Final level proposition: Bowser's Castle

Uhm, I want to say a 'watch out' concerning very long levels.

I mean, it's very easy to get 'caught up' in this sense of escalation, but I reckon there were some complaints that the asmt 'final castle' felt too long for some people, and this sounds like it'll be even longer since most of the content would be mandatory, rather then optional.

Personaly I don't mind, if y'all can keep the momemtum going, but it's still something to keep in mind!
KCC wasn't really that long. The only reason it seemed long is because you did all eight paths, whereas a typical player would only do two -> midway -> Windows room -> B/R room -> boss. Yes, I probably would have thrown another midway right before the two bosses, but in the grand scheme of things, I've seen bigger levels.

That's why we want the multiple midway system, so it can be beaten without save-states. There should be enough variation that it won't get boring, and enough new areas to keep the player interested in finishing it.

Also I have no idea what you two are going on about for the midpoints, but now you've got me interested~
I'd definitely like to participate in the final castle; I like designing near-endgame levels since I can go all out pretty much. There hasn't been a way for me to participate in this thing yet, and I really want to be a part of it.

I'd also be willing to do a section of this if possible. I'm going to try and get at least one of my levels done before C3, so I can do the other stuff between then and June.

Wow, sounds like a very nice idea. I for one have a nac (a vibe) for creating final levels, as most people may know. One thing is the fact that I get carried away with it and it gets too long and maybe tedious. The design at first is sensible and puzzling, then it soon gets to just action and stuff.

Otherwise, I really love the idea and would like to contribute to this project at some point, and one of the better ways is level design. I can't just stay on my own projects for the whole time I'm here...
I would TOTALLY be down for doing a room considering hard levels with WACKY HIJINX is what i do best haha
I would also love to contribute to SMWCP, as I've missed it somehow.
But I have a question:
Will the level have to be castle-ish, or is it going to be something strange, where just everything is mixed up?

I just ask, because I have a little tileset ripped for sections like that, but don't need it for my hack, so I thought of giving it to ASMWCP.

Yeah. Parts of it will be rather wacky/void-like/surreal. FP already has the "green" portions covered on my diagram, but we do not have a tileset for the "purple" areas yet.
Okay, void like BG. I'd be happy to make one, all I need is a good discription of what it would look like. I've already made a void like test background before for Sniggerb0bble, but I believe I could make a much better one than that.

So, if anybody hasn't claimed the BG, then allow me to make it. Just provide a detailed description. (If it going to be ripped, then forget about my offer)

That could actually work somewhere in the last area for sure. I agree that it needs a more interesting BG, but the FG could probably be used at a few points.
