Super Mario Omega [lots of SS]

Some people may remember when I made a thread about this last summer. I am happy to say that my hack has changed a lot since then and is much better now. If you want to get an idea on how much it has changed you can examine the two screenshots below.



The screenshot on the left is what it looked like last summer and the screenshot on the right is what it looks like now. I think that everyone will agree that the one on the right is much better :) If you want to compare even further you can go Here to see the thread I made during the summer.

Now for the rest of the screenshots.


The first two levels of my hack are the only two that have vertical scrolling turned off (The rest of the levels are not linear at all).


You aren't going to see any places in my hack where the ground is completely flat for a long period of time


The first level of the second world (If anyone has any ideas for a ExGFX BG that would go good with any level that uses an original SMW BG please let me know).


Mario's shirt is yellow when he is Fire Mario. If you don't like it I'll change it ASAP (I only made it yellow to see what others thought about it).

The first level of the ice world. Mario better be careful not to hit his head.


It's your choice whether you want to take the upper or lower path. Fun Fact: The ice (lower left) is slippery and the snow (top right) isn't slippery.


Bullet Bills make their first appearance in the first level of World 4!


The P-Balloon also makes its first appearance in World 4!


The blue blocks move up and down which makes this level a bit more difficult than it would of been.


World 5 is water themed.


Many traps await Mario in the cove


No water world is complete without a sunken ship :P


Mario needs to start bringing a flashlight on his adventures.


World 6 introduces convyer belts.


Mario need to climb high into the sky to reach his destination. But what goes up...


Must come down :P


The water moves up and down which makes patience key to passing this part of the level.


Even though you're past the water world there can still be another water level :P


The final world takes place within firey core of the mountain!


Things are going to get a bit harder from here on

Instead of going from left to right this level goes in the opposite direction.


If Mario was worried about hitting his hear in the ice world he should be even more careful here.

Well that's about it. It's about 85% done and I'm about 3/4 the way of reaching my goal of using every single level in the ROM (0-1FF). Expect a release of the completed hack somewhere between February and March of 2008.

I would like to thank everyone that ripped/drew the graphics that I used and your names will be included in the credits when I release my hack.

I hope that everyone liked the screenshots. Please post any comments, complaints, or criticism that you have.

wow, you have improved, i cant wait to play it. about that yellow shirt, it doesnt bother me, but it will bother someone im sure.
Wow nice it looks so much better. But in the sunken ship level why is there a pipe shooting out fire?

Wow, this looks very nice. I like your idea of using the core of the mountain for the last world, did you get the idea from Super Mario Sunshine with Corona Mountain? I also like the ExGFX you use and non-linearity is always a plus.

My only complaint is the yellow Fire Mario, I think that the cream-orange-style color he normally has looks better.

You need the press the silver P-Switch to turn it into a silver coin so that you can go down the pipe it is blocking. I didn't think it was a big deal that the fire was underwater because Fire Mario proves that in Mario games fire can exist underwater :P.

It's been a very long time since I've played Super Mario Sunshine and actually forgot that the last level was inside the mountain :P. Also I guess I probably will change Fire Mario's palette since the majority people probably prefer it the normal way.
Looks awesome. But, I think you kinda overdid the orange palette in Crimson Core, its looks a little overwhelming. The Icicle Caverns submap palette could use some work also. There are also quite a few out-of-place graphics; the coins, star coins, and pipes stick out as far as graphics go.
Why is there a pyramid in the ice world?

I'm not sure what other coins I would use. Would SMB3 be ok? I actually wanted to replace the star coins with something else although I was also stuck on that too. Maybe ace coins? I had actually thought that the pipes fit pretty well. Does anyone else think that I should change them? I'll also see what I can do about the palettes you mentioned.

Awesome! But I think you should have a specific style of graphics.
There are four kinds of koopa. They are green, red, blue and yellow Koopa. All of you must give credit to me as I released such extremely, unbelievably and incredibly useful information.

I'm trying to stick to using FG ExGFX that don't look to advanced and look fairly simple like the origional SMW's were (which means nothing from the DKC series or icegoom's redrawn hack). I changed the star coin into an ace/advanced coin but I'm still not sure what I want to do with the normal coin.



Also thank you Boing for pointing out the old thread that I made on the old board before the wipe.
