VLDC12 - Results

Congratulations to the winners!

VLDC12 has a number of pretty good entries, so I'd recommend checking at least the Top 10 out.

Now, time to compare my scores to the judges'. I predicted first place and seventh place (my personal favorite), but everything else is somewhat of a mess. I'm rather excited to see which judge I agree with the most!
congratulations to everyone who entered!!

I guess not. 135 Entries (yes I am Including the Disqualifications) and I have placed 118th. It would seem should a Collaboration Hack for this Contest actually be made, I will be placed on the Worst Levels Map yet again. #tb{D:}

I doubt a Worst Levels map is going to made for the VLDC12 collab. If anything, the only reason there was a Worst Levels map for the VLDC11 collab in the first place was because it was already planned from the start, and those asking for the Worst Levels map to be removed was after it was implemented.

Though, I'm not exactly speaking for the upcoming project. Maybe  FPzero could shed some light on this.

Congratulations to all that entered and placed well. I would've participated, but I had my own demons to fight, so I had to opt out.

STELLA!
With all the critiques my level got (especially during fan judging), I expected to land somewhere under the 40s, maybe a generous 30....how did I get 10th place? lmao I kind of feel bad because there are good entries that deserve higher in my eyes, but hey I'm not the judge.

I guess ripping off my VLDCX entry...paid off? #smrpg{gasp}

congrats to everyone whose participated. I'll see you in VLDC13.

i give snn a lot of shit because hes a horrible little bastard man BUT i appreciate how nice he was to work with on this level, esp with how hard of a time i was going through (and how i admittedly wish i had done more contribution to the level other than visuals and some puzzle ideas).

next time will idol work alone?

probably not, because that sounds so lonely

hey that's the nicest thing you've ever said about me or anyone - thanks!!
nice
ask me if i give a f*ck...
should we put "common sense" in the rules next time...?
Much respect to everyone that participated and all of the judges! It takes time, commitment, and effort to make a level and 10x that to judge so thanks to all involved.

On a personal note shot out to FPzero! I hope that the hard times you were dealing with have passed and that things go nowhere but up for you. Only a good person can think about doing for others in the mist of their own troubles. Also after being second to last the previous year and getting killed by FPzero on the video playthrough and everyone else except raocow, it means the world to me that FPzero gave me a 71. FPzero, Green Jerry and JP32's youtube playthroughs are the reason I found this site and entered any contest. My level was made with FPzero's feedback in mind as well as everyone I have previously mentioned and also Sariel Mizuho. I only make levels to see the playthroughs so it means a lot when they enjoy it. Also shot out to Rykon-V73 aka gamedragon for helping everyone out by breaking away from alphabetical order to create a playthrough of my level since a lot of people were having trouble with it. In closing thanks to Rykon-V73 and Sariel Mizuho for the effort it took to playthrough everyone's level.

Congrats to all from first to last and if you were last just know that someone out there liked your level, learn from the feedback, and as long as you enjoy it keep going and have fun.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!

If we do a VLDC12 Compilation, I plan to not have a Worst World any longer. There's really no need, and this way we can have another free submap available for a world theme.
Finally got to read the scoring and I'm pleasantly surprised with the creativity grades. I feared it wasn't too much but all judges found it creative.
Also, Atari mentioned Depraved Stronghold, and this is EXACTLY my inspiration. I wanted a shorter and less hard Depraved Stronghold (which exlains the name, Prude in opposition of Depraved).
I'm glad the reference/inspiration was noticed.

This was not in the rules, because it shouldn't have to be stated after 13 years of running contests on this website.

You would think that anything that could disqualify a level would be put in the rules.

Why do you think everything that doesn't need to be stated should be made obvious in the rules?

Any level that doesn't work (I mean, physically cannot load) is grounds for disqualification. The level doesn't work, therefore, it should be disqualified.

Next contest, you'll have to make sure that the level works legitimately, whether if it was an accident, or if it was intended.

STELLA!
Started by checking if I appeared in disqualifications, then started looking for my username and when I didn't find it I thought I missed it. But no. Definitely wasn't expecting 24th place. I had really hard time to focus on making level and it was few last days rush. And my aesthetics are even worse than last VLDC. And also reading fan judges comments made me believe that I will end in 2nd half of entries.

Congratulations to winners, other participants and fan judges. I hope everyone had a lot of fun. Secretly hoping that compilation hack will not happen. Otherwise players will miss my "fantastic" introduction levels.

I really feel this whole ACE thing could just be avoided if the rule is there. Could just be written as simply as "No Arbitrary Code Execution (ACE)." I get that it's common sense, but if there's going to be this much heat about it you might as well just add it for future events.

I don't know if existence of this rule would change anything. It feels that author of level using ACE would do everything to find another loophole in the rules.

And is it just me or is situation like that happened before. I don't know if it was the same author, but there was level that was randomly generating cement blocks. I think it was VLDC 3? It was allowed by one of judges after long begging, but I don't think this judge knew that final result will not be exactly legal.
There's practically zero benefits in adding such a rule, especially if it's unilateral. I don't like how we have to spell out to not find loopholes for the sake of common sense, as judges will just waste their time discussing whether to disqualify the offending entry or not. If anything, they could just be disqualified from further contests if they keep getting hasty like this (and the ACE situation is a first, to my knowledge).

That was indeed a level from VLDC3: Blocks of Chaos by Smallhacker. That one (to my understanding anyway) wasn't ACE-related but instead relied on an exploit from LM 1.00 regarding how levels are inserted into the ROM. I don't know if he "begged" for his level to not be disqualified, though; I think he was just able to submit it and explain how it's "vanilla" if the judges asked.
