Any misconduct and conflict-of-interest that involves a breach in private data confidentiality is an unacceptably reckless abuse of power. Even though this particular incident had minor consequences, the potential for major consequences need to be focused on. As such, I think that the punishment should be based off the potential harm rather than the actual harm. If an engineer knowingly builds a bridge with faulty materials but no one is hurt, that engineer will be punished as if the bridge collapsed and causes injury. The same concept should be applied here.

I believe that your administrative powers should be stripped indefinitely. Your role is to make decisions in the best interests of the SMW community. Your selfishness and recklessness to sell personal info online violates this trust, and violates the sole reason for being an admin in the first place. It doesn't help that the tone of your apology attempts to downplay the magnitude of this; i.e., "even though no one was harmed."

Thank you for reading.

One problem with your argument though. Using your engineer example: the engineer would be punished strictly for what could've happened on the bridge, not for the possibility that they instead made 10 buildings with a faulty structure design with the potential of killing thousands under their credentials. Point is: if Nameless should face punishment, it should strictly be for the potential consequences that could follow leaking a user's staff log to themselves, because if she was requested to leak another user's log instead or do anything worse, the bigger consequences of a dirtier deed could've weighed in to the point of she declining the request entirely and nothing happening.
Yeah, I think the fact she sold information she was aware presented no harm to anyone or anything should be accounted for. It doesn't mean she would sell someone's, say, IP address for harmful purposes.
So keep things not so out of proportion here.

Tbh, I didn't want to say jack shit in this thread since it's all just pointless drama that ultimately amounts to nothing, but I'll just say this: if the whole thing is really this problematic, the easiest option would be to just shaft Nameless out from the admin/staff position. I, myself, feel that it's a completely pointless thing to be arguing about, but if that's what makes people happy then I don't think I (and frankly anyone else) really give(s) a shit; just be warned tho that it's not exactly the best solution to the problem, and would ultimately cause tons of other problems, but that's what most peeps want here, not me, so not much I can do about that. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Let's be honest here. A disproportionate amount of people are perpetually on the lookout for an excuse to point fingers, get on their high-horse, and/or expel their pent up toxicity onto whomever may serve as their next outlet. This community and situation both are far from any exception.

I also wonder how many of you casting stones have done shitty things that you wouldn't even dare have the guts to admit publicly of your own accord. How many of you would take it to the grave unless somehow caught, prompting you to make your little public apology, under no other circumstances than simply having been already found out, in an attempt to hastily patch together your shattered reputation?

Nameless chose to own up to her mistake (a mistake which btw, doesn't involve really that sensitive of data tbh) and for that, is probably twice the person a good chunk of you stone throwers will ever be.

The mistake was a mistake, sure, but for Nameless' integrity in coming forward with it, I have a lot of respect for her. Most of you wouldn't dream of having the same level of said integrity.

Some of the people casting stones here are EXACTLY who I would expect to jump at such a chance based on the character they've displayed in the past. To be quite frank, some of your are simply taking advantage of Nameless' position of vulnerability, just because it's another opportunity to act holier-than-thou and boost your pathetic little egos. For that, you should be ashamed of yourselves.

Absolutely agree IMO.

I don't want to repeat what everyone's already said, but I feel like this really isn't as serious as y'all are making it out to be. Yeah, sure, there's the potential of more dangerous data being leaked by others afterwards, but uh... what fucking data would even remotely be important to leak for a site like this? I mean, come on, this shit's fucking ridiculous, even for this site

Not to mention Ladida was staff before so they were allowed access to UD threads by default, including a potential one about them.

when i was staff, there was no UD thread on me (or there was, but only a joke ban was logged). a new UD thread was started mid-april 2017, a few years after i left staff. i was never aware of the existence of said thread; i just assumed it existed at the time of transaction (due to my misadventures)

I told you so. Even back then.

This is what happens when people who are good at what they're supposed to do but can't behave like an adult and shitpost as much as they want, using biased schemes to force users to behave as they want, while they themselves are no better despite a particular talent.

What a joke. This site needs a new reboot already.

It was brought up because Ladida himself contacted idol a couple of days ago and mentioned that this had happened. idol presented it to the rest of the staff without any names attached, and nameless outed herself.

oh... yeah i didn't attach any names in my DM. then idol pinpointed it. i'm guessing in between the messages is when idol asked yall and nameless stepped forward.
i never intended on outing nameless or myself; i was just curious about the potential consequences of the situation

also the only reason i brought it up is because i found the images of the UD thread while cleaning my drive.

snitches get stitches
Meh, I know not everyone will be pleased with whatever happens at the end of the day, or with how I feel about this whole thing.

