Decided to kick this one off with a bang, lol. You’d never know this was a Yasui arrangement!
2. Pepsiman - Stage 2 (Picked by Sinc-X)

Here’s a very easy one, but one I love nonetheless. I’d call it a “hidden gem”, but it’s not really all that hidden anymore. Doesn’t stop it being a solid track, though.
3. MadWorld - Body That (Picked by Sinc-X)
Guessed by 6 people.

Continuing the theme of picking from a wide variety of styles, here’s a rap one. I don’t care all that much for it as it’s quite generic, but I used to hear people mention this game a hell of a lot so I’m sure it suits the game quite well.
4. 3D Dot Game Heroes - Breakout (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by 2 people.
VIDEO
I actually learned about this song through Nameless. The game's OST is definitely a mixed bag, and there's tons of different styles in it, but this has got to be one of my favourite songs in it. It's a cute little happy thing that's still a bit emotional.

6. Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future - Title Screen (Picked by Sinc-X)
Guessed by Blue Leaf!
VIDEO
Wouldn’t be a VGM related contest without some Follin, right? Follin’s Ecco work is really immaculate, but I wanted to pick one with a bit of punch rather than one of the more ambient ones which could be harder to recognize (or maybe I’m wrong on that front, in which case, sorry!).
7. Brain Age 2 - Virus Buster (Chill) (Picked by bebn)
(Also accepted: Dr. Luigi - Chill)
Guessed by 9 people.
VIDEO
I actually had no idea this song was ported straight to Dr. Luigi. I thought I'd found another devious trick song that wasn't part of the Mario series, but you guys proved me wrong. As for the song itself, it's kind of calm; not my cup of tea exactly, but it fits right in Brain Age.
8. Super Mario 3D World - STM_BGM_TEST_BEATSYNC (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by snoruntpyro!
Audio Link
Yup, that's right! Unused music from a Mario game! Presumably used to test the beat blocks, there isn't really much to it, and it doesn't really sound like a SM3DW song either, but it's still kind of funny to listen to. Maybe it could one day find life as a Rhythm Heaven practice song. They should totally make a Mario x Rhythm Heaven stage where you control the beat blocks or something.
9. Pokemon Trozei - Secret Storage (Picked by Sinc-X)
Guessed by 2 people.
VIDEO
For some reason I used to really love this game, even though it’s absolutely nothing special and I hate these kind of mindless “puzzle” games nowadays. The soundtrack is definitely a strong point, which is no surprise at all considering it was worked on by the same guy as the likes of Colosseum and XD. The songs are so short, though...
10. Toram Online - Icule Lake (Picked by Sinc-X)
Guessed by Blue Leaf!
VIDEO
I discovered this soundtrack by accident a while back, and know absolutely nothing about the game other than it seems to be another generic MMORPG. This song has major soundTEMP vibes though, so whoever did the music definitely knew what they were doing.
11. Just Dance 4 - Menu Theme (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by 4 people. Series guessed by 1.
VIDEO
Dance... dance... Just Dance is pretty popular as far as I know, though certainly more of a casual video game. And with all the other music that's in the game, this is probably one of the more forgettable songs, but I still find it has its nice ambient charm. It's the best song to sit down and chill out to in your friend's basement after the intense workout that was running around the room to a Lady Gaga song.
12. Barbie: Super Model (SNES) - Roller Skating At The Beach (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by nobody.
VIDEO
This song reminds me of a Touhou song, weirdly enough (and it did for one of the guessers as well). I've never even so much as seen gameplay of this game; I only know about its existence through browsing Wikipedia while bored, but the OST holds up surprisingly well for a Barbie game, though I'd say this is my favourite one from it. I'd throw this in the category of obscure SNES songs that you'd find waiting in the SMW music section, and that's how you learn it exists. And maybe I'll just make it so :eyes:.
13. NBA Jam - Theme (Picked by Sinc-X)
Guessed by 4 people.

