same, except I had a SNES Jr. at the time and didn't even know it was named that until this year lol (also found out the SFC has a much better design)

oh yeah, and it was in 2005/6 IIRC, where I played both SMW, the SNES version of Aladdin and I think a game called Choplifter???? which I honestly found it kinda crap, and those three games are pretty much the only SNES games we actually own, so

Super Mario Bros on the NES
Too far back to clearly remember my experience or if I ever beat it (I was like 4 or 5 at the time), but I know my first Mario game was Super Mario Bros. for the NES and it was fun. The first Mario game that I remember playing to completion, however, was Super Mario 64.

I suppose, if we wish to be technical, I had Donkey Kong on Intellivision before this. It is a really bad port. Donkey Kong looks like an actual turd.

That port was actually done bad intentionally by Coleco so the Colecovision version looked better.

Yup, sorta.

It was either Mario Paint or Super Mario World, in the summer of 1994, on my family's newly-purchased SNES. The console was bundled with both games.

this is a really old post but yep, I also started with NSMB, lol.

i watched a friend play new super mario bros on her ds, back in elementary school. it was also the first time i saw a videogame. when i finally got a ds i also made sure to get NSMB.
When I was four years old, in 1996, I was sat in front of an NES with the Super Mario Bros. and Duck Hunt official multicart, and taught how to use the D-Pad and A button. For half an hour or more, I just ran Mario into the first Goomba over and over, giggling. Nowadays, that would be a waste of time, but I quite enjoyed myself then.

This is a thing that's happening, now. Achievements in old video games.
Thank you for the layout, Erik557.
Man, I wish this would've worked. Oh well.

Um... Around 2007 or '08, when I first played SMB3 on the NES. There was once a time when I couldn't get passed the first goomba in stage 1-1, heh.

i just lurk sometimes
When i was a kid, dont remember age. First game was Super Mario World. Still sticking with it all those years later.
I'm guessing it was either SMW, SMB, SMB 3, or SM64. I have very early memories of playing these games. In which order I don't know, but I was probably 3 or 4 years old. (2003-2005 I think)

My first Mario game was either Super Mario Bros 1 or Super Mario World. When I was a little kid, my dad had the good stuff, like a NES with SMB 1-2, and a SNES with Super Mario World. Obviously, he has more games then just those three, but this topic is focused on Mario games. But I also kinda grew up with Paper Mario TTYD when I was much older, about like 12.

Ludwig and Flareon would make a cool team.
The first game i played from the super mario franchise was nothing more and nothing less than Super Mario World.

I played it when i was 5 years old back in 2009 in ZSNESBox, a zsnes adaptation for the 2001 xbox. This is also the first game i could complete and the first game i have in 100%
2008. My bedroom. Lights off, USB controller shaped like a DualShock 2, only transparent blue. I open up Project 64 and load that one game everyone likes, Super Mario 64. I was seven, I couldn't just go out and buy an N64 to play it, I made do with my like 1ghz hand-me-down desktop.

Fun fact, it was only 11 when I played it first and now it's 23. So that's fun.

And then after that, I tried out Super Mario Bros. It was pretty good too. I wouldn't try out the sequel until like this year but I don't know why I didn't play it sooner, it's my favorite game in the series.

I remember pretty well when I played my first Mario game. I was around 5 years old and it was November 2009. I saw a trailer for a Wii game that piqued my interest a lot. And near the end of that month, my mom gave me a surprise gift- the game that I saw on the trailer. That game was New Super Mario Bros. Wii, and I still have this game in my collection. I have many fond memories of this title- particularly because it was easy to understand and quite long. I did technically have a Mario game before this, but I never touched it until midway through 2010. That game was Super Mario Galaxy. And though I do like that game, I do find it hard to play due to its wacky physics making my mind melt- which was probably why I wasn't allowed to play it until I got a bit older.
