oh shit its c3 and i have nothing finished to show.
well don't you folks worry im here to show stuff anyway, even though 90% of it is either one-off garbage or for my hack (gasp)
open world?? hack stuff: Show/Hide
i'd like to preface this with these are all WIPs in this tab, and please don't use them without permission (aka don't use them at all please)
so this is kind of on my back burner but i figured i'll show a little bit of what i have. this became a thing halfway through the overworld contest, with world designs mostly planned out during it, the submaps weren't worked on 'till after the contest though.
you play as a weird bird and that's kind of as far as i got for main story oops
stuff from my world map plans: Show/Hide
world 1 - Sky - Oranges/very light blues
The outer wall. Large structures dominate it, such as massive supports and pipes. Few city elements, mostly coolant and connections to the info relay structures and antennae. Also functions as water drainage.
world 2 - Wooded Enclosure - Forest - dull reds
The outer, "rural" edge of the complex. Many pine-like trees dominate the area, with short grasses and plants growing around. To the south west is (SKY ZONE). The closer you get to the edge of this region, the less plant life there is and the more relay structures + supports.
Centerpiece: Support Tower
The farthest south, almost connecting directly to the larger relay structures. Few trees appear, with mostly bare metal ground and machinery. Acts as a connection point for one of the largest relay structure, with chains and wires supporting it from the large tower.
Centerpiece: One of the Big Turbines
The real forest starts here, the ground mostly consisting of stone rather than metal. Some small homes are built into the few, turbine-like metal structures that are scattered around the area. The grass grows well here, digging into the stone and soil.
Centerpiece: Radar Tower
A mix of concrete bases and metal, this has many small radar towers dotting the area, with smaller relay units next to them. In the thick of the forest, it's somewhat darker and has lights dotting the area. Near the large radar, a tunnel system spans bellow the concrete grounds.
Centerpiece: Lookout Tower?
The underground tunnels beneath this part of the complex. Cave-ins and crumbling architecture define this place, with many pipes are plentiful. Small ponds can be found, with more lights. A small bit of the tunnels lead above ground once more, leading to a lookout tower of sorts.
Centerpiece: Crumbling Building
A dark, quiet place. Built into the looming walls, and overgrown with fauna. The only way into this place is the tunnels, seemingly surrounded by toppled walls and buildings. Considered a dead-end, going higher into the fortress leads to a beautiful view above the forest.
Hidden in the darkest parts, is a odd, peaceful shaman.
Centerpiece: Support Tower 2
A low-set "clearing" of the forest. Lots of fences surround the spot, with lights scattered around. The large antenna has many supports and relays built into the ground, and "warning" flags can be seen hanging, blowing in the wind.
---ACC COMMS 1
Centerpiece: The top of it.
The bulk of the antenna itself, still active and in use seemingly.
world 3 - The Underbelly - weird machinery - Green/white
The dark, mechanical parts of the complex. Seemingly spanning beneath large parts of it, the far left serves as a connecting point to the Comms. to the rest of the facility. The available maintenance pathways wind and twist through the machinery, some paths even going through it all. Mostly clean, minus some rusting parts. | The lower part of the underbelly, the darkest it gets. The paths down here are perilous, with seemingly endless falls.
world 4 - Hushed Suburb - desert/plains - Yellow-greens
The greenest grass this side of [ZONE]. Tall grass and rocky, mesa-like outcroppings among the few built buildings make up this bright area. There's a ton of left-over construction equipment, seemingly left mid-construction. The far west end of the area is just dusty, abandoned desert with barely anything to it but shrubs. The whole area could be considered costal, due to how close it is to the "ocean."
world 5 - Drowned Complex - fully underwater zone - purples/greens
The sunken part of the world, one of the surprisingly more lively places. Noticeably different from the rest of the world. Quite literally a sunken city, you'll find a large variety of odd creatures down here. outside of the waterproofed buildings and glass hallways, is the dark yet beautiful sea. Glowing plant life and coral is numerous, as it slowly takes over the city.
world 6 - dark water - black and blues/greens*
world 7 - Lowrise Aerie - Sky/light snow - orange/reds, light blues/pale colours
The frozen, bitter construction zone and communications hub. Full of left-over constructs and towers from building the comms, little vegetation grows in this place. Silent and frozen, you'll be going through perilous pitfalls similar to that of [WORLD 1]. The only hazards you'll find here is mostly due to the structures themselves, and a lacking amount of foes.
world 8 - pristine maze - whites/teals *
world 9 - Inside/HEAVY/ snow/desert - deep blues *
world 10 - City Block 5 - ruins/fire - tan/black
world 11 - Noble Heights - mega jungle - Purples
world 12 - corrupted heart - black and blues *
anything with an asterisk is a WIP/unfinished

This is so cool! It's a lot to read through but it's worth it to get a grasp on what kind of vision you have for a really interesting world. The little snippets you got there of tilesets is really cool looking as well as the sprites. They're giving me a very unique and also somewhat grim/creepy vibe (what is definetly a good thing!).
Sadly cannot say anything about the rainworld stuff other then that it's looking really cool! You are really good with rustic palettes that are pleasant to look at, in both the rainworld stuff and your hack stuff.

I love Rain World so seeing anything Rain World related is instantly amazing.
Really liking that dark and ominous looking area.
It's stunningly creepy.
Looking forward to seeing more of this and from your future projects.

I LOVE THE KOOPA SNAKE GUYS THEY ARE THE BEST.
All of this looks insane, like, absurdly good.
I don't have anything much to say but I want people TO LOOK AT THESE THINGS BECAUSE THEY ARE SO GOOD!!!!!!

P much all of what I see is real good. Wish you had like, more support on this because you really are a rather skilled artist.
On Pixel Art Requests: I generally
accept free work unless I either have the time, if I see your project worth my time to contribute towards, and that is usually me doing the approaching to you on that second part. I do not accept speculative work as I do have various art I made on-hand with me. I am more receptive to paid work and equivalent exchange of resources (trades) in which case, you can DM me wherever I have an active presence on for the details and we can work something out. If not, then don't DM unless absolutely necessary.

I have to agree on anything said above. All of this is pretty cool and especially your art is outstanding. These rips are absolutely excellent.
I really hope you can fulfill your plans. I wonder how great this hack from you would be

The quality, variety, and level of detail on display here is astounding.

You artist types always fascinate me. To view the progression of the gameplay experience in terms of "oranges/blues, dull reds, green/white" as opposed to "grassland, cave, forest"... It's not something I'd ever come up with in a thousand years, and it's intriguing to see someone work who has the intuition to set it up this way. There's also something to be said for a game whose environmental descriptions use words like "relay" more than they use words like "cave". Your appreciation of games like Ecco the Dolphin is apparent (
). so don't forget to include your homage to that literal 7+ minute slooooowly autoscrolling maze level
This might be an odd question (and I know you're just starting out and all), but how much text are you planning on using in this game? For whatever reason I get the impression that this hack of yours will make its impact with a strongly built mood rather than an extensive narrative. Either way, while I hope this project turns out to be everything you're aiming for it to be, I think you'll come away from it learning a ton if you get through even a quarter of what you have planned.
I'm afraid I've little else to say, other than that you're a talented artist and that Blargg in particular is very well done. Keep fighting the good fight!
