Let's talk about the Coronavirus

In May ,I saw about 99% people wear face mask.
But now ,only 5% wear face mask.
I don't know is good news or bad news...
As of 3 August, my home state California has over 500,000 covid cases and 9400 deaths. Florida, Texas and Arizona, conservative states with far far smaller populations, trail us by a small margin. There are 4 problematic counties in southtern California that are spreading it majorly to neighboring counties. Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino and Riverside counties. Los Angeles is the 2nd largest US city so the high number of cases isn't a surprise. The remaining 3 counties being majority conservative are openly defying the governor's mask decree to the point where he had to sign it into law for the entire state. In May, a lot of businesses began reopening with the hopes people would practice social distancing and mask wearing but nope. Everything is once again put on a soft lockdown and 53 of the 58 California counties will now be doing online schooling because it's too dangerous to put children at risk of contracting the disease. I REALLY hate this American mentality of MUH FREEDOM! YOU CANT MAKE US DO WHAT WE DONT WANT! That problem being exacerbated by the idiot in chief. I was in Phoenix Arizona in June and there is no uniformity across the state. Their Republican governor opened the state way too early and when cases began to rise he flat out said it wasn't his job. So now cities across Arizona are implementing their own laws. It's really stupid.
I think a post layout goes here somewhere...
Really, it's nothing different here in Germany too. People really want to ignore the virus (it still exists, the cases are rising) cause it to risk a second lockdown. It really tells you how simple minded the general public is.

It's really the same information as in the old post. But don't get me started on the demonstrations where the participants shout for their freedom for a supposedly non-existing / harmless virus!

That mentality is also incredibly fucking ridiculous given all the protests right now. While Karens across the nation are protesting about not being able to get their hair done or having to wear a piece of cloth on their face, people of color are protesting about their people being systematically murdered. Like, come on, your hair can wait. I hated my quarantine hair until I could get it cut too but shit happens, I'd rather me and my loved ones stay alive.

IKR. On the flipside I wonder if banning masks would result in some of those same people chanting "The government has overstepped. It's our right to wear masks if we want to!" and wear them anyway.

That general mentality reminds me of Pastor Greg Locke having recently put out a video of him very angrily ranting (to the point where some of the comments suggest he seek anger management) about Dunkin Donuts requiring masks and telling him to put on one even tho he had gone there several times during the pandemic without one on with no incident, and in general acting like a male Karen. Of course such videos wouldn't be complete without the usual conspiracy nut talking points about masks leading to an Orwellian dystopia. Oh, and he also said somewhere in the video that in his church, social distancing is completely optional and wearing masks is discouraged.
Meanwhile the church I go (which is also open) actually has ppl wearing masks and social distancing, and fellowship consists of air hugs or waving.

Think a little about it and you'll find the answer yourself.

As of today, my city has reached the saddening amount of 1.1k confirmed cases and 22 deaths. I've gotten out with my gf recently and the amount of people with no masks and social distancing in every corner is alarming. The town hall was debating about changing between yellow and red flags, and not only they decided to impose red, it'll adhere to lockdown for unknown time with some of the commerce still open. Sweet.

Also, I had to go to a supermarket last week and they were checking on the temperature of all customers, with one worker standing by the entrance just to do that. Not all supermarkets abide to that, though, but it's a gradual process.

I don't believe Russia as an entity would so overtly publish "fake news", with Putin of all people announcing them.
It's a country run by an evil government, but they're not so stupid as to ruin their reputation by claiming to have a vaccine where there is one. At worst I think it would be a rushed solution, one with faults but nonetheless functional in the limited tests that have been run, motivated by the prestige of being the first country to have published the cure to a worldwide pandemic.
It barely matters, anyways. As long as it hasn't gone through extensive testing, it's usage won't be permitted anywhere in the world, and once it has gone through extensive testing, we'll know that it's safe to use.

You could verify the possibility of a "fake news" by searching through the articles yourself.

Then again, as I said several posts ago, that vaccine isn't the only one and it's not known whether it'll get approved for a long time. It hasn't passed all tests yet, so what guarantees you that it'll be the official vaccine?

Also, my city underwent a 3-day "lockdown" this weekend. In quotations because the "rights to come and go" "justified" the return of hanging out by our justice the next day. However, the lockdown was kept and the commerce was still closed for the time being. What a mess.

My uni is requiring everyone to take a test before returning to campus, which spawned a whole gaggle of idiots petitioning hard against the administration for "undermining students' rights". It already has 73 signatures too.

