yeah, I was about to say; this is much harder than the last contest LOL
I managed to guess a few, but most of the other ones I either have vague ideas about the original's sources or can't guess the original at all
6 months later, it's time for another! Welcome to the Winter Solstice (or Summer Solstice, for our friends in the Southern Hemisphere) VGM Guessing Contest! Sinc-X and I, bebn legg, are back with 100 (+7) more song snippets from all sorts of video games for you guys to guess the origins of!
While there are no high-quality rips this time around, the EXTREME category returns, featuring 7 ridiculously obscure songs that you most likely have never heard of!
However, out of the 107 total songs, three of them are actually not from video games. There are two impostors somewhere in the whole selection of songs. But going even further, there's an additional impostor song somewhere in there that's composed by one of us specifically for this contest, which we dub the composter. Identifying these will net you bonus points.
The rules are simple.
For each snippet, guess the name of the game the song is from. You can include the track name if you want, but it's not necessary.
Guessing the name of the game correctly will net you 2 points.
Guessing the series the song is from will net you 1 point.
And of course, there are bonus points to hand out as well!
-Each correctly identified impostor will net you an extra 1 point.
-Correctly guessing an EXTREME song will get you 2 extra points.
-If you're the only person to identify a song, you get an extra 1 point.
For the impostors, you can list where the song is originally from, including track name, album, composer, or any other relevant information, should you know it, for that to count as correctly guessing the game. You can also guess a song as being the impostor without knowing its origin; if you're correct, you'll still receive the bonus points.
For the composter, since there's no origin, simply label it as the composter to get a total of 3 points.
There are no penalties for incorrectly guessing the impostors, so guess away!
The top 3 participants will receive a lovely, pretty, marvelous, cute trophy!
You can find the songs here! (alt mirror)
Of course, to keep the contest fun and fair, don't reveal your guesses to anyone else! If you share your guesses publicly, you'll automatically be disqualified from the contest and be banned for a few days. It sounds extreme, but it's just to make sure things stay fun!
Submitting your guesses
Compile all your guesses in a neat, organized format, and send them via site PM or Discord DM to either Sinc-X or myself (bebn legg), by January 4th 2020, 23:59 EST. You've got two whole weeks right until the beginning of C3 to submit your guesses. If you're not submitting a guess for a particular song, there's no need to include it in the list you're sending us. If you remember a song after you've already submitted your guesses, no worries, just send us another PM or DM, we'll compile everything together in the end.