Absolute classic SNES banger. I don’t really have anything to say about it, though I’m still waiting for the next Barkleyfest...
14. *IMPOSTOR* - Megalomachia2 - Scarlet Rose (Picked by Sinc-X)
Guessed by 2 people.
VIDEO
I think a lot of people know SUPER-REFLEX from this album, but I’m not sure how many people have listened to the rest; this is easily my personal favorite, by the same guy who did 3D Dot Game Heroes. There’s just such a fantastic energy all the way through that I really admire.
15. Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask - Miracle Mask Theme (Picked by Sinc-X)
Guessed by 2 people.
VIDEO
More games I haven’t played!!! As good as Layton music is, I’ve never touched one of the games since they don’t really pique my interest. I certainly hope they keep on coming though so we can get more and more of this kind of gold.
16. Mickey's Speedway USA - San Francisco (Picked by Sinc-X)
Guessed by nobody.
VIDEO
I have no idea why this game exists, nor why it has such a great soundtrack. I recommend checking the rest out, there’s a decent selection of stuff there.
17. Lyle in Cube Sector - A Sad Touch (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by nobody.
VIDEO
Heidi #7 was the first song from this game I ever heard, through the SMW port of it, and while that song is still my favourite, I went through the OST, and there's some bangers in there, like this one. For a "sad" song, it sure gets you pumped up! Also, I have no clue what this game is actually about.
18. Eschatos - MASSIVE X (Picked by Sinc-X)
Guessed by 4 people.
VIDEO
It’s funny how Eschatos’ soundtrack has become so well known around these parts (presumably due to jumphalf). I can’t say it’s my favorite of Yasui’s works, but this and the other songs in the game are certainly still excellent.
19. Twinkle Star Sprites - Love Me (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by Sancles!
VIDEO
I'd only heard of this came by name when it was compared to Touhou, but I'd never checked out the OST. This is probably the best song from the game, alongside its stage 2 theme (which essentially gets the same treatment that Act 2 of Launch Base/Ice Cap/Flying Battery get). It has the crispy FM synthesis charm, despite a lot of the samples actually being sampled loops (notably the drum and piano). And finally, it's just that neat kind of emotional. I have a half-baked SMW port of this song, but getting that piano to sound right unsampled is a nightmare.
20. Kekkaishi: Karasumori Ayakashi Kidan - 烏森学園 (Picked by Sinc-X)
Guessed by nobody.
VIDEO
Yes, it’s another Yasui song right away. That’s like, reverse psychology or something, I think. I love this one because it’s wildly different from his usual style, delving into a territory I absolutely adore. The other songs in this obscure game are also great, but more typical Yasui, if that’s your thing.
21. Terranigma - Shopping (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by 2 people.
VIDEO
My favourite song from this game has to be Elle's Theme, but I thought I'd search through the OST and see what else there is. While most of the songs are incredibly dramatic and emotional, this one (alongisde a few others like Yomi) are super overly-happy outliers, so I figured they'd be perfect songs to pick since they don't represent the otherwise seemingly-somber tone of the game. I haven't played this game, so I don't know what to expect, but I'll probably add it to my list of games to check out. It's right at home with the other one-off SNES games.
22. Alcahest - General of the Empire (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by 10 people.
VIDEO
There's quite a few songs from this game that have become overused in SMW hacks, namely Panakeian Temple because of that one VLDC or JUMP level. On top of that, this game's composer is Jun Ishikawa, who's also one of the Kirby composers. And finally, the instruments are essentially the same as Kirby Super Star's. All these things together makes this song sound familiar no matter what angle you approach it from. General of the Empire is the perfect balance between Kirby-ness and SMW recognizability.
23. X-Scape - Tif Train Defense (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by Blue Leaf!
VIDEO
The one X and one X-Scape song in Smash had me wondering what the rest of their OSTs sounded like, so I did some digging. While a lot of X-Scape's OST is just generic, ambient-y techno, there's some neat songs in there too. Tif Train Defense in particular reminded me a lot of Lady Gaga-esque 2009 pop music, so I thought it'd be fun to include something in that vein. The other interesting thing is that Kazumi Totaka composed the music for this game, and a lot of it certainly doesn’t sound like his style.
24. Meitantei Conan: Karakuri Jiin Satsujin Jiken - Main Theme (Picked by Sinc-X)
Guessed by nobody.
VIDEO
I guess this series isn’t as popular as I thought it was I wasn’t necessarily expecting any exact guesses, but I had thought at least someone would recognize this iconic theme and get a series guess. Maybe my perception is skewed because this is the only anime I actually watch haha
25. Nintendo Countdown Calendar - Main Theme (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by nobody.
VIDEO
I have a distinct memory of impulsively buying this glorified calendar for my 3DS one December when I was Young. I don't know why I wanted it, and I probably used it for like 5 seconds before forgetting about it. Still, the game has a certain charm to it. There were a ton of cute sprites you could set for each day. Now I wonder if rips of these sprites exist online somewhere.

