I hadn't been thinking too hard about the Mosts, dang. Now I'm not sure who to vote for which categories. I'll start off small and probably slow build up votes over time.

Samantha: I would rather be ignored or forgotten than outright insulted, and I think most people would agree with that mentality for the most part. Those categories were probably removed to not hurt people's feelings (except the most missed category, which I think was removed for other reasons IIRC)

Really though? From my experience the negative categories never "rewarded" or encouraged bad users to continue being assholes, in fact they generally made the user who earned them to get angry or pissy with the community for being so rude with them instead, and that usually caused lots of shitstorms. I'm 100% sure that's the reason they were removed in the first place because I don't remember there ever being a user who legit felt "good" or "rewarded" for earning a most in a negative category.

You're definitely right about people winning negative categories causing a shitstorm, which is likely a large part of the reason why negative categories were removed. But there were also users who didn't make a fuss about it and continued being shitty users. It wasn't an overt reward for being a shitty users, and I don't think anyone would be a bad user just so they could get a measly digital trophy on a website, but I think removing the categories altogether mitigates some of the shittiness. After all, I don't see a lot of the kinds of people who would win Rudest trophies around anymore.
Hey I know I'm not really gonna win anything so I'd like to say thanks to the four of you who voted for me. <3
It really means a lot that you'd consider me for best graphics even though I barely interact with the community.
See you next C3!

how am i supposed to win anything with the negative categories all removed, unfair :(

I do agree with what you're saying about negative awards causing problems, Maxodex; if anyone was given an award in relation to a bad quality, then it would be natural to get angry or frustrated over it. But I do think there is more to the removal of negative categories than just simply to prevent a user from bursting in anger. To start, Samantha's point that users will continue being negative if they're rewarded for it does apply if they're just trying to get more badges. I know from personal experience that most newcomers will try to snag a badge to try and look sophisticated or experienced- especially when it comes to large contests like VLDC or CLDC. So if there was a badge reward for being the rudest or most negative, then these people would very likely remain rude or negative just because they can get a badge for it; this especially applies for the 'Biggest Pervert' and 'Rudest' categories.

Additionally, some negative categories may have been removed because of certain events on the site that occurred. For example, the category 'Most Missed' has been recently removed because of the death or eXcavator that happened during 2016; because of the user's death, the category's meaning suddenly changed from well-known users who have been gone for a long time to users who have died or who are deceased; as a result, it was decided that the category would be omitted from every Mosts event after Winter 2018.

Overall, the main point that I'm trying to say here is the removal of the negative categories may be the result of multiple issues that came up because of them, rather than just one outcome. So by removing these categories, these issues can be mitigated or avoided- allowing the Mosts to be a more comfortable and friendly event for users.

That's all that I can write for now. I would love to discuss this topic some more, but I have been writing this post for a while and I need to get things done. It's interesting to talk about the history of the Mosts since a lot has changed since the event's reveal in Winter 2007. I hope this topic could be discussed further, and that we could see how we can make this event better in the future. Anyways, I'll see you later, and I hope you guys have a good day!

Adios! #smw{:peace:}
forgot to come back in november and reinsert myself into the community and rake in the mosts votes

better luck next year!

I haven't started my votes yet, oops.

dang category 50 is gonna be nice. time to see if people still remember me
No need to elaborate on the topic if people is fine with the categories, I guess, I don't want to annoy if I'm the only one discussing it.

But on a more important note (yes, it's more important this time): historically the Mosts have been a kind of event that doesn't let people vote for themselves for obvious reasons, but has this been considered for the resources voting categories? Specifically, I've seen some people who voted JUMP1/2 as best hack, which are people who actually worked in the hack, isn't that technically "against the rules"? I guess it's a tricky thing because they're not listed as "authors" themselves (as Lazy or lolyoshi), but part of the JUMP team group instead, but it still seems "not ethic" for me.

You could disable holiday/display names for the time being in edit profile.

Yes, but I meant only in the voting page, that would disable them in the entire site.
personally, i voted for jump1/2 despite being a member of jump team because of the 130 exits the hack has, i was responsible for 3 - one of which was a level i did with someone else. along with that, i was not part of the final playtesting, and the hack's conception predated me. also, i kickstarted yump and then led mice during it, so if anything i was partially responsible for jump1/2 Not Coming Out On Time

but i totally get how it can feel iffy. i'll rescind my vote for it just so stuff feels Fair

If you took out all my efforts in the hack, that doesn't even make up 1% of the whole project. All I did was create Brain Plague, and I don't even really consider "The Trap Doors" as my own level despite me starting it and having some ideas leftover from when I worked on it (it's mostly ft in the grand scheme of things). That's why I voted for it.

Now if it was JUMP, where I contributed to 6 levels, a few of the castle destruction cutscenes, and basically helped with Stattered Dreams with the hub rooms, then I can see me voting for it an issue. But I don't feel like my contributions to JUMP 1/2 are big enough for my vote to be bias.

Yea, it's hard to say. I'm even aware that the hack had some guests (people who isn't part of the original JUMP team). So I guess it's fine, after all (but weird).

Not gonna lie, the mosts feels too way different every year, compared to what they used to be years ago. Personally I feel that some categories are missed (pun intended), especially some ones that used to be very iconic, but somehow got scrapped. But apparently people is fine with this, so nothing much else to say.

The mosts didn't really have that stark of a difference until last year when the negative categories were removed, which yeah some of said categories were iconic but the community is better off with them removed. The negative categories gave some users () an excuse to remain shitty users because they could be rewarded for it with a most (most likely to x before becoming staff, rudest, etc). Being a rude user should not be rewarded, and neither should any other category that paints a user in a negative light. Plus it mitigates a lot of the drama the mosts had in previous years as well.

Also, I noticed that, while votes show regular usernames, the voters are still displayed under holidays names in the post sidebar, is there a chance to change that? or am I the only one who find it weird?

Eh, I didn't think anything of it personally.

I think negative categories make me feel a bit better. I don't know why, but it should be come back for Mosts 2020.

Nearly all the "negative" categories, since it is what keeps me upright on this site. And the "most unlikely to be missed" category because why not?

Also I hate you all for not voting for me, and I hope you feel better for doing this. Because being voted for negative category is far better than positive all the time.

why no work
You barely show up on the site at all and you want to remain relevant by begging for us to vote for you? And what are the benefits (for you) of voting for negative categories other than "improvement"?

To make myself feel better since I'm disgraced from this site, and Mosts 2019 is no fun if there are no negative categories.

some negative categories like snarkiest, most immature or most pessimistic weren't that bad to me but honestly this one is just being a huge asshole

Just made it. Didn't think too much of Mosts before they started this year so some more deserved votes might be missing. May add a few more votes, though.

I'm disappointed by the fact I didn't get voted too much in categories I deserved, specifically Least likely to do anything. I highly doubt I'll win something this year cuz I mostly dabble on forums and I don't often talk on Discord.
I have a Discord server as well!

Back to working on my VLDC12 level!
