Fixed some things from the previous demo. Since my comp got rolled back progress on this hack has been slow. this hack will most likely be 2 worlds with 1 bonus world with at most 4 levels i guess. BIG thanks to goldenyoshiegg for having a copy of this game for me to restart my work. Mushroomkingdom is frozen over and its mario's job to find the fire spirit at the star temple from blah blah blah. Design-wise, it's not very good. My main complaint is the fact that many sections are narrow and claustrophobic (like, having 2 16x16 tiles only to jump, or one single 16x16 net tile where you have to hang on, etc). The difficulty curve is weird, I am confused about it; it changes pretty quickly, and these levels are supposed to be levels of a first world. It could've been better overall, but hey, some of the sections can be fun too. I particularly loved the "End of Demo" level...
Aesthetic-wise, it's very messy. Some sets looks very bad, pillow-shaded and too cartoony-ish, while others looked reasonable. Many palettes are also bad, eye-searing (just look the BG in the second pic). Overall, I don't like the aesthetic of this hack much.
Some issues here:
- Hack breaks on accurate emulators.
- Not an error, but... the first level starts from the midway point.
- The "End of Demo"'s secret exit doesn't exists. Probably the secret path was a wip, since it leads you to an endless bonus game...
Overall, not too impressed. Could've been much better. On a side note, the "End of Demo" level music is memorable even if silly ported :')
