An idea to help curb the difficulty

I still hold that if we need to save after every level, you have done something wrong. Am I the only one who remembers how gratifying it is to finally make it to the save point after a couple hours play time?

In that regards, I think it would be awesome if we had DKC style save points. Those were always way cooler than SMW save points. Though I guess those won't work if you have an easily navigatable world like in SMW.
So far, the difficulty curve is pretty good (I've played the first four worlds, I am currently fighting Madam Mau), but there is one issue: the bosses. The bosses are too hard for their respective worlds. I am specifically talking about the blooper and Madam Mau. The blooper is just too fast, and Mario does not move fast enough underwater, so he doesn't have enough time to move out of the way unless the player has good reflexes, so this sort of boss would be better in world 6 or 7. As for Madam Mau, when she does the falling block attack, there are too many blocks. The only way to avoid the is to run in one direction (you can't even turn around, or the blocks that were previously above you will hurt you, since they hurt from the sides too). But then you run into the wall, and you have nowhere to go. Your best bet is to slip between the blocks, but that sort of precision is something that should only be done in world 8.
