Blue Flamingo Booth

I have a thread here where you can read a bit more about the hack.

Just as a quick summery. Blue Flamingo is a hack I made where I tried to replicate how older platfromers used to be so much more bright and colourful. I find that a lot of hack today have a bit more of a washed out gray palette, so I wanted to make it look fresh. This demo

The demo isn't too long coming in at 8 levels which is the length of the first world. Any and all feed back is welcome and I really hope you enjoy the demo!

Happy C3 everyone!
wow, i really liked the graphics placed into the hack. also, neat title screen.
My Inspiring Quotes on Personal Growth and Change:

"Resolved financial/personal problems equal greater growth!"

"The only constant thing in life is change; nothing is set in stone. The old is replaced with the new. Forgive yourself for past mistakes. When many different problems in your life are resolved (personal, financial, etc.), newfound strength and confidence is gained in the process. Usually, failures, lack of assertiveness, disappointments, incompetence, low self-esteem and lack of self-respect, financial struggles, and setbacks can cause us to change and take action to solve any problem, leading to increased strength and confidence. This you learn from experience.

I have been experiencing this aforementioned newfound strength and confidence myself for the past FOUR to EIGHT years or so, getting stronger with each passing year, learning with each mistake I make and becoming more joyful in the process. Because of this newfound confidence I've acquired over the years, finding my passion is of utmost importance in 2022! You can develop this strength and confidence in yourself as well!"

To whoever's reading this, you are amazing and you are capable of doing equally amazing things. Gather confidence and be yourself! Say goodbye to the old you and welcome the new you! It wants to arise every moment, but you don't let it. Learn from your mistakes and never make that mistake again! Find your passion and live it!"

Finding my passion in life, but I may still be active on SMWCentral from time to time. Still enjoy playing many hacks, but I'm widening my perspective on life and opening myself to the new.
This sort of reminds me of Choconilla Rise except it is less decorated. Nice work THY!
I'm playing your demo... Awesome game! But eh...

You should be remove it in your Luigi's Hack.
Really liked playing this hack. I enjoyed most of the levels (with the exception being "Drip-Drop Dungeon", which I felt went on for too long.
I also liked a lot of the smaller details you included (the bonus rooms in each level are all in the same room) and the little "pow effect" that happens when you jump on enemies or toss a shell is a different color every time.

Seriously, great work! #smw{:TUP:}

Also that was the greatest use of the key I've ever seen

Thanks for pointing this out. The hack will use mario as the main character, I just put luigi in there at the last minute for this demo (trying to play off nintendo's year of luigi thing).
I really like the visual design here. The environments have color and charm, and it's clear a lot of effort went into making them appealing. The way some levels have high and low paths, combined with the coin capsules, do make the hack feel somewhat like a Sonic game in spots. The title screen is a nice touch, too.

That said, the obstacle design feels a bit simplistic, to the point where the levels don't seem to have particularly strong themes (apart from the visual aspect). I understand it's just the first world, though. Also, while the way you can get an extra life by the goal is clever, it involves carrying an item through half the stage, so I never bothered, personally. Oh, and I'm inclined to agree with TheOtherGuy- the battle room in the castle is a nice idea, but I think there are too many iterations.

Overall, it was fairly enjoyable for me. I'm looking forward to what environments you cook up for later levels (:

The nerfed cape compliments your level design, and I really am thankful you included it in your hack (especially the first level).

I love how you set up your bonus rooms to be in one room despite different translevels. Not a fan of the paper mario music used, but it's a nice touch. Carrying the small luigi to the goal is a nice gimmick for a non-essential reward (I "love" where you put him in lava already).

That being said, I only played the first half of the demo, yet I still feel compelled to play more of it and I already played the first few levels repeatedly to make sure I got everything.

Keep calm and stay your course, you are doing well :>

(I didn't see that block I gave you in here, so maybe it is in a different hack :?)
I wonder what a HFD opcode would do in ASM...
@AxemJinx I'm really glad you enjoyed the hack's style since I think I focused a bit more on that. I have to agree with you about the level design of the hack being a bit too simple.
From most of the people I have spoken with after paying this hack, the level design in the first stage seems to be what people enjoyed the most. I will try and design future stages in such a way.

Thanks for the comments guys. It really dopes mean a lot to me seeing people enjoy what I have made.
I played Blue Flamingo a few hours ago and recorded it, and you got some very positive reactions. Unfortunately, it had to end rather quickly.

When I did play, all the small Luigi dolls made me wonder why they were there in the first place. It turns out that according to TLMB, they give you a reward of some sort, so it's like saving the Toads in New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Except I didn't try to toss the Luigi dolls into the small pipes at the end of each level yet, I just ended the level while holding them and nothing happened. I'll probably go check that out though.

Being a fan of the whole Choconilla genre, I took great pride in playing this. The title screen was one of the best I've seen in a while, and the little details that must have taken a lot of time did pay off. Please keep up the good work.
