What was your weirdest source of inspiration for a custom level?

Mine was Designing For's DKC videos, and I tried to remake Bramble Scramble but in SMW's style.
Back of My Eyelids was inspired by the short story The Library of Babel, by Jorge Luis Borges.
GANYMEDE

Chapter Two: Land of No Shame
My CLDC 2018 entry, Vera Bounce!, was inspired by a bottle of aloe vera gel in my fridge. I distinctly remember thinking it looked like something Mario would bounce on, and the rest kinda just fell into place in my mind.
What is a Lunar Magic, and can I eat it?
BadLDC and QLDC definitely have some wild inspirations, but I'll only call out one of them.

"Do NOT Press The Yellow Switch" was inspired by the game Don't Push The Red Button (which I discovered through Mark), right down to some of the gags.

(rip my other userbars momentarily)

I don't think I've had any particularly weird sources of inspiration for levels, though I've had a few instances of the inspiration for something being from a source that you wouldn't think anyone would relate to a Mario game. One of the first sprites I ever coded was inspired by Spy Kids 3, I've been wanting for a while to make a joke hack inspired by the Un-sets of Magic: The Gathering, and there's a gimmick in the level I'm making right now that's inspired by a particular level element in the Kroz games.

I'm working on a hack! Check it out here. Progress: 64/95 levels.
Boobs.
My layout has removed you.
One level in the sole hack I released was inspired by mega-corporation consumerism. Fortress level, "Bowser-Mart TM" offers some great speshells.
it was literally a mountain of dung lmao
Practicing level design... with the keyboard malfunctioning
There's this level, from TEN, which was heavily inspired by Transformers G1.
