Nintendo Labo

DIY Cardboard peripherals that work in conjunction with the joycon and switch. Looks really interesting. Also, Project Giant Robot making a comeback, neat. The joycon RC buggy looks real great.

... But looking at the prices, I think it's a bit too much. 70 USD for the base kit and another 80 for the robot one? Geez. I don't think the games will be sold separately from the kits, either.

I'm generally liking this, my only real concern is that there might not be enough to do with the great big things you make. (for example, it would be cool if you could use the steering wheel one with MK8DX) It's nice to see that stupid IR Sensor getting used at last, if anything.

I'm also totally looking forward to the insane custom holders that people will inventibly make.(and prolly put them up on Esty for insane prices)

Switch games are around $55-$60 right now, what's so incredible about $10+?

They look really damn cool, I'm so looking forward to seeing people using them in all sorts of awesome ways (because I'll never be able to afford anything beyond a Wii :()

to hear birds and see none.
Can I make a sword with this thing and still manage to use it as intended tho (similar to how you use the Wiimote to swing your sword in Skyward Sword) #wario{-_-?}

Aside from the cardboard, the games don't look like they'd be worth the $60 price, but eh, the thing isn't aimed at me anyway. I imagine I'd have more fun building the crafts than actually playing the games, much like lego sets or old Bionicles but I don't think I'd play the games beyond a few hours.
Oh my God, those prices!
£60 for the base pack and £70 for the robot pack. WTF?!! #smw{x_x}
Nintendo posted some videos going a little more in-depth on the first two kits. They really go all-out on the possibilities with what can be done with the Joy-con. The initial reveal trailer was pretty shallow in terms of game content but now that we actually see what can be done I think it can be worth a buy despite the prices.

Variety kit.

robot kit

I still hope they release the games on eshop for cheaper, for those who want to go the true DIY route.
I think its a cool idea, but I don't like the idea of only being able to make some pre-made design that Nintendo made.

In other words, I want to just cut a bunch of cardboard up myself and program my own games to use with my own cutouts and express my creativity that way.

In other words, these Nintendo Labo things just feel like pre-made kits to build. I want to take it to the next level and program the game myself and then design the cardboard cutouts myself too.
Haven't checked the thread a few days, but recently, Nintendo just released some videos of the Nintendo Labo Toy-Con Garage.

And get this: There's actually a bootleg Nintendo Labo in China. (Oh no!)
Also, Studio Experience and the Overview Trailer.

Discuss.

All we gotta know is if they will put the software on eShop or something. Hopefully for a lower price. That would be great.

Here it is!

The video of Nintendo Labo Vehicle Kit is out!

Quote
  • A closer look at Adventure, one of the included games, in which you get to explore a mysterious world featuring pyramids, an archeological dig site, snowy mountains and much more. Use the Toy-Con Key creation to seamlessly swap between a car, plane and submarine to explore the deepest depths and highest heights of the world. Interact with a variety of intriguing characters as you explore and complete different missions solo or co-op with a friend.
  • Each vehicle is controlled using the various Toy-Con projects you build with the included materials in the Vehicle Kit. And each has different controls and special moves in the game – launch a grappling hook with your submarine, do a barrel roll and shoot missiles with your plane, perform wheelies and deploy saw blades or bombs with your car, and more!
  • Different included games offer a variety of fun experiences: In Rally, you pass through checkpoints while racing to the goal. Circuit is a racing game with a twist – you can launch punches at opponents! Slot Cars is a classic game that is controlled using only the Toy-Con Pedal. And in Battle, you can participate in one-on-one automotive combat with other players*.
  • Paint Studio uses the Toy-Con Spray Can to let you personalize your in-game vehicles – and the driver! Gently shake it to feel and hear the “ball” inside as you mix up the paint.
  • Custom Controls, a new feature for Nintendo Labo, lets you make your own controllers for the included games with common household items. Want to ride a broom to steer the plane? How about drawing button controls on a customized screen protector when playing in Handheld Mode? Go ahead! It’s a great way to get started with building your own Toy-Con creations.

Here's your first look at the Nintendo Labo VR Kit!

Quote

Ever wish you could paint like an elephant or feel like a superhero by stopping an alien invasion? Nintendo Labo: VR Kit launches exclusively for the Nintendo Switch system on April 12 with dozens of simple and fun virtual reality* experiences for kids and families to enjoy together. Get a sneak peek at what’s included in the Nintendo Labo: VR Kit in this new video released by Nintendo.

  • Ocean Camera (Toy-Con Camera): Dive into the deep blue virtual sea and complete objectives like taking photos of sea life. The ocean is full of surprises.
  • House Camera (Toy-Con Camera): Interact with the strange creature living in the house – which some people may recognize from the Nintendo Labo: Variety Kit! – and complete missions by taking photos in its mysterious home.
  • Marble Run (Toy-Con Elephant): Try to complete physics puzzles by using various objects to guide marbles through rings. You can even create puzzles of your own to challenge friends and family.
  • Doodle (Toy-Con Elephant): Create colorful 3D artwork by moving the trunk of the Toy-Con Elephant through the air, using various in-game tools and styles to bring your creations to life. Once finished, show off your masterpieces on the TV by docking your Nintendo Switch. An additional multiplayer game lets you take turns drawing and guessing each other’s drawings.
  • Bird (Toy-Con Bird): Soar through the sky on a bird’s back, collecting items and helping baby birds hatch along the way. Players flap the wings of the Toy-Con Bird to fly and simply tilt it to turn.
  • Bird Dash (Toy-Con Bird, Toy-Con Wind Pedal): Compete in timed challenges by racing through checkpoints as you fly through the sky. The Toy-Con Wind Pedal is used in conjunction with the Toy-Con Bird to deliver an extra boost of speed, while also sending a surprisingly strong puff of air toward the player that enhances the sense of flying.
  • Blaster (Toy-Con Blaster): Battle an alien invasion and giant bosses in an on-rails experience that requires sharp reflexes and a keen eye.
  • Kablasta (Toy-Con Blaster): Challenge a friend to competitive hippo feeding. Yes, hippo feeding! Fling different types of fruit toward the hippos to lure them to your side of the pool and score the most points.
  • Hop Dodge (Toy-Con Wind Pedal): As a frog, jump as high as you can on an ever-growing stack of balls while avoiding obstacles and heading soccer balls. The wind resistance from the Wind Pedal will make you feel as though you’re actually experiencing a breeze.
  • VR Plaza (all Toy-Con creations): Enjoy 64 bite-sized games and experiences in VR Plaza, including platformers and puzzlers. Many of these experiences can be enjoyed using only the Toy-Con VR Goggles and Nintendo Switch system.

Two programing tools are included with the Nintendo Labo: VR Kit software. Toy-Con Garage is the tool that is returning from previous kits and optimized for this kit’s Toy-Con creations. Toy-Con Garage VR is a new tool that allows players to create their own VR games and experiences. In fact, Toy-Con Garage VR is the tool that the development team used to create everything in VR Plaza. Players can even import VR Plaza games into Toy-Con Garage VR mode to discover how they work, customize the experiences or use them as inspiration to create a completely new game.
