Overworld Restart!!

Hello im new to SMWC i started working on a project about 5 days ago so im still learning. Ive spent of of this time simply just messing around with things such as graphic editing and been downloading allot of various tools and programs apparently i need allot and messing with the overworld. Now ive got a point form questions now i believe ive learned plenty over the past few days to really start working on my project.

1- do to messing with the overworld to learn and now being ready to really work on the project i wanted to start fresh unfortunately i can't seem to completely refresh the overworld to its default status such as having all the level numbers back on the map since i originaly marked them as completed and now cant seem to be able to reverse it.

2- i wanted to make sure i had a clean rom and i got the cleaning tool but when i attempt to clean it, it states that the ROM has wrong size and that it couldnt clean the ROM

3- Since im starting from scratch and ready to truly work on it what would be the best linear way to start? Level editing? Overworld? Sprite and graphic editing?
I'm not sure if you are using the rom cleaning tools in a proper way. Those are used only to tell if a non modified rom is ok and clean it.

To start over on the ow, just make a copy of the original unmodified rom and edit that.
1- Well i think its because i was already tweaking with it and so maybe it allowing it to because of that.

2- ok i will remember that for future info.

3- i suppose its moot now since i simply deleted my ROM all together and simply re-downloaded it and it has fixed all the issues lol! It went through the cleaner perfectly and it also obviously refreshed my overworld lol! but i made duplicates of my untouched rom to unvoid having to delete again.

4- my main question regarding all the editing, would it be wise to save everything you edit to the rom and then just make a copy of that rom version, otherwords have multiple Rom copies of various edits?

5- what would you suggest i start work on? Levels overworlds? other?

Yes. LM expands a ROM when you save it for the first time, which is why you're getting that error.

It's always a good idea to have backups, and it's basically mandatory to always have a few copies of the clean/unedited SMW on hand (you need one anyway in order to make BPS patches and use LM's built-in restore feature). I personally wouldn't worry about making new copies and new backups for every little change you make to the ROM, especially since LM already has a function to revert to previous versions of the ROM (but, again, this only works if you already have a copy of the clean ROM in your hacking folder). Making new copies and backups is most important when you're about to use some external ASM-based tool on the hack, like when you insert a patch/block/sprite or whatever, since sometimes these can corrupt the ROM if the code is bad or if you made a mistake using the tool.

There's really no "right" answer to this, as it's different for everyone. My personal suggestion is for people to make their overworlds first because it helps them plan out each world of their hack better, and gives them more direction when deciding what to base levels around. But really, just go with whatever works for you.

Kool thanks for all the advice.

1- yeah that was sorta what i was thinking on doing first was the overworld, i figured it would be easy to figure out my levels and such as i already have the overall plotline and story elements figured out and written down, sorta like a script so i know what happens and where i wanna take my characters.

2- Well since this is my very first project and it looks like its gonna be a fairly big one, im gonna try to refrain from loading things that will require patches as i dont wanna complicate things more then i have to.

3- how would i go about loading background graphics, is it the same process as loading character sprites onto YY-CHR or is it a different process? Regardless is this something that would be explained on SMWC i know thats how i found manage to figure out many things so far along with youtube and fellow hackers on here.
