When we polled the userbase earlier this year about what contests they'd like to see again, the Automatic Contest was one of the least popular choices. It's something I'd like to see again, but it doesn't make sense for us to host a big one when it seems like there's very little interest.
I have an idea, maybe it's terrible, maybe it's been done before.
A title screen design contest (whatever name). Where you can't edit the title screen movement, but you have to create around the vanilla movements.
It was an idea for a 24hoSMW contest. Wouldn't mind such a contest happening again, though.
Wasn't that the one where the point was to make a title screen using Mario's default movements tho? It would be kinda rad to just have a straight up custom title screen level contest.

We're thinking of pushing VLDC12 to August to both let people have a moment to breathe after C3, and to also give us a moment to breathe after C3 to finish planning it. I'll update the calendar once we've decided on that for good.
That was my guess but I wanted to be sure. They PMed me about it with a better explanation.
We're shorting VLDC12 to 4 weeks + a couple days because we firmly believe, based on what we saw last year and with contests since, that there's little reason for the contest to last 6-7 weeks again. We saw most people excited to work on their level for a couple days at the start, and then very little activity until the final days, at which many people begged for an extension because they'd put off working on their level. Older VLDCs had submission periods of 3-4 weeks, and we believe we can return to contest durations like those while still having a good turnout.
