Super Mario: Other World - dead

Back from my age long slumber after C3! I have another level to show:

Grape Ruins 3: Buried Temple

Another revamp level, from before I restarted the hack. Unlike Reach the Moon, this level is fairly linear.
Introduces Bomb/Rock throwing moles, as shown in the last screenshot.

As for the hack itself, not much has changed since C3...but Grape Ruins is about halfway done, so it's hopefully not too long before a proper demo. I've also been thinking about a story, so maybe this hack can actually be about something

Maybe a minor thing, but I'd like if you made that bomb throwing mole more brown-ish than yellow-ish to make it more consistent with that ground dwelling mole on the first screen.

Aside from that, it's shaping out quite nicely! What I like the most is that layer 3 colored mist.

Hm? They both use the exact same color palette, so it's definitely got some brown on it. It's probably obscured by the mist or by the mound of dirt beneath it, but the brown is there.

but thanks for being the first person in a while to leave a response

It's not obscured by a layer 3 cloud or the mound of dirt. I still see some yellow on it. I see that it was a problem of the original sprite, not yours. Maybe it was supposed to look so, I guess?

New stage to show:

Grape Ruins 4: Pricklepath Ruins

Bit of a shorter level. Uses wall spring boards. There aren't many enemies in this level due to the overabundance of brambles, because I don't want it to feel out of place by being too difficult...

I've got 2 new stages to show...

Grape Ruins 5: (currently unnamed)

Rather generic stage. Second half features a short snake block section.

Blue Switch stage: Lunar Starway

Really short autoscrolling level. The gimmick is low gravity since...well, you're on the moon, so your jumps will be really floaty. The stars of course hurt Mario.
Grape Ruins 2 has a secret exit that leads to this stage. I wonder where it could be?

And with that. World 4 is finally done! It's almost like this hack is progressing for once.

I've got a new stage. Imagine that!
Blueberry Skies 2: Bridge of the Heavens

Pretty simple level, introduces Lakitus and by extension, Spinies. Uses a lot of these 'bridge' tiles which take the form of basic ledge tiles and slopes.

Been following this hack silently for a little while now. The past two updates you've posted up have looked really great! Your palettes stick out to me and that bridge level is looking really cool. I can tell how Lakitus and Spinies would be complimentary to the general layout.
So, uh...I have some not so good news. A little over a week ago, we had a power outage, which crashed our desktop... meaning unless a repair shop can work some magic, everything on it is lost. Including the progress I've made on my hack. Now, luckily, I have a pretty recent backup on an SD card, so I can jump back on it and won't be terribly far behind. But, uh...well...

I lost the SD card.

Been looking for it for the past 2 days, and no luck...even though I'm positive it's in this house, things aren't exactly looking up. I've added so much since the last demo that I wouldn't even be willing to start from there for quite a while. I guess this is why everyone stresses the importance of saving backups online... >_>
I'll be sure to update if I manage to recover something, which is hopefully soon

Welp, I think it might be time to pull the plug on this project...there's just too much against the possibility of this ever being completed. Luckily, not much will be lost...this isn't by any means a highly anticipated mega-production hack, and I've made relatively little progress in the 3+ years I've been working in it, so at least for now, I'll just have to label it "cancelled".

I haven't posted an update in months because I haven't even been working on this. Between school, which has been especially hectic as of late, and the lack of a computer...I have neither a way nor the time to even work on my hack. And while I do have most of the game's files on my SD card, essential tools such as UberASM are lost on my bricked computer, and I don't think I have a way to recover any of them. Even if I had another computer to work on, it'd be hell to redo all of that. At this point, my only options would be to completely start from scratch, or just give up entirely.

Just thought I'd give an explanation as to the lack of...well, anything from me lately

Ignore all that drivel I posted earlier. We're (actually) back this time! I can work on this project just about regularly now that it's summer, and I've working at restoring everything to its previous state. I also have a new level to show:

Blueberry Skies 3: Volcano in the Sky

Pretty basic stage, but uses a bunch of Volcano Lotuses. Not enough that it'd get overly obnoxious, but enough for it to be challenging.