I agree that all of this is frustrating, but come on people. The safety of everyone around you is worth having to take a few hours out of your time for a medical test.

Not exactly! We're very stoked to see this news because the vaccine, Sputnik V, will help stop the virus quickly! We can't wait to use this for next month or two. In Soviet Russia, vaccine cures you!

BREAKING NEWS!
THE PHILIPPINES HAS DISCOVERED A NEW MUTATED CORONAVIRUS STRAIN CALLED 'G614'
This replaces the first version of the strain, named D614, making it the most dominant coronavirus strain circulating worldwide. The mutation affects the spike protein or the structure that the virus uses to get into the cells it infects.

I wanna be excited about that but it seems like it might have been rushed (I heard it was only tested on 70 something people?) But if more ppl can take it safely then maybe I can be pleasantly surprised.

College will return normally...through Microsoft Teams, just like last semester. I'm still working, remotely, but still working. I have four masks at home (family just kept giving me more as time went on), and I'm living alone now due to my father leaving to his former house back in April.

It's been weird. I'm taking it as a personal challenge to see if I can sustain myself and take care of everything around the house and so far, I've been surviving. Could be doing better though I guess.

I've been avoiding going outside unless necessary, and I've been finding out that there's a lot of stuff you can buy and just have it be delivered right to your door! How convenient.
I haven't really left the house since March, except to take out the trash and send a single letter, which really only got me a minor distance away from the house. That being said, I have a doctor's appointment on Monday, so I will get out of the house and into a train for the first time since then. I don't really want to, but I should not ignore my health.

I have a lot of masks at home as well. I also have one from the pharmacy my girlfriend did her internship on.

I haven't been going outside too much recently, sans for important shit (my remote theoretical driving lessons just ended this week and I have to go downtown personally to set up a date for the first exam).

This crisis taught me a lot of valuable lessons, such as filtering out self-seeking friends from my life and looking for hobbies to focus on, which is... good. On a less refreshing side, I've gained weight (no motivation 🥺). Oh well.

Well, too bad I only have and can only use disposable masks here since I don't have one of those permanent ones my parents are using; I'm barely going outside tho so it's not much of a problem, but I'm kind of baffled that they didn't think that I would need something like that, especially since it's been months already and I'm still using the same disposable masks since the start of this thing; knowing them, I shouldn't be surprised, but ehh ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I spent most of the pandemic so far at my parents' house which is in a rural area so I had fewer qualms about leaving the house. Even then it was mostly nature walks where I didn't run into anybody anyway - I even got away without having to wear a mask for weeks.

Since a month or so ago I'm back in the big city, and even though the number of confirmed cases is almost negligible, it turns out... I don't really feel safe here. It's more crowded than I'm comfortable with right now, and even though the lockdown is long over I haven't left my room these past few weeks. Except to go for groceries during off-peak hours, go for walks at 2AM when most are alseep, or meet up with friends every now and then.

It doesn't help that I tend to get paranoid about the smallest of symptoms - I have a tiny sensation of something in my throat and I keep wondering against the odds if I caught covid or not, despite knowing I can't really have gotten it from anywhere except maybe that one time in the crowded supermarket. welp

The upside is that since university courses are continuing to take place online, I really have no reason to stay in this city so I might as well pay my parents an extended visit for another semester.

I think I've been handling the isolation side of things well enough so far (my routine hasn't even changed that much), but I'm very much looking forward to a safe vaccine being available just so I don't have to keep worrying about what's risky or not.

Same. I could've sworn I had it back in March but that wasn't the case. I do find myself getting concerned if I have a brief cough, fatigue or aches.

I did the antibody test and two active tests, all negative. So, glad I seem to be doing something right, although I understand there are no guarantees with this virus.
Don't leave out my house too often. I also live in a town, not far away from a city (but not actually part of). If I go out, it's mostly for work (which takes the pandemic seriously), groceries, a walk or to drive around with my bike.
If I go to the city, though, I rather want to avoid people. I do take public transport for longer distances (including getting to the city), though.

About masks: I bought two masks in a pharmacy, a friend of my mother gave me one and I bought another one last week. Still using them.

That was me on Sunday/Monday. Nose was blocked, had slight headaches (got worse on the afternoon) and felt a bit tired which could mean I had COVID-19. Got tested negative, at least.
I also wore my mask all the time (even outside) just in case.
