Staff Applications 2019

Link Thread Closed
It hasn't been a very long time since the last round of staff applications, but we find ourselves with a few new vacancies to be filled.

It's time for another round of staff applications. The list below reflects the staffing needs of the sections as determined by their respective section managers. But we welcome your opinions too, and more applications may open depending on how people respond to the userbase survey, which will be posted later today.

This time around we're looking to hire for the following sections:
- ASM - Click here for some specifics of what Erik is looking for in an applicant.
- Hacks (Non-Kaizo)
- Forum (focus on SMW hacking forums preferred)
- Discord

Keep in mind that being staff means having to put in some hard work; there are no free rides. You must be mature and dedicated, you must have good communication & judgement skills, and you must be able to work well in a team.

Application Information

In your application, please specify what position you are applying for at the top, and then talk about your history on the site and your relation to the position you're applying for. Explain why you feel qualified for the position, and how experienced you are with the position you're applying for. Important information to include is your age, what languages you speak, how active you are on SMW Central, and how much time you would have to attend to your duties. Failure to address these points will result in your application not being considered. We encourage you to elaborate on your skills!

PM all applications to me, Noivern. After the deadline, all applications will be shared with the staff, who will reach their decisions. You have just over one week to apply.

If you have any questions, feel free to post them here.
How can we have non-kaizo mods when non-kaizo hacking doesn't exist anymore #smrpg{gasp}

Also, maybe there should just be a few part-time only hack mods that only work just after c3? Non-kaizo hacking has sadly slowed down like crazy compared to kaizo hacks, but we always have a huge influx just after c3. Seems like some of the hacks rn are still remnants of that.
I'm kinda considering applying. The only thing holding me back is my low difficulty tolerance with hacks. I know you're looking specifically for NON-Kaizo mods, but I assumes that, as a mod, I'd be responsible for Hard and Very Hard. Normal would be my limit, but would that be alright?
Quintesson Judge: Silence, or you will be held in contempt of this court!
Hot Rod: I have nothing but contempt for this court!
- Transformers the Movie (1986)
Whats the pay
I low-key wanna apply but I'm not sure if I'd have a chance considering I haven't been very active since a long time and I came back fairly recently. Could be worth a shot but I have mixed feelings about that.
Posting this on Erik's behalf for ASM Moderator Applications:

Might as well make a small post outlining a few things to help any interested user in taking a decision whether to apply or not.
  • Right now the workload is somewhat heavy as we have an ongoing patch remoderation. Still, we need to reduce the numbers in the other sections, so being knowledgeable in blocks, sprites, patches and UberASM is a must - you need not know the SNES throughly or master the hidden tricks in the tools. Long as you have a grasp of coding in ASM you are good to go. After all, most of us in the team right now are not ASM gods. We all keep learning as we progress on the position - I know I did back when I was hired, remember how many of my resources back then were poorly coded?

  • The amount of resources submitted might seem intimidating at first, but most times the sections are not as busy as they have been lately. The queue is usually always in single-digits. Thus, in any given free time you got, you can moderate 1 or two resources - I don't expect 24/7 immediate attention from anyone. Of course though we expect you to at least be around in the Discord if we need some quick opinions regarding stuff.

  • This time we won't be asking to have tool moderation as part of the role, so you don't need to know any programming language other than ASM.
I'm looking to hire 2 or even 3 moderators. If you have doubts on whether to apply or not, I reccomend you do anyway. The worst that could happen is you not getting hired; and even still, you will be considered for future cases where we need a mod.
I'll try my luck.

With internet at home, I believe I can do more and better than I did previously with all my limitations and constant issues to solve. It'd also give me more motivation to keep hacking SMW - having some task kinda encourages me.

I guess they could do that in any case anyway just so the rest of the hack moderators don't get too overwhelmed. Maybe either during the C3 hype or after so situations like this don't happen.

Good luck on your applications, y'all!
Windowless ride, feeling alive
Are you alive or just breathing?
Regardless of how my application goes, I would like to propose something myself and BeeKaay came up with; a remodel of the difficulty rating of the non-kaizos because some just make no damn sense.
Your layout has been removed.
Small suggestion: you might want to desticky the LM 3.02 news article in favor of the survey and staff applications. I almost didn't notice the latter two, and they're arguably more important.

Good luck to everyone applying! (or rather skill and wise decisions I guess)

The Lunar Magic update is stickied so a link to LM on the front page will always exist. It’s a pretty crude “fix” for now, but I’d really like to keep it stickied or it’ll fall off the front page.

All three can be stickied (survey and staff apps being higher) but this prevents any other news posts from ever showing up.

idk

that's more a case-by-case issue. back to the classics was accepted in the hack purge (a LOT of pre-remoderation hacks have issues, like missing fixme tags and waaay too many of them being labelled "normal") and a lot of hacks likely have inappropriate difficulty ratings due to the author submitting a hack with an unfitting difficulty, and the hack mods not bothering to revise it.

some way to easily draw the attention of section mods to minor aspects of submissions e.g. descriptions and difficulty ratings would be awesome and probably the simplest and least strenuous way to handle this, rather than altering a significant aspect of the hack database and remoderating every single one of them as a consequence

Just a simple question. Say if we wanted to modify what we already sent in. Could we send in a new PM with the same title with an (Edit) in the name to signify a change we wish to make? It isn't too important, but I did initially write my old one around 4 AM. A few tweaks I'd like to make, to make it a final edit.

It isn't too important and I don't want to clog the inbox from the likely high volume that is likely to be received. I am more or less curious. #ab{:D}

You’re perfectly fine, just send a new PM with the edited application.
im great at playing romhacks and being critical, but it's like impossible to contact me and all of my romhacks are terribly rushed because im busy doing other things. i also don't capitalize or fully punctuate which is very unprofessional.
SMW modding is neat, I can't make music if my life depended on it though
