"This ROM either has the wrong game title, or is in the wrong format."

Link Thread Closed
OK so, when I opened up a ROM with Lunar Magic, it says:

"This ROM either has the wrong game title, or is in the wrong format."

Can someone tell me how to fix this error?

:(
have a nice day peeps
This can be caused by patch or external tool.

Did you read F.A.Q ->Errors?

Or it can be changing the format on a hex editor.

Or it can be a ROM inserting XKAS.

Anyway,only way to fix this is load a backup of your rom (if you made one) or transport all sources to the clean ROM .

Thanks.

Yeah, just make a backup for every hack you start for instances like this.

EDIT: For a second, I thought someone hacked my account and posted this because we have the same profile picture. xD

Wow, really? I just right-clicked and saved it.

#smw{O_O!}

EDIT: I was gonna open up the hack, "MARIO," but it says that error. How can I backup the hack?

The "load a backup" advice only applies to your own hacks.

If you see that message when opening someone else's hack, it may mean the author didn't want people to open it in LM.

I know how to fix this fairly easily simply load the rom up into a hex editor and give it a clean rom name

a rom with header will have the name located at 0x81c0h and a headerless rom will have it at 0x7fc0h. simply replacing the rom name with the one from a standard unedited rom will make it openable in lunar magic
Hey, please keep an eye on the dates. This thread is 5 years old, and as such, the bump is unwarranted.

GGamer1000, PM a staff member if you ever return and haven't found a solution to your latest issue by then.
