Then I got to play the hack.
...
The design is absent. This is probably one of the most linear hacks I've ever played. Every level was a straight line of ground with enemies on it. No gimmicks, no actual obstacles and not fun at all. Not much more to say, I basically summed up how the levels of this hack are.
Aesthetics... Megaman is featured here, but from my point, this felt like a Mario game all along. You get a fire flower, you collect Yoshi Coins, you enter pipes... it wasn't MegaMan-ish at all. The graphics, except from the castle level, aren't MegaMan-ish (a beach tileset and the redrawn SMB3 1-1's tileset have been used). If I'd want to get nipticky, I'd say there is a style clashing too, since MegaMan is in 8-bit style while the rest is redrawn/SMW-ish/cartoonish. A real mess overall.
Some issues:
- Music breaks on accurate emulators.
- If you enter the "end of demo" level, you can't exit it unless you die.
Overall, a very bad hack. The only cured factor is probably the story.
