Pennington's office - Found something suspicious? Report it here! (also AMA)

I have to admit solving this case is harder than I expected. With no leading evidence, mysteries can take days to be solved. I will be setting my own office here to rest and analyze the situation.

While I'm at it, allow me to tell you a secret about crime investigation. A master detective's best ally is not his coat or his magnifying glass, it's you, the witness. This is why, I, the world-famous Pennington, will ask for your assistance again.

If you see, hear, or otherwise learn about anything remotely suspicious, report it here without hesitation. Together we can solve this mystery and restore Toadette's banner to its former colorful glory!

Oh, and I see those "ask me anything" thingies are getting popular. I am sure you all want to know about my mystery-solving career, so feel free to ask anything too!
Have you seen this Banzai Bill-der person? They appeared out of the nowhere after the colors were stolen, looks suspicious to me.

I think it is safe to say The Magician didn't do it. You're right about that. He admits to having no real power either. Although the whole DLS member thing does seem suspicious.

I had an agent track him into his so called portal and it looks like many members are part of this "DLS". Including System, Chester, and of course The Magician.

Whomever is part of this group had access. I can't see the group myself as it looks hidden to even staff members. Alas, this is all the information I have at this time. But I was able to confirm that The Magician's claim that Chester was near was correct. But I doubt he did so.

Oh I also heard a rumor that System doesn't even use the default scheme of the site. Not sure if that helps in the investigation.

1 year ago we had a very mysterious thread about the "mysteries of the P-Switch at the bottom of smwc's menu to be solved"
Might this colour stealing thing be an unexpected revenge?

Thank you for helping with the investigation. With your support, I could finally come up with a list of suspects:

The Magician:
Claims being the one behind the incident. Has rainbow magical powers.

Banzai Bill-der
Was seen near the banner shortly after the colors were stolen.

Chester
Is part of the DLS team that has access to the banner archives.

System
Also, part of the DLS team. Is very eager to blame Chester, very suspicious, is she trying to hide something?

I will interrogate the suspects, and report back if I find anything.
Could have sworn I saw some shy guy looking creature sneaking behind the banner just now! #tb{O_O} #tb{O_O} #tb{O_O}! They don't seem like someone who can access the staff area though, and their mask was covered with what looks like a red herring, so don't worry about it, it's probably fine.

@AMA: any relation to Jeffrey Pennington, whose work is cited in a paper I should be reading for homework right this moment?

The identity of the monster responsible for this is Red Herring!

Jokes aside, I do wonder about that strange entity. Maybe just a distraction?

Ladies and gentlemen,
Boys and girls,
Humans, sentient machines, goombas, and whatever floats your current boat,

I have decided to deliver you your first clue to the location of the color.

If you look to the past, a key is still there at last. The key only locks, it fits into rocks. Don't forget your socks, because you need to travel the blocks.
You really gonna let magic boy lie to you? Book Chester already, man.
I have interrogated Banzai Bill-der. He claims he has nothing to do with the incident and is looking for a lost employee. He denied said employee being the Slurp Bandit claiming none of his employees wear masks over their masks.

Now, I know you are impatient for the interrogation of Slurp Bandit, but I have been unable to contact him. He locked himself in the banner room and I cannot access it. In the meanwhile, I will interrogate the other suspects.

Chester is next in my list. I will contact him soon.

I wish I had time to solve this, but I must proceed with the suspect interrogation. Would anyone be so kind to look at it for me?

You mean the Jeffrey Pennington who's a researcher in particle physics, or the one who is doctor in philosophy? Well, I am not related to any of them, I am a penguin, I don't have any human relatives.

I guess if no one else can figure it out, I can give it a shot.

Okay, so the first key words here are: past, key, last
Then: key, locks, rocks
Lastly: socks, travel, blocks

Key is mentioned the most. So that is the target. So something in the past that is last is the key?

The lock is possibly within some rocks? Not as sure about this one.

I thick socks is just a word to throw people off, but we do need to travel somewhere where there's blocks. Unfortunately the Mushroom Kingdom tends to have plenty of those.

This is all I can figure out at this time. It might not even mean anything.

Maybe it's referring to a SMW level. Im not sure which one though.
Maybe it refers to BOWSER'S VALLEY 2's secret exit? That one has a lot of rock blocks there, the secret exit lock also is between a lot of cement blocks y'know

(do you have any fake garnet stars left at poshley sanctum?)

I have bad news. Neither System and Chester have useful information. All I learned was that both were away from the banner when the incident took place, making both of them innocent. Despite this System still insists on blaming Chester, half of her responses during the interrogation were variations of "Chester did it".

I will be traveling to the Valley of Bowser tomorrow as that is the only clue I have now. Thank you Scrydan, Ruberjig and LMPuny for solving that one.
