I noticed that
Piranhas still jump out even if you're standing on top of their pipes
in my level, unless I import it into a vanilla rom. Possible baserom bug? Or maybe some super-obscure behavior I'm not aware of
Oh god, that was a bug in VLDC11 too but we never investigated the cause. I forgot to look into it before this contest. Going to make note of it right now. For now, it's just a bug we'll have to live with again because I'd really prefer not to have to update the base rom once more.
Can I use message boxes and texts for VLDC12?

Actually, I'd say there's a lot of entries already. But don't worry. The majority of entries are usually submitted in the final week of the contest.

Yes. I had already guessed. I hope the idea for VLDC12 collaboration will be finalized. I am hopeful of many things for this contest.

Can we edit Mario's graphics? (replace with vanilla graphics ofc)

Can we use japanese SMW graphics? (or it doesn't count because its not in the baserom?)
What if we patch the baserom on a Japanese copy? (if it's even possible)
I suppose you can try to edit mario's graphics, but just note that if we make a compilation there's no guarantee your edits will be carried over due to the global nature of his graphics.
I doubt the base rom will even work on a japanese rom, and also japanese-exclusive graphics aren't usable because they're not in the base rom.
Shoot changing Mario's GFX was the main idea of my level. Maybe I'll still go with it...

And yes doesn't work on a JP ROM darn I wanted my katakana. I means it's possible to patch it if using a ips patch and to open with LM but it's slightly glitchy.

Talking about that, and sorry about my stupid questions, but can we use graphics from GFX27?
GFX27 is the GFX file that is super glitchy and probably not originally graphics, but it's a GFX file so...
Isn't that file supposed to be Mode7 graphics or something like that? I recall there being some way to open it correctly. I'd say you shouldn't use it in the glitchy form, but if you can open it normally and actually see the intended graphics, then yes.
A yes probably mode 7 like Reznor background. Yeah could be cool to use those graphics, but I have no idea how to actually open it. Oh well.

Edit: You can open GFX27 with Graphic Editor (not yy-chr). Good to know.



I'll just make a "normal" level. I have some ideas for a "normal" level now.
Is there a p-switch fix already applied to the game? I want to take advantage of the effect of taking a silver P-switch through the pipes to make it act like a blue one but it is not working.

I had a look at that tutorial and while it's a lot more complicated than the usual palette exanimation I'm familiar with, it is still just an advanced form of palette exanimation that looks possible even without the ExGFX used as an example, so the answer is Yes, since the ExGFX there is just making something easier in that process.

This is very disappointing. Hopefully in future contest this patch won't be applied because it comes across as excessive and restrictive. I'm very sure you know these are the types of things that help with the creativity of vanilla levels so for it be patched out is very frustrating. It makes me wonder if it was targeted specifically or if it was a casualty of the functionality of another patch since there are other unintentional functions left in the game that we're not patched.

I could agree if the p-switch switched colors, but it doesn't so it ends up being a glitch that not so many people know.
I used it in a small glitch puzzle and I found out a lot of people had no idea that existed. I wouldn't use it in a vanilla non-kaizo contest.

You must only use what's given in the original game and the base ROM. Yes, you can use either the *96 or infinity (which is mentioned in the rules thread) as well.
