Let's talk about the Coronavirus

If anyone here can get a hold of a face shield, I highly recommend it. Plastic seems more reliable in blocking droplets and not trapping filth and other germs that eventually pass through anyways, not weakening and decaying with use, and the structure of the shield lets you breathe far more cleanly. I have bad seasonal allergies and general anxiety, so masks had made it harder with all that (hot air, thicker air, less oxygen) to breathe through, and especially in humid weather. I also had to wear masks for 9+ hours a day and had bloody acne on my face for a long time because of it.

The only downside is the distortion of light with curved plastic is a bit dizzying and takes some getting used to.

Yah I found some really sleek looking ones, I feel better protected when I've gotta go indoors. I like them, they have a fashionable futuristic look to them and attach to your face with eyeglasses-like rims.

Apparently president Trump now has the virus.

He would have died soon if he's getting weaker. Thank god.

I also despise Trump, but let's not be so morbid here. Open death wishes upon anyone are not cool.
It's easily the best thing I've done
So why the empty numb?
I don't wish ill will on anyone, but I will hope that him catching COVID-19 sways the election against his favor. If Trump is reckless enough to catch COVID, that says something about our leader's dignity.

I'd go on a bigger rant, but I'd rather save that for another thread.

STELLA!
I don't think anyone is surprised this happened, but it's a big thing to be hospitalised with disease this close to an election.

Did you see his drive-by around the hospital?

These are strange times (overstated). I actually like the facemasks. People will adapt to anything and try to follow the path of least resistance if it means they at least get to do what they were doing before.

If we didn't do lock-down before getting to this level of restrictions, it may feel more strange and draconian, but since we went from full lockdown for 3 months, to gradually doing what we did before albeit one way systems, arrows, chevrons, hand sanitiser, facemasks, it feels like normality has returned.

But don't celebrate too soon. I've been reading on the BBC that it's a cold virus that survives better outside the body best at 4C. The lack of UV rays during winter will also help create ideal virus conditions. So do brace yourselves, because winter is coming and it may very well be pretty bad.

I had this doomsday theory that if we had lockdown during winter which prevented roads from being driven on, and then big snowfall that wasn't being melted away because there's less vehicles on the roads, we could have double disruption and it could really mess up daily life for many.

Is vitamin D an effective way to stop COVID-19?
Researchers say that calcifediol could reduce the severity of infection and lower the risk of complications.

2021 IS THE YEAR OF VACCINATION AGAINST COVID-19.

Are you ready to be vaccinated?
What do you think about the vaccination against COVID-19?
folks stay calm, the real cure for covid-19 may appear in 2021(
Ithink)
Do you have any reliable source for this piece of information, Roberto?

@Katerpie: I've read it on a couple of sites as well (though mostly German ones). Pfizer and BioNTech have developed a vaccine and applied for its approval in several places, and Britain has been the first place to give an emergency approval for this vaccine, which means it will start being used there very soon. Chance are high this will also happen in other places around the world eventually. If I remember correctly, this vaccine is claimed to have a success rate of around 90 to 95% (though I'm not sure what exactly this "succes rate" refers to - I think it's the chance of a vaccinated person not showing any symptoms after a virus infection or something like that).
Feel free to visit my website/blog - it's updated rarely, but it looks pretty cool!
Oh yes, I just read about Pfizer and BioNTech and how they developed a vaccine that was tested and approved. The sad news is that Brazil has no perspective of access to it so early because the way our government will buy immunization units hasn't been defined yet, despite the high success rate in other countries. So I am 100% sure we'll be far behind on that aspect.

The protection being ~95% means roughly the following: they tested on two groups, of which one got the real vaccine and the other got a placebo (a version with no effect) for reference, and of all the tested people who ended up getting infected, ~95% were those who got the placebo. [citation definitely needed]

Right now I think there are about 3 such vaccines pending approval, all promising protection over 90%. It'll be a while before the general public gets it (risk patients and essential workers obviously having priority), but it's great news, and I can't wait to leave the pandemic behind.

I felt somewhat sick yesterday, and the night before it was clear my immune system was busy fighting something. I'm almost completely fine now, which is great, but it's kind of left me wondering? It really shouldn't be COVID because I haven't left the place in ages, and the only people I could have gotten it from are my parents, who are both still healthy. But for the same reason it couldn't be anything else either, so uh. The doctor's office says I shouldn't worry about getting tested unless I still feel sick by Monday, which at this rate I won't, so that's that, but it's annoying not having certainty.

Of course other diseases still exist and are more likely than COVID, but I tend to be paranoid about things like these. Which is why I can't wait for a vaccine.

bf who works in the medical field says we should be cautious but optimistic about vaccines this early on, it's promising sure but there are different strains of the virus and it'll take some time before its "properly" tested among the general populous. We don't yet know about the side effects, how it'll effect certain people with certain conditions, etc. Before they administer it to general public they would need a trial period which could take a long time. 2021 doesn't mean that people should get a vaccine and continue to be careless, this is a delicate period for this sort of thing. It will likely be administered to elderly and medical workers first as WYE said. Medical personnel right now are exercising caution with a vaccine this early on. Bf told me his hospital won't allow them just yet till there's a trial period among the public.

California update: over 1,000,000 cases as of 1 December. State is under mandatory curfew till 21 December and may be extended past the holidays.
I think a post layout goes here somewhere...

Some vaccines were finally approved down here in Brazil, and the very first person to be vaccinated was a nurse.

That gives me a bit of hope for the foreseeable future. People outside of the risk group won't be vaccinated for a good while, though.

Looking at the world at broad, I think stuff won't get more stable until like early to mid 2022, and don't even know when it will fully return to normal, but probably even a few years later.

Not that I'm complaining, I don't want anything to be rushed. It's important to take time, it's mostly certain parts of governments and certain people that want to just reopen everything like normal and act as if there's no danger anymore just because they're worried about money. But... it shouldn't be like that, it's totally possible to keep things afloat just fine and still take the proper preventive measures.

Today the vaccine has reached my city, which was one of the first cities in Brazil to buy them.