27. BS-X: Sore wa Namae o Nusumareta Machi no Monogatari - Sample Song 6 (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by nobody.
VIDEO
Nope, this isn't the composter! I have a certain love for the Satellaview, and I wish it'd get more recognition in modern Nintendo stuff (hell, Satebo and Parabo should be in Smash). This song is from the hub of the Satellaview. When I was going through the OST, I heard this song with its flagrant @17 and @9 usage and knew that I had to pick it to trip people up! That aside, the OST for it is a nice example of the sort-of-crappy SMW instruments being used really well, and blended with some higher-quality samples, which is sort of simultaneously novel and nostalgic.
28. NES Open Tournament Golf - Menu Theme (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by nobody.
VIDEO
I picked this song near the end of our selection process, since I wanted a song that sounds very much like a generic NES song, to the point where it'd be pretty familiar for everyone. The song itself is pretty short, fitting for a menu theme, yet it doesn't get stale quickly, which I guess is part of that NES charm.
29. River City Ransom (NES) - Menu & Shop (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by SomeGuy712x!
VIDEO
I had no clue this game existed until I played it via Nintendo Switch Online with a friend. It's surprisingly fun and satisfying to play, and pretty intricate for a NES game. This game's OST is pretty varied in terms of the NES vibe it gives off; one song sounds like Mega Man, another like something Konami-esque, and another like Zelda. However, when I heard the shop theme in-game, I knew that it was one of my favourites, which is why I picked it. Plus the memories of just staying on the shop screen and debating about how we're going to be spending our money were funny.
30. Hyper Duel (Saturn) - Cosmo Babylon (Picked by Sinc-X)
Guessed by 4 people.
VIDEO
After the mean Cosmo Babylon selection from last contest, I just had to include another remix of it, just to toy with your minds. I did end up deciding to accept just “Hyper Duel” as an answer though, I couldn’t bring myself to be THAT mean ;D
31. Fortress 2 Blue - There's Something About Supertank (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by snoruntpyro!
VIDEO
Like most people, I probably only know about this song because of the Be Higher port on the site. Now, that song is too recognizable, so I looked through the OST for something else. This game's OST makes really good use of the generic crappy MIDI instruments and actually manages to give them a full sound, which is neat to hear.
32. Tempest X3 - Ultra Yak (Picked by Sinc-X)
Guessed by nobody, series guessed by 1.
VIDEO
On the contrary from Hyper Duel, I decided to be mean with this one This specific version of Ultra Yak is from the arrange soundtrack of Tempest 2000, not the original game. However, the arrange soundtrack was used in the remake Tempest X3. sorry not sorry lmfaoooooooo
33. Bike Rider DX3 - Stage 7 (Picked by Sinc-X)
Guessed by KevinM!

