Recently finished Super Wakana Land, and I want to know if there are any more good hacks with new characters.
Well the most popular are Asmt and the Vip series.
Vip 345 are all great. Asmt can be a little patchy in difficulty but its fun.

+1 to the VIPs. Translated and fixed versions can be found here, though heads up for edgy anon humor.

I've also heard good things about Eevee's Sicari series.

There are a few in development that when released I will recommend.

Bruh. I wouldn't consider Super Wakana Land a good hack IMHO. Neither Sicari Remastered but for different reasons. Wakana Land's problem comes from the way it controls and the level design generally not teaching and testing the player in a way that eases the player into it and has some p obnoxious visuals with its HDMA that is most apparent with it's underground levels and the Sacrifice World ones.

Sicari Remastered is better in its design but I felt the levels generally didn't offer me much of a challenge nor expand on its gimmicks, something that Sicari 2 is rectifying as I have played its 2 demos released on here.

And lastly, what matters to me isn't the fact that there are original characters but whether or not the level design properly teaches and tests the player and is overall fun to play, and that is where I focus on more than anything else than the other aspects of a game. If it cant be fun for me and if the other aspects such as its theming, plot, aesthetics cant make up the level design, its automatically trash.

On Pixel Art Requests: I generally do not accept free work unless I either have the time, if I see your project worth my time to contribute towards, and that is usually me doing the approaching to you on that second part. I do not accept speculative work as I do have various art I made on-hand with me. I am more receptive to paid work and equivalent exchange of resources (trades) in which case, you can DM me wherever I have an active presence on for the details and we can work something out. If not, then don't DM unless absolutely necessary.

Alright, we all have our own opinions, but I found the play style and challenge to be a pleasant experience. Sure, things could be worked on, and there was some lewd content in it, but it's a solid hack nonetheless. I prefer these nonlinear experiences to the more... smb1 adventures.

With that said, thanks for recommending Sicari.

THe reason I'm looking for "new character" hacks is simply... Mario is fun, but it gets kinda boring after a while. The same art styles, the same blocks and power-ups. If a hack offers new characters, amazing asm abilities and stage gimmicks (like Kitiku Mario for instance) or a revamped sprites, I at least want to give it a try.

Heck, I'm trying to make STEAMED F**ING HAMS as a Mario hack! Really, my idea of what's "good" isn't what people normally go for. Thanks for taking your time to write this reply, and all opinions are welcome in my book.
Well, I'm working on several hacks with different characters and abilities. If you want to see what I'm working on, check out my Discord server.

Click the character on the right side of my layout to visit my Discord server and discuss and play and look at and get updates and sneak peeks of the games and other things I'm making.

So you believe that if a hack has an original character = not boring? The problem is, a lot of the time with SMW hacks that have original characters they still play by the rules of SMW by their very physics being similar to the base game and their level design ethos thereof. It's harder to find a SMW hack that stars an original character that plays nothing like SMW since that would require ASM experience.

Conversely, there are also SMW hacks that feature Mario characters but play up to the strengths of the characters' own gameplay such as Blind Devil's The Dark Side hack, yoshifanatic's Yoshi Strange Quest for Wario and Yoshi's physics, respectively.

Did you happen to skip the part where I said something about ASM and stage gimmicks? I'm here for new playstyles because Mario IS getting boring. I just tried out a couple hacks that were subpar because of the Mario physics thing.
bump
I know of a hack called Super Mario World - The After Years.
I've never played it to the end, but I remember finding it really fun.

Oh, so you want me to tell you about my recent crimes? Hm... I've downloaded a ROM for a game I don't physically own and pirated some music.
