I will have the lightning stop at solid blocks. Which blocks it can break (if any) can also be customized. The silius shooter fires custom sprites. I made this choice because it shoots 8 shots at once and there are exactly 8 extended sprite slots (since 2 are reserved for Mario fireballs). This made it so the salvo could very easily fail and that looked weird. It's much less likely that all sprite slots will be full, at least with SA-1.



Chasing hammer bro is on deck!



This is a really minor edit that makes the hammer bro chase Mario and jump over walls when the extra bit is set. Its normal jumps can still trigger, I don't know if that should be removed.

I don't remember how ROMI's sprite tool works, but if you have a ROMI version of the hammer bro I can make the same edit to that sprite that I made to this one.

Oh that is actually really good. I love those vanilla sprites with a twist, because they don't feel as shoehorned as custom sprite gimmicks usually tend to. I think those will come in handy for a level or two in my hack!

The horizontal version of the flying rope mechanism is cool enough, and the vertical version sounds like it would be cool too.

Will the vertical version be a separate cfg, or are you gonna use extra bytes here? Also, would it be a challenge to make a diagonal version of the sprite (if you don't get around to making a diagonal one, that's totally fine)? I'm really curious.
One step ahead of you folks! I added a vertical version as well as a diagonal one. The vertical version does exactly what you'd expect, but the diagonal one is a bit more complex. Its starting direction depends on both X and Y position, think of it as it moving away from the center of the nearest 2x2 block. It makes sense if you try it in the editor, I promise #smrpg{sick}

I made it use the second property byte, but if you want to use extension bytes instead that's no problem. If that's the case, simply search-replace !extra_prop_2 with whichever extension byte you want to use instead.

Also, please note how the amount of smoke coming out of the engine is proportional to how hard it's working! i.e. it pumps out extra smoke while accelerating, I thought that was really neat #smrpg{:D}

The SMM2 Mechakoopa is scarily accurate and wonderfully op! The other vanilla sprites with their twists are very well made judging from the gifs! That expandable grinder is scary as hell lol. That'd make for interesting level design, How do the floating ropes function? Can you set paths or is it only xx tiles vertical/horizontal?

I don't know, for some reason, simple edits to vanilla sprites are the best. Either way, I just realised that Checkerboard Platforms have a line-guided and a flying version so flying Rope Mechanism is just a logical expansion.

I am totally in agreement with imamelia here, IMO the flying rope mechanisms definitely should have wings on them, much like with the flying chainsaws (I simply find it weird that they don't have wings, but otherwise, they get my stamp of approval).

I'm not sure if I'm gonna use the Grinder sprite, though I have to admit it looks quite interesting.

As for the chasing Hammer Brother, wow, that one definitely looks more dangerous than the ones I remember from Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels; I'm especially surprised it can jump over walls in its way to reach Mario. Methinks I might use it in a level or two in the 8th world of my hack.