I have zero recollection of how I found this song, but it’s so out there I can’t help but love it. I apologize for not finding a video with a less awful image.
34. Sonic The Hedgehog: After the Sequel - Combat Night (ATS Version) - For Parhelion Peak Act 1 (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by 6 people.
VIDEO
Panasonic Blu-Ray, 99$. The hhgregg remix is apparently the first thing a lot of people hear through this song, and in a sense, it's like you can't unhear the lyrics once you hear the infamous SiIva rip of this song. Memes aside, this song is super funky, and the intro gets me dancing every time. While whatever I played of After the Sequel's level design left a bit to be desired, the OST holds up really well. I'd recommend playing the game, even if just for the music.
35. Guxt - Stage 3 (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by nobody.
VIDEO
Once again, a song based on a port I moderated. This song is made by the same composer as Cave Story, hence the familiar chiptune-y sound. Surprisingly, the OST feels a bit underwhelming, compared to Cave Story at least. It's not bad, but a lot of the songs sound kind of same-y.
36. Mighty Switch Force - Jive Bot (Picked by Sinc-X)
Guessed by 2 people.
VIDEO
Revenge of MSF… I thought maybe people just only knew the original and didn’t know the sequel, but I guess these soundtracks aren’t as well known as I had thought, even though they’re infinitely better than stuff like Shovel Knight. I had this one as my alarm tone for a while since these soundtracks are so very energetic.
37. Battletoads (Amiga CD32) - Rat Race (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by fsvgm777!
VIDEO
I first heard this song through a port while watching gameplay of some Kaizo hack. There's also a NES version of this game. Both the NES version and the port do this song much more justice than the Amiga version, which makes it sound so... slippery, for lack of a better term.
38. Ottifanten: Kommando Stoertebeker - Die Vorstadt (Picked by Sinc-X)
Guessed by ? people.
VIDEO
Anyone who truly knows Game Boy music knows that Stello Doussis was basically the god of the GB sound hardware (at the time, anyway). He’s basically Alberto Jose Gonzalez on steroids, and this is one of his peak songs, with absolutely masterful texture and arrangement. I imagine it must be incredibly unfitting in a game featuring an elephant in a diaper, though.
39. Live-a-Live - Megalomania (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by 16 people.
VIDEO
I originally wanted to pick Under the Fake, since I instantly fell in love with that song when I heard it in entry #5 of the 2019 overworld design contest, but when going through old VGM guessing contests, I saw that Under the Fake had already been picked ages ago, so it turned into "let's just make this a gimme". Did you know both of the "Live"s in the game's name are read like the “live” in alive ?
40. Jam With The Band - F-Zero Medley (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by 0 people.
VIDEO
Everybody (incorrectly) guessed this as F-Zero, but nope, it's from Jam with the Band. The songs in this game fall into two categories: things you've never heard (except PERFORMANCE, which is in Smash), and Nintendo medleys. This song actually has a second part that transitions into Big Blue, it's a shame the snippet time wasn't long enough to include it. The slow tempo feels so un-F-Zero-like.
41. Chronos - Title (Picked by Sinc-X)
Guessed by 2 people.
VIDEO
I figured I’d include some less obvious Follin, since this is really where he started getting his groove, well before the NES. Of course, since it’s a ZX song it naturally sounds like absolute ass, but it’s very impressive considering the hardware.
42. Uwabami Breakers - Chase the Twilight (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by Blue Leaf!
VIDEO
A Drunkard's Lemuria would've been an easy "oh this is Touhou"-but-actually-not pick, but this song instead has that ambiguously FM-synthesis-y sound, combined with an excited energy, which makes it sound more like what Sonic 5 on the Genesis/Megadrive's answer to a casino level would sound like. Fitting now that I’ve fallen into the rabbit hole of Sonic games. I want to say it's a shame that it's so short, but in a sense, it just leaves you wanting more and more, so you replay the song over and over again, and jam to it each time.
43. Tetris DS - Starman (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by 8 people.
VIDEO
Starman music is Starman music, but it's even better when it's from a completely non-Mario game!
44. JAZZPUNK - Super Fighting Street Too (Picked by Sinc-X)
Guessed by nobody.
VIDEO
If you’ve never heard of JAZZPUNK, I strongly advise playing it or even just watching someone play it. It’s completely absurd, abstract and hilarious in the best ways, and is full of parody like this. This song is an obvious ripoff of Guile’s theme, so I of course had to include it to throw people off.
45. Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory II - Will Be Venus (Picked by Sinc-X)
Guessed by Sancles!
VIDEO
This is music. I don’t know anything about this, I just happened to stumble on it at some point. It’s pretty decent.
46. Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures - Sound Test (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by nobody.

I only know about this game because of the sounds Pac-Man makes in Sonic Robo Blast 2 Kart. And this song has that perfectly-rubbery Pac-Man sound.
47. Side Pocket 2 - The Strut (Picked by Nameless)

48. Arthur: Ready to Race! - Jukebox Track 9 (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by nobody.
VIDEO
I was wondering what Arthur video games are like, and I found this as my answer. This song goes hard for an edutainment game. That bass has the perfect amount of crisp, and the steel drum usage adds to the energy. I imagine it plays like Discount Mario Kart.
49. Ar Tonelico Qoga: Knell of Ar Ciel - With Everyone Again Today (Picked by Sinc-X)
Guessed by K.T.B.!
VIDEO
Gotcha, it’s not Atelier! I don’t think that actually got anyone since this isn’t really an obvious Gust song. Blah blah music words.
50. Super Picross 4 - Zelda Theme (Picked by bebn)
…..
Just kidding, ha.
50. The Legend of Zelda - Overworld
Guessed by everyone! (17)

