Hope Land's Mystery - Broozer's SMW Hack




This is my newest project, also, the best one that I made.

Plot:

Bowser has again captured princess Toadstool but this time he fled to his misterious hideot in Mt. Collapse, a very haunted place in a misterious land that is between Beanbean Kingdom and Mushroom Kingdom. The quest was easy until he discovered a mad pirate boo called HectorPlasm that plans to kidnap the Hope Star, the sacred star of the Hope Land. Without the hope star, all the kingdoms will be doomed.

Mario begins his adventure in Toadstool Coast, the coast of the Mushroom Kingdom. During his adventures, there will be a lot of mystery. Mario will also cross Beanbean Kingdom to arrive in Hope Land.

The main overworld, should Bowser's Hideot stay visible or invisible?



This is a pic of the first level of the game, it's called "The Welcome Hills". The rex is from SMW Redrawn, I really enjoyed it so I used it.

... A springboard will appear!



Just the last part of the level where you get a star and... You know the rest!



Here's a pic of the second level, Fuzzy's Toadstools. As the name says, fuzzballs are the main enemies in these areas.



It's a very looonng way to the exit...



But it isn't for the secret exit! :P



Aroma River is the secret level after Fuzzy's Toadstools. If you have a better name, PM me! You have to cross this river to get a springboard...



When you finally get a springboard, you'll have to go to the start of the level to use it!



Them you'll able to go to this wonderfull part of the river!



You may already saw this...



Vuala! When the blue POW is pressed the blocks are activated!

This is a really good hack, looking forward to this. :) I like the ASM and EXGFX and stuff. Maybe show some videos? Then I can rate the level design. Overall looks this pretty good. I hope you find your perfect story soon.

Your hack looks great. I like when people use water shading. It really adds more reality.
This hack looks great. The overworld looks good as far as decorations.
Also I think that revealing where Bowser's world is located, is a spoiler making the player knowing where the final destination is.
The 0xc0000005 error:
That's what my computer had and has on my computer.
I couldn't do anything with my computer, it was done through the task manager. Every now and then those rundll.exe errors occurs, but all of this does not stop me from working on my hack.
I think you should keep his hideout visible... considering it's the overworld map, people won't actually see it too early, anyway. Besides, it would make people more persistent!

That, and even if you removed, it, that huge mountain with the #7 castle and the ladder on it is kind of a dead givaway.

Mountain going over the horizon = wtf.
The overworld looks weird with that waterfall near the bottom. The world 3 forest looks, to my eyes, to be going vertically up.
I have no complaint about the level designs themselves. Most of what I see looks pretty fun and well-thought out, but the palettes for the SMB3 grassy foreground could use a little less intensity, especially when it's against the orange block. Maybe that's just me because my eyes are unusually sensitive, though.

Your backgrounds really fit the Mario theme since they have things you'd commonly see in Mario games, and have a joyful mood to them, which is appropriate for the style you're aiming for. They're not out of place at all, and the palettes are fine. I hope to see more of your own graphic work in this hack rather than ripped graphics in the future.

The overworld looks like a lot of time was put into it, and for the most part, I'm happy with what I see. The only things I'd suggest you change are the cliff to the bottom left of the waterfall and the mountain where castle 2 is - it looks like, judging from where the base of the mountain is in the forest, that there would be much space between that mountain and the one just south of it, and it looks like you have a path to climb up it, which would seem impossible for me if I were a Mario sprite. Lower the base 4 or 5 8x8 tiles, and it should look correct. Now that I think about what Boing said, maybe you should also raise the horizon line one tile so that it doesn't look like Bowser's mountain is hanging off the edge of the ocean, though then you might have to fix the left side of the far-left mountain a bit.

Humm, most of the problems are from the overworld, I'll fix it. Thanks for the suggestions guys. I also changed the name of the thread to "Super Mario Prodigy: Hope Land's Mistery. I also have a plot for it!

Edit: Also, Kyoseron, thanks for the suggestions, but the palette of the SMB3 foreground when changed doesn't fit with the BG. If you'd like, I can change the palette of the orange square...

The quest was easy until he discovered a mad pirate boo called HectorPlasm that plans to kidnap the Hope Star, the sacred star of the Hope Land. Without the hope star, all the kingdoms will be doomed.

Mario begins his adventure in Toadstool Coast, the coast of the Mushroom Kingdom. So in my hack, his adventures will be set in Mushroom Kingdom, Beanbean Kingdom (from MLSS) and in Hope Land.

I already have my beanies graphics and a tileset for Beanbean Kingdom:


Note that it isn't a level, it's only a pic showing some of the graphics from the Beanbean Kingdom, so don't criticism this, the level isn't done yet!

New Background!





It's a wild-west mountain themed background, I will use it in the second world of my hack (a canyon themed world), in the beanbean kingdom levels (as you can see) and in some beach themed levels. In the second world, I won't use the sea under the mountains, I'll make a dry floor for it!

It reminds me the BG of green hill zone from Sonic 1 and the BG from some YIDS levels.
