Seriously, what you've got here this time has a truckload of potential for really tight and fun platforming. Really looking forward to seal more of this!

can you draw a seal with a tophat pls

Thanks a bunch. Seals are great.
Some of the most fun is testing out how the character plays but also wondering how skilled players can really push the seal to its limits. (in a healthy and loving way of course)

Seal Request Accepted. #smrpg{y}

This hack looks so simplistic it reminds me a ton of Ink but in SMW. I mean seriously, this game looks just an indie game!

Thanks. I'll take that as a compliment. I always like making my work not look at all like Mario except of course form the main form of traversing the levels been jumping. #smrpg{:D}

This actually looks pretty dope. Reminds me a lot of Celeste, yet also uses your own signature art style. Definitely like it!

Is it bad I have not even beat the first world in Celeste but love the music from the game? Cheers though. #smrpg{mlem}

Seal Puns get you fifty Seal Dollars which are not accepted in any country. But yeah thanks! #smrpg{:3}

I'm assuming that those are spikes in the graphics in the game. My thoughts are to make them really look like spikes. You need to really convey the message that they will hurt you and I'm on the fence to whether I can tell if they hurt you or not just by looking at the graphics.

I had a small chat with the Spikes and they have confirmed they'll hurt you in some manner if touched.
But seriously the Spikes will be changed to look a lot like something you would not chance at all to touch. Everything shown here is super early wip beta alpha omega quality. #smrpg{<3}

I'm not sure if you're really aiming for such simplistic aesthetics and if these are too bland for a full hack. I'm in love with what you've got nonetheless!

BTW, can you draw a seal pogging?

My aims are to keep the style simple but the levels will be more detailed from what the GIF's currently showcase.

I had to google "Pogging" but I think I know what you mean.
Blame for been a Young Boomer it seems. #smrpg{sick}

Thanks so much. Glad you like it. :O

Anyways I am super grateful for the comments so far.
I was trying to get a small Tech Demo out over the weekend but I am knackered from work so I don't wanna rush anything.

There might be one on Monday but the only promise for Monday is the Seal Requests.
That looks nice! The works on physics and the simple aesthetics are pleasant to me.

Since we're talking seals I may introduce Bojack Horseman's Neal McBeal the Navy Seal. Not sure how it will fare in 16x16, maybe there's room for the hat.

I have a Discord server as well! (by joining, you agree to the rules)

Basically, I believe in peace and bashing two bricks together.

I wish I had such creative ideas for asm. The idea is really cool. Sadly the gifs only show the seal hopping on some blocks. I wonder though how it will interact with sprites? But for controls and such things I better wait for your post-C3 tech-demo.
However this looks really promising and I hope you can keep your motivation up to finish this! #smrpg{y}

Those controls look super satisfying, and I LOVE the simple, clean aesthetic! Looks like there's a lot of potential for some tight, challening platforming. I can't wait to see the end result :O
There isn't much to say except that this looks great and has a lot of potential (basically what everyone else is saying). Keep up the good work, 1UPdudes!
Yoyo, its been a while! ^u^ I am happy to see you are working on another project, I am liking the look of it soo far. I love the seal's graphics/animations they are very stylistically simple but expressive, my favourite animation frame has to be the hanging on the wall frame as it looks like the little seal splat itself onto the wall which is pretty cute. Its always fun seeing you play with how the player controls the character and I can easily imagine how you could use the wallsticking concept to create fun unique gameplay ideas. While obviously I haven't tried it going by the gifs it also looks like it plays really well which is very good especially considering sometimes walljumping in mario world hack's can be a bit dodgy.

As for a seal design, maybe make a bell seal? that could be fun lol.
Nice title pun, hehe. This is absolutely adorable! I love the sleek and smooth aesthetic of the level, and I feel like it ties right in with the round and squishy seal aesthetic. Maybe it's the Layer 3 clouds as well.

The wall-stick gameplay feels like it would be deceptively complex; you'd think it's no big deal since it's just one move, but it completely changes how you'd go about the game!

As for the seal designs, what about a Porcu-puffer-inspired seal? One that's purple, angry, and spiky. It might be a bit tough to do in 16x16, but it's just an idea.

I cant believe you didnt call it sealeste but great job and I love the little seal fellow.
I know littereally everyone in this thread has been making comparisons but I can't not see Cat Planet in this.
That being said its a really nice visual style and I love the cute little seal sprite!
That and its paired with a fun cool gameplay gimmick.
Definitely will be playing in the future, hits all my marks for what I look for in a hack.
The hack looks really unique, wishing you good luck with your project!

Also, I would like to request a Bowser-styled seal with its characteristic palette, horns and (possibly) shell+spikes. Not sure how feasible is to do that on 16x16 though.

Thanks a lot. I remember that character so I'll do my best.

I want to keep sprite interaction simple as I want to keep the main focus on the platforming but we will see a lot of those mixing together to create some pretty technical and dynamic levels. Cheers. #smrpg{y}

Cheers. #smrpg{:D} I hope I don't disappoint you with what I'll be making in terms of tough levels!

It's always glad to see your around Miku. Hope you've been doing well with whatever you've been busy with. I am glad you are liking what I've shown so far. The wallstick pose took the longest time to make as I kept not been happy with the result. The wallkick is so much better than it was in my old Chomp hack that used a very clunky wallkick patch.

Request Noted. Thanks! #smrpg{<3}

The hardest part will be refining the player controls as I don't want any SMW-Jank to get in the way. Layer 2 is a bit odd but I'll see what myself and others think of it when they get a chance to play around with it more.

Your request sounds like a challenge but I'll accept it.
Cheers though! #smrpg{haha}

THIS USER WAS WARNED FOR THIS POST.

Sealeste is a pretty good pun which I might use in the hack.
I want all the level names to be puns but not just seal puns but definitely expect seal puns. Thanks as always my dude seeing as you always have liked the content I've made over the years.#smrpg{mlem}

I gotta say I am so happy and motivated by everyone and their kind words. Really its great. I can't thank you enough. <3
I did not feel too tired from work so I did the currently requested requests. Feel free to request more as they don't take too much time and are pretty fun to make.

EDIT: Just saw the new replies aaaaaaaaaaaah. I'll get onto any requests and proper replies later on or tomorrow. My mind is starting to.....z z z z z z z

Not in the slightest! Celeste is simply an amazing game all-around, and anything taking inspiration from it is doing at least one thing very right already, if you ask me.
Feel free to visit my website/blog - it's updated rarely, but it looks pretty cool!
draw a seal hanging out with aramaki scaltinof (the thwomp and dolphin sprite swap from vip)

How about making a ninja seal? They'll never seal it coming.

What is a Lunar Magic, and can I eat it?

OH i have one i have one, how about you do a Homer Simpson seal. After seein the last couple i thought it would be funni to see.
Thank you and have a nice day

This looks like its own indie game so far, if it weren't for the status bar and the SMW mist, I wouldn't recognize it as SMW at all. Looks fun so far though!