Glad to see everybody got this one. After the deluge of insanely difficult picks and stuff that’s too obvious to be the correct answer, (looking at 27, 35, 40, 43, 54, 61, 95, and so on), I figured I’d pick something so ridiculously obvious that it would destabilize people. And it looks like it did. Though I’m glad everybody still submitted their guess for it anyway.
51. Under Defeat - Can’t Come Back? (Picked by Sinc-X)

52. Contra 4 - Jungle (Picked by Sinc-X)

Apparently an easier virt song, though I suppose that’s because it’s Contra. And also a remix that’s existed since the early 2000s.
53. Pop'n Music 15 ADVENTURE - CELTIC WIND 「Caring Dance」 (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by 2 people.
VIDEO
I discovered Pop'n through a certain Sonic Robo Blast 2 Kart track's music, and I was originally going to pick that one, but I figured there's already too much SRB2 Kart music in here, since Scarlet Rose plays on a track as well. So I branched out and found this. 猫又Master's songs are wonderful, and they give so much livelihood to the Pop'n games. Though I've yet to play one, half because I don't have the required consoles/controllers/etc., and half because it just looks so difficult.
54. PiCTOBiTS - Super Mario Bros. (Part 3) (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by nobody.
VIDEO
It’s moderately obvious that this is the underwater theme from SMB1, but mangled in some form. This game’s music is very much in a strange category, since the intent is for it to build up as you play, so it doesn’t have the same effect if you listen to it on its own. That being said, there’s some neat arranging going on the further you get in the song, so it’s really worth the buildup. This game also gets insanely difficult in the later stages.
55. Rhythm Heaven Fever - Manzai Birds (Instrumental) (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by 2 people, series guessed by 1.
VIDEO
I love my Rhythm Heaven dearly, and so I picked this song because this particular game was never localized in any region other than Japan, giving us the boring Mr. Upbeat instead. It’s such a shame too, because this game has so much personality. The whole game revolves around one bird making a pun, and the other one responding with “Yes! Yes!”. But sometimes, バイーン!どないやねん!
56. Action 52 - Cheetahmen Theme / Cat Mario - Theme (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by 16 people.
VIDEO
This was supposed to be the Syobon Action theme (better known as Cat Mario), but then I realized that the real origins of this song are from the Cheetahmen, so that’s the Legal source of this song. But I feel like this song is more iconic for our dear Syobon.
57. TimeSplitters 2 - Retro Racer (Picked by Sinc-X)

More games I have never played, though I know this one’s music since it’s by Graeme Norgate of Killer Instinct fame. I intentionally picked a song that sounded pre-PS2 because god I just love toying with you
58. Captain Rainbow - Title (Instrumental) (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by Meirdent!
VIDEO
I knew about this game through random online surfing when I was younger, and because of Smash. It looks very… dark for a game that has so many Nintendo characters in it. I guess I picked this song because the intro sounds somewhat familiar.
59. Persona 2: Innocent Sin (PSP) - Time Castle (Picked by Sinc-X)
Guessed by 3 people, series guessed by 1.

Shocker, another game I…. have never played !!! Actually I’ve never played any Persona game. (preparing for the lynch mob) I definitely respect their music though, as like jsut about any Atlus game they’ve got lots to write home about.
60. Magic Ball 2 - Level Background Theme 2 (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by nobody.
VIDEO
Brick-breaker games are somewhat of a recurring thing in my family, and I remember playing this at a family-friend’s house during a party, way back in the day, alongside the likes of Mario Forever. I love the marimba in this song since there’s just something so crisp about it.
61. Sonic Tetris - Marble Zone (Picked by Sinc-X)
Guessed by 2 people, series guessed by 13.
VIDEO
Heh, got a lot of people with this one. No, I did not make a remix of Marble Zone for the composter, though that may have been a better idea...
62. Panel de Pon/Tetris Attack - Lunar Stage (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by 8 people.
VIDEO
I was hoping this game would have two different soundtracks, but instead, I found this song, which I remember hearing in a SMW hack. It’s nice and calm, and despite being on the more somber side, this song makes me happy. I feel like most of this game’s soundtrack is songs that sound familiar even when you hear them for the first time.
63. Xenoblade Chronicles - Gaur Plains (Picked by Sinc-X)
Guessed by 9 people.

