Because YUMP and YUMP 2 were considered joke hacks by most, the creators had more freedom - they could experiment with new ideas - which made each level feel unique.

I play with keyboard which makes it easy to use rewind to practice levels, try to find breaks, try to find consistent setups in levels or just mess around in general etc.;
I watched other people play and I noticed that they used controllers which meant they couldn't use savestates or other tools instantly; they had to pause for a second to make a savestate and then load it.

Does that give keyboard players an advantage significant enough to be considered cheating?

(Also, which input device is better to play with? I have never played games with a controller so I don't know if I'm missing out on something.)
I suck at using a keyboard to play games like Mario. Muscle memory doesn't like it at all, and I evolved thumbs for a reason, dammit.
GANYMEDE

Chapter Two: Land of No Shame
I sometimes use a keyboard when I'm out and about on my college campus testing out my smw levels and don't have access to my snes controller.
I can confidently say that I am terrible at using a keyboard to play Mario haha~ When I first started playing rom hacks it's all I ever used though so somehow along the way I've lost that art.
But yeah these days playing with a keyboard just feels foreign to me.

But to answer your question I wouldn't consider it cheating. While you can route any of Mario's movements to any key you want, you still need to learn the muscle memory.

Currently leading another "yumplike" that sorta plays with the idea of "throwing ideas at a wall", but yeah leading R-ACK certainly brought ideas to the table that have never existed in SMW before due to some ideas being so wild that they don't fit anywhere else. That's why the "yumplike" is a genre I appreciate very much, though they do stray from the origins a bit ("Youtube" Up Mario Party, latest yumplikes kinda more or less play like unpolished chocolate hacks)

As for there being another YUMP, as a member I've not heard of any plans.

Keyboards, well I kinda exclusively play SMW with keyboard unless L/R are used extensively.

(rip my other userbars momentarily)

I appreciate the chaotic structure of the OP
It's easily the best thing I've done
So why the empty numb?
The sequel should be called DUMP

This hack, a hack which doesn't take itself very seriously. It also has got a successor.
