Collectable monster series (games, anime etc) that aren't Pokémon.

Are there any mon series you especially like?

Tell us how you got introduced to them and why you like em. If you want. Not forcing you to, dawg.

Everyone who knows me well enough knows I like Digimon. I really like the designs for the most part, and the games do seem pretty interesting with how varied they are, even if some of them can be stinkers. As for how I got into it, I used to watch Canal Panda (literally Panda Channel), a kids network (now aimed more at toddlers due to the introduction of its Panda Biggs sister channel) in Portugal.

They got the emission rights of the portuguese dubs of Adventure, 02 and Tamers from TVI (Adventure) and SIC (the latter two), two other channels that previously aired them (I think TVI aired them in the afternoon and SIC in the mornings, both on weekends?).

Semi on a tangent, but SIC also did a dub of Adventure with less crap voice acting (but still kinda wooden as usual for non-Disney/Dreamworks/etc Portuguese dubs) that aired between the airings of TVI Adventure (1999) and SIC Adventure 02 (2001), though that one has been lost to the ether due to airing at 6 AM. I did find a video of its digivolution sequences' audio with video from the JP original on Youtube so maybe someone in the PT-PT anime fan sphere managed to get ahold of a few episodes?

But basically they were part of my elementary school life, 2003-2005, by 2006 I've began moving on from the channel, as I just felt Panda was getting too childish for me and Cartoon Network was starting to enter its dark age. I still tuned in for EEnE tho.

When Panda Biggs started going on one of its "launch shows" was Digimon Tamers and I was like "Oh I remember watching this! I think I'll check it out again."

I did still watch what I could of it, I even followed a Portuguese fansite of it run by like two 12yos??? I got the news that Frontier was going to air, and since I never watched that one, 6AM and only on SIC, I did my hardest to watch every single episode. I'm more relaxed on the anime now, but I still mean to watch the entirety of Savers, Xros Wars and Appmon sometime.

I did manage to watch some episodes of Xros Wars but it was based on the English dub which when you come off of a bunch of seasons that are based on the Japanese versions it just comes off as really bad? And as for Appmon, I just got lazy. tri. never really was released here but I did watch like the first two subbed "quartets" and I think I got to the one where Leomon bites the dust for the 69th time. After seeing the way the plot developed in future episodes, and the really lethargic release schedule I just dropped off. oops

that was a bunch of text

Outside of Digimon I'm interested in trying out Telefang, having run into it as Pokémon Diamond in the past, Yo-Kai Watch, I own YKW2, Bony Spirits I think? And Dragon Quest Monsters, I own DQM Joker 2, but I'd like to try out the other games as well, I personally am a bit of a DQ head so... Also Medarot/Medabots, I used to watch the anime as a kid and I would like to try out some of the games (they get super samey apparently so).

Bet really my big one growing up was monster rancher and the games were really interesting I remember playing it on PS1 and during gameplay you had to open the lid and put in a new CD to get different monsters.
Tbh, from what I remember, most of the shit I've watched outside of Pokemon that could be considered that was, like, Bakugan and Dinosaur King, neither of which really stuck out to me; those, along with stuff like Yu-Gi-Oh, Digimon, Inazuma Eleven and (of course) Pokemon aired a lot on this one open TV channel on Brazil tho (Rede TV; Globo aired some of those back in the day too, but I remember watching Sonic X more out of those, since it only aired on there from my experience), so I guess I still had some nostalgic moments thanks to that

sucks no one else here gives a shit about cartoons in open TV nowadays tho, but what can you do I suppose ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
