The Jukebox - Chatting about music!

Hallowed be thy Name - Bardcore
I always loved this song, and always thought it had a bit of medieval sound and feel to it at moments, now it became full-fledged. I really like how this sounds, I love the varied instruments. There's definitely an atmosphere going on, it's really faithful to the original. It almost sounds like it could be used in a game (I'd love to see that honestly).

I've never been into BABYMETAL at all, but I just clicked on this live performance out of curiosity, and I actually liked it, which felt surprising. That's so far away from the cutesy baby voice pop music with guitars thing that they were doing years ago, and the vocals are actually super powerful, which I like.

I wondered if I was remembering things wrong and checked some of their older stuff, and yeah, it's definitely not my cup of tea, and so I headed back to see if that was their new standard, and it seems to be. There's still the idol image and dances, but the music is just regular metal with some experimentation, and I like this way more. They toned down the baby image significantly, and I prefer it this way.

I get that the appeal of the group to many was the mix of idol pop music and metal elements, but I always felt they clashed, as the basis was very poppy and that made the metal elements feel forced and kinda tacked on (that's coming from someone who's into all types of weird crazy shit, so I'm not a regular metal elitist). Now the music feels more natural and not forced, while still retaining some of the idol elements. It seems like they have been like this for at least a year, and I honestly enjoy it.

(Dusts off thread)

In addition to playing the game, I've also bought the Everhood OST from Steam. Some of my favorites are Beyond Human Comprehension, Tinnitus Dance, Souvenir de La Boum Avec Sophie Marceau, Why Oh You Are LOVE, and Revenge.

I've been really getting into Spotify lately. I've always been in love with music (obviously), but creating playlists for various vibes and looking at what others put in their playlists is becoming a new addiction for me.

If anyone wants to follow me, my account ID is 22tzvthlcugdaop5ix4n54ina (screenname KTB). I'd love to see you guys' profiles (I only have Spotify, but I'll look even if you use iTunes). It's very fascinating to me to see how other people organize their playlists - some people sort based on the four seasons, or different times of day, or just specific emotions. I still haven't decided yet how I'd like to set mine up, so I'm always open to suggestions or song recommendations.

I wanted to create a thread, but since we already have one discussing music...

Actually I think I should participate more there.

My question for y'all is, when did you discover the music of Sevish? How did it influence your music tastes or goals?

For me it was a mindblowing discovery, it was in 2017 and I was researching about different scales for music, I posted a question to a facebook page for beatmakers: it was a question about quarter notes I had seen in some maqam scales and I was wondering... I never knew about quarter notes before.

Then one of the commenters linked me songs by Sevish, and those were my two first listens:
Desert Island Rain and
Guano Sequence

truly mindblowing stuff! I pretty soon digged down the rabbit hole and learned what an EDO is, read some articles from the xen wiki,

etc,

now I still can't compose a xen song (or a 12edo song anyway) but I thinking finding about microtonal stuff with Sevish as my first was really great and opened my mind to expand my musical landscapes for listening pleasure.

Cheers to Sevish!
Just learned what of my favorite bands - Starbomb - broke up last year and only made the three albums I know and love.

I am sad. But thankful for what they did release. I guess being gone makes their content more valuable.

My partners have been getting me into a lot of artists over time, and in particular, I've loved 100 gecs. They just released their newest album recently, 10,000 gecs, and we're even going to one of their concerts for it in Brooklyn at the end of the month!

It's weird, actually - 100 gecs' musical style really didn't jive with me initially. It sounded too.... crazy? Hyperpop is not a style I was aware of beforehand! I'm not the most musically inclined person so it's hard to describe my feelings for it, but really, I started to like it the more I listened. I've listened to all of their music now and if you want a good song recomendation, I'd easily go with "Doritos & Fritos"!
Through, well, honestly random chance on Spotify I've found a lot of artists but took a liking to muse recently. Have some now estanged friends (long story) who also have similar tastes. But I'm not super familiar with the music lingo beyond a little buffy speak, so if anyone who has more knowledge is into them, lmk why in those terms #smw{;)}

100 gecs is awesome. I would not have been open minded to it ten years ago or so... It would have been a clash of too many different genres for me. But something about this era has made me more open to experimental genre-bending sounds.

Yeah, 100 gecs is one of those bands that I used to think people only liked ironically, but some of their songs have grown on me over time. I'm especially partial to "stupid horse" for some reason.

I like Muse a lot, though I'm not entirely sure what you're asking for. Are you looking for more information on "music lingo"? I suppose I'd start with looking up information on different genres / styles and do listen to popular artists in the categories you're most interested in to get a feel for them.

Reviving a dead forum? I hope not. I've been listening to Minus Blindfold By Deftones, as a matter of fact I've been listening to the whole album which the song comes from. The album name is Adrenaline and it was Deftones debut in 1995. I'd give the whole album a listen when you have the chance.

Everything Everything - "Cough Cough"

I've listened to some of this band's songs before thanks to SMWC, but I've been going through their entire catalog recently after a recommendation. Some of Everything Everything's albums have been criticized in the past for being "pretentious", but I do really like the sound that they've got. Jonathan Higgs' voice really sticks in my head, and has some great range. This particular song in is really fun, and goes to some interesting places. :)

My latest song obsession has been Power of the Saber Blade by Dragonforce, which came with the OST6 update of Beat Saber (which I'd been a little late to the party on due to an issue that seems to have been resolved by ordering a replacement cable), the Expert+ version of which looks harder than hell, like the rhythm game equivalent of platform hell. One of the comments compared it to the opening of a 90's anime dub.

They're good.
Personally, their first three albums are my favorites, with Get To Heaven as their absolute apex. Although not as outstanding, the other three albums have some fun stuff too, especially Raw Data Feel. They'll put out a seventh album this year (March, I think), and the two singles so far had me pretty excited.
It's easily the best thing I've done
So why the empty numb?