I was planning on releasing a proper demo soon, which I haven't done since 2017, but C3 is a few weeks away so I think I'll just put it out then. I'll have more time to fix everything up and potentially make more stages.

A shiny new demo for Super Mario: Other World is available this C3! I haven't made a proper demo since 2017 during this hack's infancy, so check it out, I guess.

New level. New level!

Blueberry Skies 4: Head in the Clouds (I'm still bad with names...)

This level uses a variety of gimmicks, but the two main ones are the Flying Blocks and Spring Boards (as shown in screen 3), with some Bullet Bills and Mushroom platforms thrown in the mix.

Castle is next..

A new level has appeared!

Blueberry Skies Castle: City in the Sky

The castle of World 5! This stage's main gimmick is Timed Lifts, but it also introduces the wooden spike pillars, which are used throughout the level.

And now that World 5 has been concluded, we can move onto the next world in the hack...World C...?

World C - Lemonade Fields
Lemonade Fields 1: Midday Ruins

World C is part of the main overworld map and comes after World 5 (though the overworld map, and by extension Worlds A and B, can be accessed early through a secret exit in World 3)
Anyway, this level takes on a generic grass stage look, but like most of this hack, with a ruins twist. Uses Timed Lifts, Rexes, and Ball and Chains.

Looks very good, cool gimmick.

And we're back!

Since school started I haven't had much time to work on the hack, but I did manage to complete a couple of stages while I was gone...

Lemonade Fields 2: Gemstone Grotto

The few of you who have been following this hack may recognize this one, it's an old level from the scrapped Cave world from over a year ago...
Anyway, this is a relatively short level with lots of slopes and varying heights. Uses Rocks and Buzzy Beetles.

Lemonade Fields 3: Realm of Pipeworks

I originally intended to make this level a lot more interesting by using Pipe Canons and Screen-scrolling Pipes, but I couldn't for the life of me get those to work so we're going to have to settle with this basic pipe-themed level for now.
As you'd expect from a pipe themed level, there are a lot of Piranha Plants.
your simplistic human mind cannot possibly comprehend the complexities of my thoughts
Yes it's been over 2 months since the last update but I swear I'm still working on this

Lemonade Fields 4: Chuckin' Chuck Canyon

As the name implies, this stage uses a lot of Chucks. Sometimes you have to get them to charge through walls to clear a path, and others you have to dodge their rocks or baseballs. This stage has a secret exit.

Are those thin-looking walls, like in the top-left of the first screenshot and in the overhang of the third screenshot, actually solid? They just look like the sides of the regular semi-solid platforms to me.

They're solid--they have dark outlines. I didn't show any screenshots of them previously, but the semisolid platforms have lighter outlines, as shown here:

It's a rather recent change, which is why older screenshots still show the semisolid platforms with dark outlines. I'm not sure if it's a good indication or not, but it's what I've went with...

Back at it with 2 new stages to show! And we've finally reached the next world--only 4 of those left to go!

World D - Maplewood Forest

Maplewood Forest Fortress: Up the Sappy 'ol Tree
Wait, the fortress is the first level of the world?!

What a huge tree!

This is a relatively short tower level, and the main gimmick is the honeycombs--which...are just reskinned net tiles. You can climb them to reach the top of the tower, while taking out those pesky Koopas who seem to have made this tree their home...

And there's even a horizontal section that takes place outside the tree! This also introduces another mechanic, sticky ceilings. As the name implies, you can hold onto the honey covered ceilings and slide across them as long as you're holding the jump button.

Maplewood Forest 1: Pokesweet Woods

Look who it is! This is one of the few levels Yoshi shows up in. I should probably implement him more often....

My, what a strange looking Pokey! These Pokesweets, (very creative name, I know) are unfortunately just reskins, just like the Pokies in World A-2.
