Games You Like, But Everyone Else Hates

Pac-Man World 3: I agree, the fighting sucks, but I think the platforming's good.
BANANA SLAMMA.
Skyward Sword.

Idk I just had a blast when I played it. . .

I agree, I thought fi was annoying, but I thought the motion controls worked well and I felt like a master whenever I fought anything.

More on topic.. Kingdom hearts, I guess??? People always shit on it over the story and disney, but I know quite a few people that love the games too, It seems like a 50/50 thing

Same here.

Additionally, Metroid Other M. While certainly no Metroid Prime, to me, the game at least did the most basic thing right: being a fun and enjoyable game. Despite its flaws, I really like the game go back to it occasionally.

Btw., we get a thread like this about once every three to six months. Am I the only one to notice this? :P
Feel free to visit my website/blog - it's updated rarely, but it looks pretty cool!

The first game had a good story. The second game had good gameplay. The side games were generally pretty bad.

My contribution: Old JRPGs. "But everyone loves old JRPGs, Kai!" Not really; just look at all the JRPG inspired games that have been released in the last 10 years, and see how apologetic they are about their inspiration. Apologizing for random battles, apologizing for simple leveling systems, apologizing for turn based combat, etc etc. I'll still load up a gameboy or SNES RPG and enjoy it just fine, and not feel like I have to endure something unsophisticated. There are plenty of bad JRPGs but that's true for any genre.

IS THAT YOUR FINAL ANSWER?
Kingdom Hearts series is great. The non-numbered titles (I don't think it's fair to call them "side games" or "spin-offs" due to their importance in the series) are good for the most part. Chain of Memories sucks and I wasn't a fan of DDD.

Complaints about the story are mostly exaggerated, at least until we got DDD introducing
time travel and dreams within dreams
. It's generally pretty simple to follow if you actually pay attention to what's going on.
Destiny - I only started playing this after hearing the game got "good" after The Taken King expansion was released, so I'm not sure if it even counts here. But then again, the damage was already done when the game was first released, and I've assumed no amount of improvement or marketing would've changed anyone's mind and created any drastic increase in the playerbase's size. I always find it a shame regardless of the game in question when it tries to hang on for dear life like this.

That one Sonic game that came out in 2006 which I guess is forbidden to enter discussion in any context other than to share memes in mockery of it, or to use in a YouTube thumbnail as a form of clickbait.

I mean... I was young, and I didn't exactly know better...

Yup, my first Mario Kart. I was lucky I liked what is said to be the worst one, because every future iteration I've played onward just kept improving and improving until I now call Mario Kart 8 one of my absolute favourite games. So hyped for Deluxe, too. Hoping it'll mean an active online base again especially for 200cc.
Spyro: Enter the dragonfly wasn't stellar, but I thought it was good enough to complete %100. People seemed to complain about the framerate a lot, too. Maybe it's because I was playing on the Gamecube, but I never noticed any drastic frame drops. (Though they did occur semi-often)
i play as fiery boi in team defense phort two
Mega Man X6, I guess. One person described as "It's a mess, but it's a fun mess", which seems to fit; it was even my favorite game in the series for a period of time. I like MMX7 all right as well.

And if it counts, Super Mario 3D Land. 3D World was better, but 3D Land was still good (except for those stupid Cosmic Clone and time trial levels...), and we were way overdue for a Mario game in that style.

I'm working on a hack! Check it out here. Progress: 64/95 levels.
Chrono Cross seems to be this for me. Yeah, the plot gets real meh at disk 2 but I had a lot of fun with it.
>Mark danced crazy!
Backloggery MyAnimeList
Chrono Cross was unfortunately one of those sequels that didn't quite live up to its predecessor and got unfairly criticized for it. It was a pretty good PS1 JRPG. It was not as good as Chrono Trigger, sure, but still good and had some decent ideas of its own.

Parasite Eve II - Good game mechanics, multiple ways to defeat enemies from brute force shooting to using environmental hazards to melee. Nice magic skill trees with specialization with a wide choice of AOE attacks to forward projectiles to passive skills. But admittedly it has a pretty bad main story. But it does things right by giving main character a little more personality through text when interacting with environment. A shame everyone else is just looking at the story and not the game part of the game.

Silent Hill: Homecoming. - Unoriginal and not a copy-paste of the original Silent Hill formula but it's still pretty good. Very atmospheric (1 or 2 steps down from the originals but still does the job) and I consider the battle system to be more like Punch Out and that's enjoyable in its own way.

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories - Ranks high in my favorite games of all time. Possibly top 4 or 5. It gets a lot of flak for being non-traditional but it more than delivers atmospherically and emotionally.

SMB2 - Ok it's NOT as hated but people are still giving it a lot of shit for not being a traditional Mario. In my opinion it's the BEST and PUREST platformer ever made since they give you 1 ability and the whole game revolves around it. While SMB3 is great it's admittedly semi-"Gimmick: The Game" with the amount of suits it gives you.

I'm super gay for FF8 and it's purely for the one reason everyone loves FF Tactics which is you can literally just abuse the game's rules and mechanics to just obliterate any semblance of challenge and make yourself literally jesus

SMB2 is lowkey the best 2D Mario ngl

Then again I'm of the opinion that 2D Marios as a whole are just really underwhelming outside of Yoshi's Island

I'm easy on the earlier Marios because they're from the late 80s-early 90s and I have a soft spot for SPP due to the similarities it has with YI but as a whole 2D Marios are just not my thing, they're too samey and rely on very basic gimmicks that barely add to anything

3D Marios and DKCs are more my jam
