Winner:

Progger - Dystopia [10 - 2]

Final Results

And that's all! The thread will remain open for the next few days if you'd like to discuss anything, such as which songs you liked the most!

I'll start saying that both finalists were really good. Simoon is a very unique and exotic song, while Dystopia was consistently great. Both go a lot of places too.

The Last Flamenco was another one that I really liked, although for more personal reasons: it sounds like it came from Ragnarok Online, which has one of my favorite video game soundtracks. Similarly, I loved [snowdrift] and how it sounds like a Professor Layton track.

This was the first time I picked a Beethoven track to listen to fully and honestly, it was a pleasant surprise. Despite being 20 minutes long, I never got bored listening to it. It was beautiful from beginning to end and it's no wonder pieces like this one are considered timeless.

I'm happy at how far Twilight got. It's one of the greatest songs I listened to and I definitely think it's one of ELO's most underrated tracks.

Now, for something else:

WHAT WE LEARNED IN THIS TOURNEY:

- Artist's name ends with "Orchestra" = Automatic banger.
- We need more buff songs to shake up the Jazz Fusion meta.
- Cute J-Pop songs are viable and will beat your rad western rock and metal. Nothing to do but accept that deep inside we're all weebs and want to be anime. Except me, I'll destroy all anime but hxh and jojo.
- Actually, it seems that Pop in general was a really... POPular choice this tourney, hahahaaduhasjudhf ded
- Borderline VGM is viable in Non-VGM.
#wario{>:|}

- Singers might as well retire since 99% of these didn't have any lyrics, lol rip.
What I learned this tourney is to listen to more niche music. Two of my choices were apparently extremely popular songs and I regret nominating those now. Picking 3 songs is really a lot more difficult than it seems.

Basically, I believe in peace and bashing two bricks together.

There were times I was infuriated about the popular choice, when my favourite songs lost a battle. Actually I don't remember it all.

For example the multiple battles won by Nightwish were pretty good battles and I'd always give a chance to the challenger, although I love Nightwish.

Pretty sad my entries didn't make it through, at least you guys chose the Causa Sui song for quite a while. I love this song very much.

I was surprised about some tastes, there were some popular songs I instantly disliked, some fair battles with niche stuff. Hell, there even was some breakcore featured! But I didn't like it actually haha.

For what it's worth, I collected all the tracks in a youtube playlist, in case you want to think about all the good moments on SMWC.
I feel like these tourneys should happen more frequently than they usually do, since they're always a really great way to get new music recommendations from people. (Though maybe there should be a rule of course to prevent people from nominating songs that have already won past tourneys).

Tbh, I still feel like a lot of my entries were kind of unfairly judged, but I'm still happy that something that wasn't boring ended up winning in the end at least

My favorite song from this is still probably just the Sacred Tapestry entry tho, everything else was fine, but I feel like that was the one that resonated with me more; also yeah, the jazz fusion songs were neat as hell, but there was way too damn many of them this time, like what the heck LOL

(also uh, unrelated, but I've actually not listened to Progger - Dystopia until the very end of this tourney lol; really surprised at how much of a banger it was haha)

glad you liked it!
Acoustic Alchemy is a band my dad listens to all the time so I thought it would be interesting to see how it would fare here, and I'm surprised how far it got to be honest. I had no idea it would sound VGM-ish to some lol

A lot of my votes ended up in my favor this tourney; I loved the top 2 nominations.

OH RIGHT I also loved that Venetian Snares nomination, despite how niche it is and how I wasn't able to vote for it. Listened to a bunch of their songs and I dig them.

Ah yes, that's an idea I had but didn't throw it around to see if anyone would be up for it. ^^;

Thank you for taking your time to compile them, I'll put up a link in the first post so it's easily accessible in the future!
I've learned that I should listen to more... "out of the ordinary" songs than the ones I've gotten sick of listening to. I didn't get the time and energy to vote for the last few rounds (didn't listen to the winner, mind you), but I hopefully might not be lazy for once!

But i'm already waifu material. :/

This was, in the end, a fun contest. Two of my entries were legit (80' J-Pop is kinda cool) but the Ragatanga one was just a joke (and somehow won a round). Finding out what other people like to listen was great, too.
Exclusive content and nostalgia!
My only serious entry was the Daft Punk one the other one (It burns burns burns) was just a simple joke lol

This tourney was a blast, even if i stopped to vote since a moment

thanks :P

maybe I might nominate something else from them sometime later honestly; was actually thinking if Frictional Nevada would be better to nominate for this contest instead, but I wanted to nominate songs that didn't take too long to get to the "meat" of the whole thing I suppose (also why I didn't straight up nominate Hajnal either lol)

From this tourney I learned that doing something like this is actually very fun! Just having these songs battle against each other to see which is the better bop was invigorating, especially around the second half of the tourney, where things got more intense as the rounds went on. I'd love for this contest to run its course again in the near future.

I also learned that the users in this community have an astounding taste in music! A lot of the ones I voted for were absolute ear candy to me, such as Celeste, Animal, Matsuri-Bayashi, An Insatiable High, 移住, Temporal Parallax, and the finalists, among others. It seems that I've got to play catch-up with my list of favorite songs now.

Oh hey, this playlist is super convenient! It can definitely act as a trip down memory lane considering this tourney started almost three months ago?! Where did the time go during all this?
What is a Lunar Magic, and can I eat it?