Yeah I picked this one as a gimme, had to have a few easy ones in so that people’s confidence levels weren’t completely zero!
64. WarioWare: Touched! - Rainbow Juice (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by Gloomy!
VIDEO
I originally wanted to pick Global Warning, which is Ashley's boss theme, since I hated that game as a kid. But after going through the OST and remembering this song exists, I fell in love with it all over again, and had to include it. For a WarioWare song, it definitely is much more emotional than the standard "haha nose-picking" fare. The game itself has you rubbing rainbow dust into a bucket. I always dreaded accidentally making the little guy trip. He was a sweet boy.
65. Kirby's Block Ball - Stage 2 (Picked by Sinc-X)
Guessed by 5 people, series guessed by 2.

I wanted to pick a Kirby song that was a bit more obscure, and this fit perfectly. Actually I like this song more than a fair few other Kirby songs, it’s super happy and cute but not too sweet.

Yeeeeeeeeeeeahhhhhhh I fucked up hard here. I have never watched the show and thus had no idea this song was just.. snatched from it. This was not intended as the impostor. *If you guessed “Cowboy Bebop” in any capacity, I gave you full points, but no impostor points were given. I’m a failure ;_;
68. Streets of Rage 2 - In The Bar (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by 6 people, series guessed by 1.
VIDEO
Nameless is the reason I know about this game in any shape or form. Admittedly, I find most of the songs in the series not to really be my style because of how rough and spooky the songs are (especially in Streets of Rage 3), but this is one of those that's stood out to me as being pretty pleasant to listen to. Plus it has that FM synthesis charm, so what's not to love?
69. Pokémon X and Y - Head It! (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by 3 people, series guessed by 2.
VIDEO
This one is obviously Pokémon, since those Gen V instruments are super recognizable... except it's actually the Gen VI games! The Pokémon-Amie minigames use the Gen V instruments for whatever reason, though they fit right in with the style, and I find it really charming. There's a lot of energy in the minigame songs, which gets you all pumped up to play them. Pokémon-Amie feels really underrated.
70. Camp Buddy - Spring Bunny (Picked by Sinc-X)

Maybe don’t look this one up if you don’t like anime boys and also don’t like dicks and also don’t want to see anime boy dicks. If that’s your thing then go for it though it’s decent
71. Sword of Mana - Endless Battlefield (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by 3 people.
VIDEO
This song popped into my head last summer, and I couldn’t figure out where it was from, until I went through my entire Japanese port folder and found a port of this song . I find that the range of SMW instruments there (notably @1, @13, and @4) actually give this song so much more charm than the compressed MIDI instruments of the GBA.
72. Pop'n TwinBee: Rainbow Bell Adventures - A Child's Fantasy Realm (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by 3 people.
VIDEO
I originally heard this song in Brutal Mario's Cheep Demo, in that one stage with the blue orb that destroys the walls. And now that I'm replaying that level, I realize how terrible that port is. It's wild how many songs I now like through old 2009-quality SMW ports that weren't great. In any case, this song is cute and happy, and it reminds me of the pastel aesthetic that level has. I have yet to play Twinbee, but I really want to.

Hooray for obscurity! Had to have some PC98 rep in the contest, though the snippet provided was not the FM version so it may have been harder to tell. Love this song since it’s so different from most of what you find on the system.

I originally wanted this to be the boss theme, since that’s probably the most iconic song from this game, but I thought it’d be a bit too obvious. So, I picked Village since it sounds more Kakariko-Village-esque, rather than dramatic-Lufia-music-like.

GOD yes. falcom is god and wataru ishibashi was the god of god ( rest in peace ). this is just one of many examples of their insane musical creativity and incredible harmony i am so sad they arent around anymore

this game looks like ass but this song is dope as hell. blasting this in the car is the way to success
80. Danmaku Unlimited 3 - Yesterday’s Tomorrow (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by nobody.
VIDEO
I genuinely have no memory of how or why I picked this song. I've also never played or heard of this game. I do remember going through this game's YouTube playlist and settling on this song as being the one I disliked the least. It has a very futuristic, dramatic sound to it, which isn't my taste at all, but I figure it's good to branch out. Maybe it'll grow on me.
81. Mushihimesama Futari - Cry! Scream!! (Picked by Sinc-X)

absolute classic. touhou really needs to learn that this is REAL bullet hell music. fuck. yeah. (dont hurt me bebn)
82. Pokémon Emerald - Battle Factory (Picked by Sinc-X)
Guessed by 6 people, series guessed by 2.
VIDEO
Clearly the best gen 3 song. It almost sounds like a parody of the rest of the soundtrack which I think is both hilarious and awesome and I really hope it was intentional because I love this so so much
83. *COMPOSTER* (“Picked” by Sinc-X)

