Introduction -
Welp, I'm burnt out, and I'm not even done yet! Anyways, I got up to Forest of Ilussions, and I'm gonna stop there for now. There's only so much I can do. Maybe I'll come back to this later...
For a Vanilla Hack it isn't bad, however, the quality between levels fluctuates quite a bit. So while most levels are good there are a few bad ones.
-------------
Major Issue 1 - Yoshi Coins:
I'll be quick with this, but the following levels have issues with Yoshi Coins -
-
Yoshi's Island 1 - The vine to collect 4th Yoshi doesn't always spawn due to sprite limitations.
-
Donut Plains 4 - Only has 4 Yoshi Coins.
-
Vanilla Secret 1 - Has 6 Yoshi Coins.
-
Butter Bridge 1 - Has one random Yoshi Coin in it.
-
Vanilla Dome 2 - Has 6 Yoshi Coins.
-
Cheese Bridge Area - Only has 2 Yoshi Coins.
-
Star Road 4 - Has one random Yoshi Coin in it.
-
Cookie Mountain - Only has 4 Yoshi Coins.
-------------
Major Issue 2 - The Overworld:
Fix your damn map! Replace it with a custom one if you have to. Just make it work! Trying to list all the issues would make this list way too long, but I'll list some anyways.
Your Paths are broken. Really broken. A quarter of the time the next level path wouldn't even appear.
Also, your Yellow Switch Palace disappeared for some reason. [See Figure 1]
Figure 1, Missing Switch Palace.
-------------
Major Issue 3 - Getting Stuck:
There are
a lot of ways to get stuck in your hack. Here are, but a few that I found:
Figure 2, Turnblocks & Shells.
Figure 3, If You Hit The Flying ?-Block, You Can't Continue Without Taking Damage.
Figure 4, You Can Swim Under Level With Water Physics, Leading To Situations Like These.
Figure 5, If You Do Just The Right Actions You Can Get Stuck Here.
Figure 6, Ran Out of Time With That P-Switch? Too Bad.
Figure 7.1, If The Player Fails This There Is No Reset, Only Death.
Figure 7.2, Here's a fun fact: Did You Know Directional Coins Only Work Once Per Level? Making This Level Impossible Without a Cape.
Figure 8, Small Mario Can't Break Turn Blocks When He Spin Jumps. Eh, I'm half-asleep. Don't blame me.
-------------
Other Notable Issues:
Here's a bunch of fairly crucial things you need to fix:
- I can't seem to find Star Road 2's Secret Exit. Maybe I'm just an idiot, but I've looked in Lunar Magic, and still couldn't find it.
- Vanilla Dome Fortress has Water Physics for the Reznor Battle, leading to
many, many of deaths during the level complete screen. As Mario will slowly float down into the lava.
- Add a ceiling or something to Butter Bridge 1 as you can stay off-screen the entire time and never get hurt.
- Due to some
REALLY crappy design, it is near impossible not to get hit/killed at the end of Vanilla Dome 4, especially with Yoshi.
- Most doors in the hack do not accommodate Yoshi. I don't want to leave Yoshi behind!
- Way too many Eeries in Vanilla Ghost House's second section. The platforming is already hard enough without any extra obstacles!
Figure 9, What The Hell Was This Level Anyways. This Part Is The Most Stupid Though.
-------------
Other Misc. and Other Less Urgent Issues:
There are just a few more little things to point out:
- Cookie Mountain's Bonus area is weird.
Figure 10, This Parakoopa Troopa Flys Off Screen, Making It Hard To Judge When It Is.
Figure 11, MORE SPRITE LIMITS!
Figure 12, Nice Yoshi.
Figure 13, Mushroom, Meet Wall.
Figure 14, Layer 2 Cutoff.
Figure 15, I'd Suggest Moving The Version Number Here. Makes The Bottom Of The Screen Less Cramped.
-------------
Summary -
For a Vanilla Hack, it was quite relaxing to play. However, that does not excuse the major glaring issues. To think I'm not done yet is... something. So, I'll have to come back with more.
But till then, bye.
