The End of Savescumming as We Know It

If I don't think making/testing “Kaizo:hard” difficulty is much fun anymore, why not provide an in-game reason as well?

Luigi is jealous that his brother is hailed as a hero even tho he just reloaded his life every time he made a mistake, even claiming that “a toddler could have done it” while he himself struggles to get any recognition while putting his life on the line without being able to reload his life at will. Perhaps things might actually be looking up for him this time as he finally decides to take charge.

-Aims for normal-hardish difficulty.
-Some still-images-with-text cutscenes
-Megaman-style OW and probably similar length too
-Uses the 'KLDC' baserom.

One of the levels that's well underway, Metroid-mania. I've made some exaggerated platform hell Metroid mini-puzzles, so why not make a regular variant?



Reset pipe. 25 coins to pass. The dark-grey coins reduce your coin count to 0, acting as a filter.



The other level that's well underway, a Hammer Brother level called E=MC Hammer.

The story is definitely something unique.

Also if your levels are that well and creatively designed like your kaizo-levels (and since i see, that you use the same custom enemies / blocks as you´ve used in your MMD-series (metroids, coin-filters, etc.)) i think, that this hack certainly gonna be decent to play as well.

Maybe you can work on the palletes though to change the ok-looking vanilla-like palettes to something really good-looking, but that´s the only thing i could criticize for now.








looks neato. I'm glad we'll have an opportunity to play non-impossible levels from you. I'm not sure to I feel about the metroids, I never found them very fun to deal with in a non-kaizo setting.

Gotta be honest, the vanilla palettes look a lot better than his usual custom palettes. I'd keep the vanilla palettes.

Those ones are harmless, to prepare you for the ones that kill you if your coins are 0.

Metroids are absolutely awful (source: 3 months of frustration on a bits and pieces level). Just use disable jumping patch or something. For coin puzzles, use anti-coins.
Downloading a resource from this site that there's absolutely no way to incorporate into a fun design would sound kinda misleading to me.

Wouldn't be quite the same, but the anti-coin might sound more useful than disabling jumping, IF I can make it actually do what it says in the description.

This is looking really neat!

But yeah, just because it's hosted on the site, doesn't mean that it is actually a good sprite/block. There's a lot of stuff that sounds cool in practice but works terribly in a level. I can confirm that the metroids suck.

However, I bet you can mmanage to make them work!

I figured as much, as counter-intuitive as it might sound.


If I end up saving it for the post-game, I'll have to find a way to get rid of the Dragon coin (since they'd have to do with secret exits).

The level already looks really creative looking at the screenshots. My only flaw about the thing is the white shading on the logs which looks pretty weird. Otgerwise I want to see some video(s) of the hack if available.
