Pokemon X & Y: Generation 6 [SPOILERS]

As long as it's real free movement and not just some horrendous 8-directional movement, I'll be happy.

Hah, don't worry. The 3DS has that little control nub thing, I'm sure they'll use it for free movement.

Honestly I'd be fine with 8 directional. Most likely it'll be a carbon clone of the Colosseum control scheme.

You could move freely in Colosseum though.

I wasn't saying you couldn't. That was more of a passing comment. To phrase it better; It will probably control like Colosseum, however I won't complain if it's 8 directional.

Odd that they say "Pokemon X/Y" instead of "Pokemon X/Y Version".

Yeah, I think the boxart is the best looking of any Pokemon game.

They're probably phasing out the "Version" part because I've heard that Japan doesn't use it. Plus, whenever people talk about Pokemon, they ALWAYS leave out "Version". I always have, everyone I know always has. So, that could have an effect on the lack of "Version" on the box.

Plus X and Y aren't even adjectives.
Blue version -> Works
Gold(en) version -> Works
X version -> Doesn't work too well
Feel free to visit my website/blog - it's updated rarely, but it looks pretty cool!

It has taken me X years to retrieve the Gold Scepter.

Still not an adjective; just a variable for one.

They're not being used as adjectives, they're being used as nouns. "Version" does NOT need to be proceeded by an adjective anyway.

If you had a game split in two, where one was themed on Earth and the other was themed on Sky, you could have them be "Earth Version" and "Sky Version" despite neither being an adjective.

Therefore, "X Version" and "Y Version" are still fine.

They probably just got rid of the "version" to move onward. It does make sense. After all, they aren't using colors anymore, either.

Even though the last 4 games were black and white? Let's not make such a big deal over this. (Like I'm one to talk LOL)

New subject: Fairy types. Are you convinced yet? The evidence is overwhelming, it is inevitable.
I'm seriously just waiting for an official announcement at this point.
It would make a lot of sense, as well as explaining why Sylveon's type is such a closely guarded secret, however I don't believe the new type will be known as Fairy type in the western release. I get the feeling that it's just being referred to as such because it's a literal translation. You know how localisers like to modify some stuff during the localisation process... It'd more likely be named after the hinted Light type (since that would actually kind of make sense given that a fairy is a being of grace and light).

I was refering to X and Y only. They're the first Pokemon games in the main series not to use colors as version identifiers. Nintendo probably just wanted everything to feel fresh and new at this point, so they dropped and changed some things, even when it's only minor ones. If you think back, it was similar with Black and White. For the first time in many years they did some noticable tweaks to the Pokemon formula (like only making new Pokemon available from the beginning). Those tweaks were represented by the name. Instead of, again, using "better" and "more valuable" colors, they just went back to the basics and called the games Black and White. X and Y might be the same deal. They're probably thinking "These Pokemon games are so new and different, we want it represented in the name. So let's fuck that tradition of using colors and just call the games X and Y." And while they were at it they probably just dropped the "version" only to not have it in the name "just for the sake of it".

Or, another theory: Maybe they just dropped the "version" because, after all, this is the first Pokemon game to be released world-wide at the same time. Probably they wanted the names to represent that. Pokemon X and Pokemon Y are pretty much called the same everywere on the globe. The word "version", however, always used to be translated with each localisation of a Pokemon game in the past. For example: Pokemon Blue was called "Blue Version" in America, but it was called "Blaue Edition" in Germany. In fact, this may also be the reason why they used X and Y in the first place. These are just letters, so they're the same in every language and don't even have to be translated.

Gold, Silver, Crystal (This shows that they intended the metals for Gold and Silver, not the colors associated with the metals.), Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum. They've been doing this since gen 2 and only JUST got back to using colors for gen 5.

As for Fairy-type: As nice as it'd be to finally have dragon be nerfed, I'm REALLY hoping it's not true. Mostly out of spite against people who see rumors and somehow instantly believe they're the absolute truth, confirmed just by being said. :c

Come on, get serious. :/
All of those names, even those based on metals and stuff, can also be used as colors. Best example: Pearl was actually called "Perl-Edition" in Germany, referring to a color, instead of "Perle", referring to a pearl as an object. Ruby, Sapphire, Gold, Silver and Platinum are also all associated with certain colors. The only ones that don't entirely fit in are Crystal and Diamond, but I'm sure you can even associate those with certain colors (like whiteish or light blueish). In any case, my point was just that X and Y fits into neither of those categories. It's neither colors, nor metals.

That makes no sense since Sapphires varies in colour depend on what's in them.
[insert layout here]
Children, please. Are we really having an argument about what the version names of pre-gen 6 games are supposed to mean in gen 6 thread?

Yes, MVS, because according to my shirt, I am always right, everyone else is always wrong. Any questions? :P

(RPG Hacker: I've never seen people use Pearl OR Platinum as colors, only jewel/metal. Although I concede the gen 3 ones, since I forgot they CAN be used as colors. Still, I do not believe they were meant as colors. The use of Version does not automatically mean "we meant colors", no matter what. ~Fin~)

So, I'm assuming that Pokemon TV show thing happened already. What was revealed on it?
