Yoshiatom's Post
I hope I put this in right place but, Whats the difference between a
kazio hack and a pit hack?

By the way... what are the basics to TASing?

A Kaizo hack is just a hard game, with traps and everything. It's possible to beat it without savestates. (Kaizo Mario World)
A Pit hack is... harder than a Kaizo hack, it needs glitches of the game to be beaten, and pretty much impossible without tools or savestates. (Pit of Death)

And... I think there's a video about how to TAS. Here.

EDIT: Also, you should check SMWUnplugged YouTube channel.

If you think about it, if the hack is possible to do with savestates, it would be possible to do without savestates; but yes.

Pit levels generally have similar level designs as well.
One important difference is the amount of frame perfect tricks and difficult glitches used. Pit levels require a bunch of frame perfect and pixel perfect tricks and glitches in quick succession, requiring a level of mastery, while Kaizo hacks don't require them very often, if at all.

The original kaizo could be done savestateless, but that is no longer the basis for kaizo hacks. nowdays kaizo hacks are mainly done with savestates, and pit hacks are done with slowdown.

Required glitches and pit hacks aren't mutually exclusive, guys. It's perfectly plausible for pit hacks to not require a single glitch.

Quite true. Aside from a small bit of P-switch/key jumping, neither Pit of Death nor Pit of Despair abused glitches. Pit hacks are more about just having constricted action, where you don't have a lot of space to move.

Not sure, but I think pit hacks are the ones where you have to carry a shell and jump on it a lot through a whole level.

Not just that, it requires a lot of slowdown and has some insane aspects, like P-switch jumping.

Also, is an "edge" hack now an official sub-genre? Or it is just a joke between various tas-ers?

I would assume kaizo hacks to be just difficult levels, savestates highly advised, harder kaizo hacks may need slowdown in some points.

Pit hacks are generally played with slowdown on all the time, possibly requiring frame advance at a few points, several savestates are a must.

Edge hacks, if an actual genre, seem to push the limits of the game and what frame advance can do. Most notable aspects would be the use of shelljumping repeatedly across a floor of munchers before hitting the ground, difficult midair block duplication, and keysurfing (grabbing and letting go every other frame)

An "edge" genre was considered when Living On The Edge came out (to describe a hack nigh impossible without frame advance), though due to a lack of hacks that followed that idea, it never really spread, and more commonly used to joke about the difficulty of a hack.
