After years of hiatus I decided to start working on Toad's World 2 in this Covid-19 situation because I wasn't able to do anything during lockdown. So yeah, I've ripped all graphics needed so far and my plans are to add more effects, gimmicks as well as new sprites, of course.
Probably will get some DS styled sprites to fit the overall theme of this hack.
Also, my HDMA 3.5 (available here) has got a complete revamp and is now even better and once last playtests have been confirmed working properly I will release it as well.
But back to the hack. Have some screenshots of graphics (and some effects) I have done so far.
Overworld (Not done yet!):
Nintendo Presents (Now Ice Man Presents):
Title Screen (may add some stuff to it):
World 5 (Looks bland but it will change!):
A release won't be anytime soon but I will try my best to release it as fast as possible depending on my time.
Posting posts around at the speed of sound. Holy crap, Ice Man, I didn't even know you were still alive!
I don't actually remember much of the first Toad's World, but I think I've played a few levels from it? Not quite sure. I like the overworld shown here. It's pretty colorful and overall nice to look at. Maybe a tad blocky, but that's not a huge problem. Also an "SNES world"? Seems interesting, although I'm guessing that is just this hack's special world?
As for the levels, I gotta admit I was never really into that NSMB pseudo-3D art style. I prefer good, old 2D pixel art. That being said, I think it's kinda impressive how well the graphics translate into the 256 color palette that's available in SMW. Like, I'd totally expect there to be more compromises, but everything seems to work out pretty well. Not much to comment on here besides the graphics, though. Would be cool to see a bit of level design (enemy placements, level gimmicks etc.).
The visuals are really impressive already, so good job with that!
I played a fair bit of the original and it is still quite well made for an old hack, so I'm quite interested in seeing your new takes on level design.
Wow That Great News to See a New Hack The Overworlds Are Looking realy Interresting Explicite The Purple one has something Mysticaland Special i Find im Already Courios what will me Await on this Adventure so Good Luck and Much Effort
Is this even SMW anymore?
Wow, these graphics are really impressive! I gotta say while i was scrolling through the screenshots i had to go back just to confirm it was actually a SMW hack!
You've done an incredible job with these pseudo-3D graphics!
I can't really tell much about the gameplay just from these screenshots, but i'll definitely be looking forward to the completion of this project!
The overworld design is superb. To be honest, I'm not fan of this NSMB Aesthetic on the levels, tho, I mean, it's not bad, it just doesn't click with me, for some reason. With that said, good luck with this one, I see that you put a lot of effort in this hack. Also a minor nitpick, but I find odd the Castlevania graphics and NSMB when side by side, but well, nothing that compromises the hack. It's looking very good so far.
Ooh, this is getting me nostalgic to like 2008 when I'd watch videos of the original Toad's World. I'm glad to see there's a sequel in the works! I think this is one of the few hacks where I really enjoy the NSMB aesthetic due to how consistently present it is.
This is looking super neat so far, and stuff like the subtle layer 3 touches really makes it even better! I can't wait to see where this goes.
The style and theming of the graphics here is good. The game has changed to a point you almost couldn't tell it was a SMW hack. The title screen and others look well done. Love the OW and some of the levels here.