I can't blame any of you guys for expressing your hatred towards Nameless here because no matter what angle you look into this situation, it will always be considered a bad thing to do... to allow users to buy information just to profit from it. It's a scummy way to make money, and your essentially giving your customer data from the site. This better be the last time it happens, despite this turning out to being a really minor form of it. And if anything, the rally of people that are upset with Nameless's actions should be the wake-up slap that Nameless deserves to hear from the userbase. I'm gonna join them just to say this to you:
sorry, no lilligant for you no more :<

Now I did say that this turned out to be such a minor form of selling information, and I don't feel like reiterating those details, but the gist of it is that this was a thing that happened back in September of 2018. I didn't know Nameless well at all back then, but for the 14 months I've observed them, it really make me feel like this one incident just doesn't look like it's worth having Nameless step down. What I mean by this is that the positives outweigh the negatives, at least to me. We have this staff member that aside from their normal music moderation has done many things after this incident, such as:
• Came up with the idea to revamp the music section with re-moderation
• Hosted a 72h SPC contest
• Frequently checks and updates the music nomination thread
• Updated SMW music submission guidelines
• Created a thread that describes global sample omissions pretty accurately
• Gave input on ideas and users many times, even if they didn't have to (I would know they did this since I was staff)
• Got promoted to administrator

I might have missed more, but this is what I mean when I say the positives outweighs the negatives. I can't really think of how the staff, or even the entire music moderator team would manage without Nameless. This might be sounding biased as heck so some of you, but I'm really focusing on what's best for the site, and that is to keep Nameless on the staff team. I'm very certain that this whole profit shenanigans will never happen ever again. Like, 1.5 years ago passed by since then, and all this time, we've had someone put a lot of effort into maintaining a decent chunk of the site's database. They don't even seem like the kind of person that would even try to profit from the site anymore.

"Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."

To anyone who disagrees with me (which I can only assume are the people bashing Nameless): Are you guys legitimately uncomfortable with Nameless on the staff team right now? No one in this thread has said anything among the lines of feeling driven away or distanced from this site if things stay the same, and it's literally just outbursts or others begging for Nameless to go through the heats. They made an apology and admitted to their faults, plus anything that's getting thrown their way is going to haunt them. This is already enough heat if I say so myself. Bottom line is that I'm really not seeing how this one incident should just immediately disqualify Nameless from staff after what they've done.

I'm not gonna elaborate on how flat and senseless are the "it's just a mario website" or "this was one year ago" arguments are. It's not just that this is the first time I see a masively "usage" of such arguments to forgive/forget a situation, but it's more like, if that's the logic behind the site and its policies, we could actually unban literally every banned user, including the "forever" banned ones (assuming they would be regretful of their past acts of course, which as far as I know, at least one of them has).

But forget that shit, here's the important one:

There's something I want to make it clear (because it was apparently misunderstood because the way I worded it in my previous post) that I when I said Nameless deserved a "penalty" I didn't mean such a big one, like a ban or something. Just like most of the people here (even Samantha) thinks: strip away Nameless from her position (it doesn't even has to be permanently), because that's what normally people would expect to be done (again, replies in this thread demostrate it, despite the sides), at least it's what I would, considering both examples I gave.

But it's worth to be said that I won't be uncomfortable if she keeps her position, just a bit disappointed on how the admins handled the situation. I know Nameless has contributed a lot to this site. Actually I don't even think think anybody is against the forgiveness, not even the people who are adverse in this situation against her.

Speaking of that, I forgot to mention that, over all my adverse position, I'm still glad you actually recognized your error publicly. This goes to Ladida too, which has part of the guilt in this. Acknowledging mistakes is sure hard, and as someone said, not everyone has the courage to do it.
I think the worst thing that could be done is nothing.

No matter the circumstance, I think Nameless should be held accountable for her actions. Now, I dont think a ban, or a permanent boot off the staff is necessary, because thats not how you reward someone who's done a lot for the site. But something has to be done, regardless.

-----------

STELLA!
This has been open long enough.

While we appreciate everything Nameless has done while on the administration team, we ultimately cannot condone the exchange of staff information regarding the userbase for money. That being said - she's done exemplary work in the other facets of the site, and I especially second the first 5 points Giftshaven noted in their post here. As such, she will remain on the team as SMW Music Manager, but she will no longer be involved in user moderation.

For further inquiries, you can PM me or use the staff feedback function. Past that, this thread has served its' purpose, and will be closed. Thank you all for your input, and I apologize about the worries regarding staff information leaks this may have instilled. We will continue to work on making sure this site is the best it can be.