I wonder if nobody got this because I disguised myself well or because it’s so bad that people assumed I was better than this
84. Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana - Sunshine Coastline (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by 2 people.
VIDEO
I found this game through YouTube’s recommendation algorithm while I was picking one of the other songs for this contest. I figured Ys was a fairy obscure series, but I’m seeing so much talk of it around the server and in other places, so I’m surprised. I still have no clue what the game’s about though. As for this song, it delivers on its title. It reminds me of upbeat-y Pokémon X/Y route music, though maybe just an echelon higher.
85. Style Savvy: Styling Star - Twinkle Fantasia (Instrumental) (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by Meirdent.
VIDEO
Holy crap, does the Style Savvy series have an amazing OST. All the songs are so happy and positive, and it’s just one of those feel-good OSTs. (Examples: 1 (EN /JP ), 2 ) The choice of instruments is glittery and happy, and I just absolutely love it. Twinkle Fantasia is probably one of the best songs in the series, and it has a version with lyrics too! It’s the perfect the song to jam out to at 2:00 a.m. while typing things on your computer. (The sheer amount of good music in the series makes me wish they got a Smash character.)

Wasn’t sure how well known coda was around these parts, but this is a great one to get you started if you’ve never heard his stuff before. Truly one of the gods of music.
88. Ragnarok Tactics - Phantom Fang (Picked by Sinc-X)

Not to be confused with Ragnarok Online, but the soundtrack still has plenty of gems, like this beautiful theme. I have nothing else to say lol
89. Bean Dreams - Fortune Fields (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by 2 people.
VIDEO
This is from an adorable little mobile game starring a jumping bean. I’ve had it on my phone since like 2012, yet I completely forgot about it until this song was queued up on the music bot in the voice chat. It’s such an upbeat song, and it gives a bit of a familiar VLDC vibe, which is why I picked it. It makes you excited to go on an adventure.
90. Bubble Bobble (Arcade) - Bonus/Invincibility (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by 4 people.
VIDEO
I sort of remembered this game exists after seeing a picture of the little character, but I realized I never heard this game’s OST. It’s sort of obnoxious and all over the place, but this song in particular is kind of jumpy, though probably annoying considering how short and repetitive it is. Though I suppose it fits its setting.
91. Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward - Biology (Picked by Sinc-X)
Guessed by 2 people.
VIDEO
The Zero Escape series has got to be the pinnacle of Shinji Hosoe’s videogame work. It has so much unique character that’s nearly impossible to find anywhere else. I should really actually play the games at some point, they’re sitting in my Steam library untouched…..
92. Sonic Battle - Emerl (Picked by Sinc-X)

the best sonic music is sonic music that doesnt sound like sonic music. i might appreciate sonic more if all the music was like this
93. Real Sound: Kaze no Regret - A New Nostalgia (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by 2 people.
VIDEO
I really don’t know anything about this game. I found it while on a Wikipedia reading spree about Sonic CD and other random Sega stuff. This game is pretty interesting though, since it’s designed to be just as accessible for blind players. It’s an audio choose-your-own-adventure novel of sorts.
94. Kirby Mass Attack - Invincible Candy (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by 2 people.
VIDEO
There isn’t much in the “obscure Kirby games” department, but Mass Attack feels somewhat forgettable, despite how fun of a game it was. This song felt like the perfect balance of not-too-Kirby-sounding yet also kind of familiar at the same time. The sample choices make it sound really video-game-y.
95. Castlevania (Amiga) - Vampire Killer (Picked by Sinc-X)

