YI Music Guidelines

Music Submission Guidelines
  1. Your submission must consist of a zip file containing:
    • an MML file of the music (or sound effect);
    • all necessary additional samples, in the form of BRR files;
    • an up to date SPC file of the music, for previewing purposes. You'll need to export this using an emulator (ZSNES and Snes9x both have support for this).

    Note that the sample files must be located within a subfolder (recommended) or together with the MML; if you're using the "samples" folder, directly copy your samples from that folder, without including the "samples" folder itself (other subfolders are allowed of course, as long as they are not named "samples").
    If the samples are in a subfolder, the text file must reference them directly (i.e. "foldername/sample.brr").
    Furthermore, avoid including unnecessary files or folders within the zip file.

  2. Your submission must work with the latest version of AddmusicY, under its default settings.

  3. Please, make sure your submission is correctly optimized. Try to loop as many repeating patterns as you can find in your text file.

  4. Please, do not go overboard with loudness in your music.
    Whether you can hear sound effects during gameplay is a good indicator of whether the song is too loud or not.

  5. Please, do not exploit bugs in the music engine for unintended results. Report them instead.

  6. Make sure to edit the info in your SPC file, using the ID666 tag format.
    Note that this cannot be done from within the MML file like AMK -- use a program like foobar2000 (with foo_gep plugin) to edit the tags.

  7. It would be highly appreciated if your music didn't use every last byte out of ARAM (Audio RAM), if possible. Custom samples will eat this up very quickly so be cautious.

  8. If you are not the author of the submission, please provide proof to some extent that you have permission to upload it.

  9. When titling your submission, for songs from games, please use the format "Game Name - Song Title". Do not use ":" in place of "-", nor reverse the order. If a game's title's spelling is ambiguous, refer to existing ports in the section if they exist and follow that spelling. Additionally, if different versions of the game with the same title exist, with different music, indicate the system in parentheses after the game name i.e. "Game Name (System)".
