Making a semi functional Sonic?

I'm very new to hacking, I just recently finished doing a sort of practice run by modifying the base SMW game with music and graphics and few other bits and pieces here, I was happy with the final result, though there are still some unfortunate bugs I couldn't iron out.

So I wanted to move on to something else... one of my favorite things the Sonic the Hedgehog hacking community does is retroactively adding new characters into the older games with all their old abilities in working order. I'm sure this isn't a very original idea but I want to bring Sonic to Super Mario World, first just putting him in a slightly modified version of a base game, the I want to make a new hack with different layouts and call it Sonic for SNES. ( sure would be better than that weird Speedy Gonzales Hack, eh? )



What i've got so far

-SMW Style Sonic by Kusamochi
-Sonic style powerdown patch by RPG hacker ( so that his health is based on if he has a coin or not and he loses coins if hit )
-All inclusive Mario Physics Modifier by Thomas set Sonic to run at a higher speed while still being managable
-Slide Attack by HuFlungDu and MajorFlare to simulate the rolling attack


And here's what I need help with
-I'd like Sonic to slide a little farther when doing the slide attack
-Coins to spill when Sonic is hit, nothing that would cause slowdown, like maybe 3 or 4 coins, or even 1 since that's how it was in the 8 bit games
-Simulate Sonic's jump attack
-Change jumping and sliding sprite into a ball
-Remove ability to swim, instead move like normal in water, but slower. Possibly add an air timer?
-remove flashing when doing the slide attack
-New title screen ( the physics cause the old one to crash if you don't press start anyway )
-Maybe set him to always be running so he controls more like Sonic, without needing a run button? As long as it doesn't come with a weird side effect like he can't drop any items he grabs.

Not worried about the spindash, he didn't have it in Sonic 1 anyway, and i'm probably going to remove power-ups and Yoshi while making adjustments to levels that need them.

I hope this is realistic for a beginner hacker like me.
I don't think i'm being delusional, I don't expect a 1:1 conversion of Sega Genesis Sonic to the Super Mario World Engine or anything. That's not what I'm aiming for. I just thought it would be a fun novelty to get to play through SMW as Sonic.
