A side project I've been working on, and now is my main project since I cancelled Mario & Luigi - The Living.

Plot: I don't have any yet, which explains the title.

This is a vanilla hack, which means I only used Super Mario World graphics. The hack's a demo, so I'm not done with it yet.

Notes:
-The main OW is beta, so don't rate/comment on it. Rate/comment on the submap instead.

-In 'Road to Cement Town', there's a message box, which has the text '(- Goomba Goomba Hills' in it. It should be Chesnut Hills; I forgot to change it.

-Title Screen is more or less a joke, it has nothing to do with the hack, I thought it was pretty fun.

-Credits to Mattrizzle for the SMAS Music patch.

I guess that's it. Have fun!

Difficulty: Medium

fixme: minor crackling upon entering levels. while there are no crashes involved, it could possibly be fixed with a later version of the smas music patch

This hack isn't exactly the most fair instance of a "hard" hack I've seen. Most of the trouble I had getting through it was because of the disproportionate saturation of enemies compared to the amount of midway points and powerups.

Not only that, but in 'Cement Town' it's nearly impossible to tell what's a wall and what's not, since the only difference between pass-through blocks and solid blocks is a difference in Y-flipping. While with the backwards question blocks it's a bit more obvious because they're animated, the entire level is made out of cement blocks.

Speaking of the backwards question blocks, it's a rather dumb gimmick. If you've built up the reflex where if it looks like a question block you hit it, then it will punish you for that for no apparent reason.

2/5.
