Been a while but I've got some new screenshots.

If you spinjump on an urchin while holding a throw block it kills it, so you need to keep the throw block off the urchin.




Unfinished underwater section. I was too slow and so I lost my shell.
So you needed to throw up your shell in the last screenshot? What will the shell's use be in this level?

Controlling coins while avoiding a scrolling layer 2 and a fishing boo. Ouch. Not fully tested.
...Wait a minute. I've never thought that you could mix directional coins and layer 2 together without causing some sort of bug; I never could do it due to said bug where it eats the blocks, but now there could be a way.

I like that screenshot. Seems like there is still some uses of layer 2.

Huh, I'm not sure. I just tried to avoid having the directional coins hitting the layer two. I will have a look into that when I can and if that's the case I'll see if there's anything I could do about it.

Or I could make it so you don't collect the coins, instead you use a p-switch or the coin block glitch. I can surely think of something.

Hit the on/off block and grab the pow before it falls off screen.

2 things. The directional coins don't bug in any way with layer 2 (well they didn't with me) and layer 2 screen scrolling pipes.

Now that I thought about it, the directional coin won't eat anything in its way if the second option of enabling sprite buovancy is ticked on, but it will do so if it's not; same thing done in layer 3 water levels. Hmm...

The level seems neat so far. I'm looking forward to see how are you using other objects in layer 2, especially in an underwater segment.

Oh my god how long has it been?

Well, now that I've gotten out of a state of not even opening LM, due to a mega rage quit because my very long and detailed idea fell apart dramatically, I've finally made some progress. There is one important thing though. The water level will now be level 3, and this new level will be level 2. This is due to the levels now matching the overworld and because I kinda run aground in terms of new ideas.

Anyway, here are some screenshots:


Just past the start. That pokey must be 5 segments to pass.


Now that the pokey is 5 segments, we can continue. That yoshi block only allows sprites to pass it.


Even though that bottom shell can be jumped on twice, it is still possible with only one bounce. I probably will change it to a regular shell. Also the ? block has a mushroom.


Definitely gonna change this bit.




Before and after. To get past you need to time throwing the shell so the turn block stops spinning at the right time so the chuck will land on it. Although what actually happens is the chuck jumps up 2 tiles and the turn block pushes it up. But either way, it works.

Oh and the p-switch block kills Mario when he is holding an item.

I don't think there are enough invincibility frames to do that, but I'll change them to red munchers, just in case.

Yes, this. Also I remembered that you can't actually jump back up after getting the mushroom as there is an invisible coin block above the p-switch block. (The dotted outline)
So after much thought and millions of ideas being thrown around, I have came to the thought of re-designing this hack. Hopefully for the better, but we'll see.

Don't want to reveal too much, but I have these ideas:
-(Important) A new name, because honestly, 'Facepalm' isn't the best.
-(Important) Entirely remade levels, meaning any old levels are now void.
-More custom material, emphasis on blocks and music. (Sprites are eh)
-((Kinda)Important) A plot, that will be developed throughout the game.
-Maybe some crossover content?
-Cutscenes for both gameplay and story development.

You might be thinking "Wow he's being rather ambitious" or "Wow showoff/bragger" and yes, I am being very ambitious, simply because I want to put effort into this hack. I don't want to make another "Oh, a kaizo hack" sort of thing.

I am asking for everyone's opinion on this, because I'm still unsure about this taking place, or if I should make this hack and then have my next hack with all these things. I'm kinda worried about putting the expectations of the hack too high as well. So please, discuss.

One more thing, can someone tell me if there's any kaizo hack that has these things out in the fast sea of hacks, because if there is I certainly want to see how it panned out.

I'd say sprites would be interesting because there are certain ones that could be truly murderous (like YI Flutters/Flying Wigglers).

Do whatever you want with the hack. In fact, the current levels looked pretty good actually, but if you want to redesign the whole hack for the good, then go ahead. I have been into this situation as well and I didn't give up on making the levels that were put in mind, although I'd rather see some more custom material in this, like sprites that haven't ever been used before or something else.
