Super Mario WorldDemo

I decided to start working on a new hack a few weeks back, and this short stub of it is the fruit of my labor. I was busy for a short bit of time working on my other project, cutting my time to work on the hack. Anyways, here it is, Cartographer Mario! Download it below.

Cartographer Mario (Level 1)

There is only one level that I have finished, which was my first level I ever created from scratch. So, please give some feedback on the design, because it probably really needs it.

Additionally, since the Overworld is a rather important part of the game, some assistance with its creation would be helpful. If you (by some sort of miracle) are interested in the Overworld, you can PM me.

Thank you.
Alright, gave the level a shot.

So far, what you have here is pretty neat. I was immediately going to say that the song choice didn't feel right entirely, but thinking about it more, it seems to fit in nicely.

I will say the variety was my main concern here. I mean yeah, the level was called "Slider Beach", but there could have been some other enemies sprinkled throughout. For example, have a scenario where a Slider goes down on a hill, you jump over it, then suddenly, you see a jumping Parakoopa or something of that matter. This also could have worked the other way around. I remember the three platforms over the Munchers with a Slider Koopa throwing a shell at the end. You could have had the player time their jump on hitting a red Koopa over that small platform, then when they had little time to recover, the Slider Koopa throws the shell and you have to avoid that.

This is just a bit of nitpicking, but I'm not always the biggest fan of a midway point being placed in a single room like it was here. I just don't see the point of it, and the fact that the midway entrance begins out of the pipe you entered, makes me wonder why even going to that room was an option. Also, I found it a bit annoying that there was that one path you had to walk in the way to advance and you couldn't even jump because of the Munchers above. It made it very annoying to walk across because of the current going on at the same time.

One more thing, I probably would have extended the flat ground at end of the level where you are forced to jump on one of the Koopas to get the Yoshi Coin. I think that would have given the player a little bit more reaction time to realize that's what they had to do, but again, that's just me.

Overall, don't take the criticism as the level is bad. It was pretty fun to play through, despite what I said. It seems like there was some time put into the setups. It just needs a little more variety on the enemies. That's my only gripe.

Alright, thank you so much! I want you to know that I really appreciate this, as it went better than I expected. Thank you, and I'll work on a new version of the level soon!

Would have loved to get some screenshots on this. Probably would have gotten a bit more activity if it had.
Layout by LDA during C3.
I suppose you're correct. I'll include some shortly.
