If you don't apply those modifications (and set slots 3 and 4 to 007F), the first method (BG4+BG5) will glitch up due to the layer 3 GFX being uploaded over the layer 1 tilemap. Try clicking the quote link on the post to get the code, if copy+pasting from the code boxes doesn't exactly work correctly (I know it won't work for me)
Also, here's a screenshot of a BG that I always thought would be a nice addition to my ice world, but couldn't actually rip it until now
Uses 698 tiles (and 430 map16 tiles) and it's not extremely realistic
...on side note, I almost forgot I had this (I made it with the unreleased LM1.6x version of the REMAP.asm patch)
