Del Lago, no Resident Evil 4 reference, Del Lago means "From the Lake"
I've been working on this hack for some time now, I've been looking at pointers given by many users/mods/admins here on smwcentral and I've improved a lot. This hack is about half complete, 41 levels/nearly 4 worlds.
I have used many ExGFX files/Custom Sprites/Custom Blocks/patches etc...
I added a couple of my own rips in also. The music is the SMB1 and SMB3 music patches. I have included a txt doc containing the users that submitted content that I used.
The Story is the same basically, just an altered intro, I plan on adding more to it once I am near completing.
If this does or does not get accepted, I'd like to know any glitches/bugs.
-Slashman fixme: music breaks on accurate emulators.
Despite the horrendous graphics, this hack wasn't pretty bad.
Design-wise, it's good, more or less. The author managed to keep the fun factor high enough, with different gimmicks for almost each level. Sometimes it ends up being kinda linear, other times was instead irritating (read: homing bullet bill), but overall, I had fun playing this hack. The difficulty curve is very weird, sometimes there are very hard levels, while some others are pretty easy levels. There are also some flaws, like some puzzle levels that force you to die if there isn't a reset pipe/door around. As overall, not bad, but there is lots of room for improvement here.
Aesthetics... aw geez, lol. I noticed how this hack resembles Brutal Mario in terms of GFX matching; the first water level is an example, as well as the YI ones, and much much more. Although it's awfully bad. Sometimes you see very bad paletting and eye-searing colors. It feels like the author in some levels just took care of the BG, and since many times the BG palette messes up with the FG, we can admire how the latter is screwed up. Other bright examples of terrible aesthetics are the switch palaces levels, where I went forward in a very confused way due to the too bright and confusing BG + FG. Good thing these weren't hard atleast. Last but not least, clashes. Clashes everywhere: just think that one of the levels has 8-bit SMW GFX and Sonic The Hedgehog GFX in the same level. I won't say more. Awful.
- Music breaks on accurate emulators;
- If you grab a feather offscreen, it will freeze the game permanently;
- Major slowdown occuring in a few levels;
- Other misc errors regarding the actlike of certain tiles in a few levels, like upside down slopes acting as solid blocks or triangle blocks that doesn't have the 1EB tile underneath them.
This hack has potential, but it still has a long road to do before it gets into the acceptable field.