epic
96. Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair - Scareship Scroll (Picked by Sinc-X)
Guessed by nobody.
VIDEO
As much as I enjoyed this game, I was admittedly disappointed that only a handful of tracks were by Dave Wise and Grant Kirkhope, with the rest being done by some more unknown folks. Not that they did a bad job, but they’re no Wise. Luckily, this Wise track is incredible and makes up for all of it.
97. Ardy Lightfoot - Island of Ruins (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by 5 people.
VIDEO
I fell in love with this song the moment I heard it in that Call of Cthulu hack, and I always wondered if it was an original song made for that hack. It’s the perfect atmospheric track that still has a pace going. I can’t un-associate this song from the spooky imagery of that hack, like the twisted-up Koopas. I probably shouldn’t be listening to this at 2:20 a.m.
98. Super Bomberman 5 - Train Tower (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by ECS.98!
VIDEO
I originally wanted to pick Fight With Bad Bomber, but I didn’t want to pick something I’d moderated a port of 5 seconds ago, so I ran through the OST and picked this song instead. It’s definitely a song that goes all over the place, but in a good way.
99. Atelier Shallie - On the Calm Noon Sea (Picked by Sinc-X)
Guessed by 2 people.
VIDEO
And there’s the actual Atelier song. Couldn’t host a VGM contest without one now could I? Parts of this one remind me of modern Pokemon Mystery Dungeon music, and it all adds up to a really fantastic track that I’d be happy to listen to while doing literally anything.
100. Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon - Time to Part Ways (Picked by Sinc-X)
Guessed by Gloomy!
VIDEO
Speaking of modern Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, I present modern Pokemon Mystery Dungeon. I love this entry in the series even though it’s sort of controversial (?), the story is as dark as it’s ever gotten and it’s full of great plot twists. Of course, being a PMD game, it comes with its own set of “instant cry” songs, like this one. I hoped maybe it’d trigger that in someone, but I guess my plan failed.

E2. Shuusou Gyoku (Prototype) - Frontal Attack (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by nobody, series guessed by 1.
VGMusic "audio" link
Nobody actually knows how this song ends... or how it even really sounds like. In fact, the version in the VGM contest is a recreation of it by ShinkoNet Cavy (which you can find here ), since the original song only plays partway through in one video of the Shuusou Gyoku prototype with a ton of sound effects over it. The video only came out last year; before that, this song was an enigma whose name appeared in some prototype screenshot. Even if it's not complete, at least we now get to appreciate some of it. Though those SFX are quite loud... (If you guessed Touhou, you're not far off, since ZUN composed the music for this game.)
E3. Viper V-12 - Blue Flight (Picked by Sinc-X)

Definitely not Gradius.
E4. *IMPOSTOR* Touhou Kikaisen ~ Adventures in Inferno - Everlasting Hellish Dream (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by Blue Leaf! Series guessed by 3.
VIDEO
The "stage 2" theme from this obscure PC-98-style Touhou music album which features a whole group of Japanese Touhou-style composers. In a sense, this was supposed to be a gimme. The bassline, the FM synthesis, and everything sound incredibly Touhou, which is supposed to lure everyone into a false sense of security so that it doesn't cross their mind that this is an impostor. It's a really neat album overall though, and there's a lot of fast-paced songs, which I really love, of course helped by the fact that it's FM synthesis.
E5. Touhou Suishouguu ~ Crystallized Mythology - 黒と影の偽歴史 ~The Fake with High Quality (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by Blue Leaf! Series guessed by 1.
Video link.
Nothing to do with high-quality rips, don't worry. This is the theme created for Sasha Sashiromiya, a fanmade Touhou character that pops up in fan games from time to time. This theme in particular plays in the incredibly obscure fangame Crystallized Mythology. It's only 3 stages long and not particularly difficult, so it's fun to just play through it when you're bored, but not feeling committed to the full, 6-stage Touhou experience. It doesn't sound particularly Touhou-like until the trumpets kick in though.
E6. iCarly 2: iJoin The Click - MID_BGM_INDOORS1 (Picked by bebn)
Guessed by nobody.
No video.
Since iCarly is a bebn meme, I had to include a song from one of the many iCarly games that exist apparently. This game is so freaking obscure that I had to rip this song myself from the game through VGMTrans. While most of the OST isn't super memorable, this song in particular is kind of sweet, emotional, and home-y. For a quick Nickelodeon sellout DS game, there's at least a good song in there.
E7. Talking Words Factory (Leapster) - Title Screen (Picked by Sinc-X)
Guessed by nobody.
No video.
I had to pick the most extreme extreme song I could possibly think of. This goes beyond the realm of normal video game music. I don’t know how many people had Leapsters as a kid, but holy hell they are nostalgic and also there is like zero information about their games anywhere ever. I legitimately bought a Leapster off Ebay for the sole purpose of including an essentially impossible to guess song in the contest. And yes, I recorded the audio on my phone.
