and Thanks, gonna play this 7.0 today!
Version 8.5!

Hello everyone, I have version 8.5, sorry for being so late on this one.

This time, I believe the level design of all levels in the game have completely changed. Jonathan either made these by scratch or took them from other hacks, so if you find out that you made some of these levels, tell me and I will credit you. Otherwise, Jonathan made these levels.

The title screen was also changed, along with the font. No Mario + Luigi mode this time though, just vanilla.

Version 9

Even though the thread is dead, we are still going strong.

Changes (should) include more sprite swaps, better level design, etc. I will check Lunar Magic once I get the patch but for now just assume "there are changes".

Includes both Mario & Luigi plus standard versions.

Video and link removed as comments section for video contained a ROM link

Never mind, the link from that video on youtube provided the download link.
When's the next update?

so far, the OP isn't talking
maybe because of inadvertently posting a link to a ROM instead of a patch file
have you tried contacting the OP via PM?

though I did download v9 and it contains the bps patch files and not any rom files.
so I'm not sure what really happened

edit - I did get to play the latest version of SMWPE and I found a minor issue in yoshi's island 3 level and there's only 4 dragon coins there and not 5 like in the original SMW game.

I am pretty sure that the author has to post a patch link than a rom link, and yeah the latest version, the levels do lack dragon coins

the latest version that I'm playing is the v9 version which do "not" lack dragon coins.
a few levels (like yoshi's island 3 & cookie mountain) have less than 5 dragon coins and a few others (like vanilla dome 3) have more than 5 dragon coins (i think vanilla dome 3 has either 6 or 7 of them)

also, most of the levels that have message blocks that contain empty or blank messages.

Huh Interesting

one example is this Choco Ghost House level in Chocolate Island

hitting the message block there shows an empty/blank message

though I've finished version 9 of SMW Proto Edition yesterday 7/12 (all 96 exits found) and here is the other problem that I found:

entering Door number 8 from Bowser's Castle (used to be called "Front Door" in original SMW)

leads to this:

Mario starts this part of Bowser's Castle and is mostly "invisible" (maybe sprite memory or sprite limitation problem and might need "no sprite tile limits patch" - search for that somewhere here in SMWC)

Ok, more issues I see
yes, more issues that needed to be fixed before the next version

you're just gonna have to wait a while for that one
come back in a few months when the season changes from summer to fall/autumn (around late September or early October)
Final Version!!! VERSION 9.5

Hello everyone, I’m finally back for one final post on this forum. It’s been an honor posting this hack as it was one of the first along side a few others such as Kinoko Island to feature beta elements and sprites in a Super Mario World romhack. I have attached a link below as usual. Here’s what has changed
-message boxes were removed
-dry bones sprite changed
-room 8 of Bowser’s castle has been tweaked
-fixed/added cut Mario sprites

thanks for the new version.

but not all message boxes that produce empty or blank messages were removed in the 9.5 version.
the message box at the beginning of the Donut Plains 4 level in the 2nd world in the 9.5 version shows an empty/blank message

other minor issues - i'm not sure why but there seems to be 6 big coins (or dragon coins) in the Star World 5 level in Star Road when there should really be only 5 big coins. another level that has more than 5 big coins is the Vanilla Dome 3 level in the 3rd world, which has a total of 7 big coins (a few too many, remove two of them to only have five). also there may be some levels with just 4 big coins or less; for example, Special World 5 level in the Special world only has 3 big coins (need to add two more to this level to make it five). another example is the Valley of Bowser 3 level, which has only 4 big coins (and one of those big coins is only reachable with the super leaf/cape feather right above a group of coins; if there's supposed to be a blue p-switch to change a group of small coins into empty blocks, the blue p-switch is missing in that level so that the "unreachable" big coin can be collected without needing the super leaf).

edit 10/26

Okay. Cool. The hack looks great. Problem. The level designs suck. I'm sorry they just do.

I don't know if Jon's "nerfed" it in the past, but either way, these levels are WAY too oppressive right from the jump. I can't get past either Donut Secret House or Castle 2.

Like do any of these look fun to you? Because they aren't for me.

I don't know if this is, like, a skill issue on my end, but GOD Jon please nerf these I beg of you. I don't care if the harder levels are more "prototype-accurate" or whatever. Sometimes you need to sacrifice a bit of prototype accuracy to make something actually fun to play. I like that you went through the effort of changing up the levels, but PLEASE make them fun to play. These levels are so cheap at such an early point in the game, and I don't have faith it gets any better from here.
(I don't mean any of this as a personal attack by the way, but I've been trying to get through both these levels for almost an hour now so I'm quite pissed about it.)
(And also Jon, if you aren't gonna nerf them, at least give me tips on how to do better at them? Because GEEZ these are horrible and I know I won't be able to beat them on my own.)

yea those parts from Donut Secret House & the 2nd castle aren't for amateurs (maybe for expert & super players they won't be an issue to them)
I've past those parts without getting hit though it took several attempts (and starting those levels with extra power ups in reserve and using a few save states)
Well, I'll have to go back to the prototype because I saw the comments that people got angry because of the difficult levels. I apologize.
