Hey there!
So the BRR section's been looking barren as of late. It could be doing a little better in terms of submission count, so effective like right now, the following changes will be made to the submission guidelines!
- SPCs are no longer a requirement for submission.
A few porters have lamented that including this is extra busywork, especially if you're submitting a large sample pack and are forced to include several different .txt and .spc files for the sake of hearing the samples.
BRR Player requires only one tiny extra step to use, but is quite flexible, having a myriad of options that you can't get from a boring ol' included SPC. .
- The only required files for submission is the BRR itself, and tuning information (enclosed within !patterns.txt).
The tuning information for the submission should be compliant with the #instruments section. Instead of an SPC, the submitter should tack on a !patterns.txt to be used with BRR Player, so you can get a feel for how the sample sounds at its intended settings (and so it's easier to moderate!). If there's more than one BRR, be sure to place them in a folder, for cleanliness and organization's sake. The ADSR values are not required for inclusion, but you may include it if you're feeling generous. As most porters are aware, the AddmusicK has a nifty ADSR/GAIN table that works as a really good reference for this sort of stuff.
- Submissions for individual samples are not only allowed, but encouraged.
This isn't a revision as much as it is a friendly PSA. I get the feeling that people may be intimidated by some submissions, such as the 150+ sample Earthbound pack. I'd like to clarify that submissions for individual samples are encouraged. For example, ergazoobi uploaded
a simple TR-808 hat sample, and that is a submission that is just as valid as a sample set from Final Fantasy VI. If you wish to submit individual samples from a song you ported, by all means, go for it!
The BRR section is a very niche one, one that serves to benefit musicians and porters the most. We hope to cater to that crowd as much as possible for the section, and together we'll be able to make the tools for everyone on (and off) the site to make some awesome music and submissions. At the time of posting this, C3 is currently underway, so this is a good time as any to drop your sample library for the masses to use! If you're a porter who doesn't know how to rip samples, you're in luck: your friendly neighborhood local Wakana bae
just released a tutorial for ripping samples from several different sources! If you don't know what you're doing, it's now easier than ever to learn.
If you have any suggestions or feedback, I'd love to take what you have to say into consideration.
enjoy the rest of your day!!!!!!
